A few years ago my dad asked me for some tech help with his PC. I told him to call geeks on call. He hasn't asked me since.
I don't have any real experience with malware as I am pretty defensive on my computer and apparently pretty lucky so I wouldn't have much idea what to do anyway.

I was able to make mine super moist by simply stuffing in 3 large chunks of butter into the cavity and coating the entire bird with more butter and some oil.Z-Corn wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 4:20 pmAnd I agree with this. When I was agreeing before it was to the "Start high temp and then drop down" method. Crisp skin should be the goal.hentzau wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 4:16 pmAs I understand it, it's less about the juices and more about getting the skin crisp and making sure the dark meat gets done. If my memories of Alton are correct.Z-Corn wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 3:27 pmI do agree. Searing adds deliciousness, but doesn't actually stop any moisture from leaving.
You posted this as I was finding this video where Alton proves it:
https://www.foodnetwork.com/videos/to-s ... sear-98517
, but still - you start high, then go low.... period.
(and I do believe it keeps juices in the bird)
If you want to keep moisture in the bird a brine is best.

The answer is that he wants to be able to play his vinyl albums on a record player in their basement but hear them in the living room. He is pretty awesome, I'll admit. I was using shorthand, though - I don't actually stick a can up like a barbarian. I have a nice apparatus that Weber makes that sits the bird up nicely. I do use a bit of dark beer and some BBQ sauce. I've probably done at least a hundred whole chickens, some with and some without (as I only have 1 device and Costco sells 2 bird packs). I've done blind taste tests and my wife can pick out which chicken is which with about 80% accuracy.Z-Corn wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 5:49 pmThat's another myth that has been busted.

They are about $20-40 depending on what kind of connections you want and what kind of fidelity you want (AptX low-latency, or not)
This brand is usually pretty good: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5KKUR0
It's meant for a TV, but if you put a USB power adapter near the phono player you should get it to work fine. Not sure what sort of audio output your phono player has though.

Re: Random randomness
Got a new delivery van today, a brand spanking new Ford Transit 250 cargo van (200 miles on the odo) Strangely, there's a handle to pull oneself in on the passenger side... But NOT on the driver side. Apparently, we're supposed to use the steering wheel?
Got the "heel protector" from Amazon. Turns out it's a set of 3 pairs of silicone "gel pad" that you wear instead of a shoe insole. Made the sole feel squishy, but it seems to help with the cushioning.
I got in two sets of insoles, and a new pair of shoes... I went cheap on the shoes, just to see if it's any good. When the next check comes in I may splurge on a really good pair. I should have more than one pair of shoes anyway. And I want to swap insoles when possible.
Right now, my knees hurt when I need to get in and out of the vehicle. Getting into driver's seat is not difficult... I just have to learn a new way to do it. WIth my "old" van I rely on the roof and the handle. This new van has no "edge" on the roof I can hold, nor a handle, so I have to use the door as my lever. Getting into the cargo portion is the biggest problem, but I have a solution... I ordered a "manhole cover puller" from Amazon, and it seems the be the perfect tool for pulling boxes to me without jumping in the van myself. Guess we'll see about that tomorrow when I put it to the test.

Bluetooth might not make it from a basement to a living room clearly if it has to go up a stairwell and around corners to get there. How much money can you throw at the problem? Assuming they have WiFi, a Sonos WiFi solution could get the job done.Smoove_B wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 3:57 pm I think I need to start a [Dads] thread to keep track of these great stories. Although for that much money, I'd lobby for just buying them a second record player for the living room. I don't think I'd want my beloved 72 year old family member going down and up the basement stairs every 22 minutes to flip a record.

I've purchased a couple of these for my wife over the years - and she loves them. She's got music playing through the house 16 hours a day that she controls with her phone, and with speakers placed in the rooms where she works and spends most of her time, the music follows her.

Re: Random randomness
According to my dad, my mother has stated that no A/V equipment will be placed in their living room. I guess after nearly 50 years of marriage, weird battle lines start to emerge. He wants the ability to play music when they entertain, so having a wireless/portable speaker was his solution.
He also asked me if Alexa would play him music, and I indicated that it would. The idea of him yelling out, "Play Johnny Mathis!" amuses me, so maybe I'll go that route as well. He's not an audiophile by any means so this might be a better option. Though I don't know how he feels about paying for a music subscription and a live microphone.

Knee brace was the first thing I bought. TWO of them, in fact, "just in case". They also make for good cushion if I have to crawl on the floor reaching for the rest of the boxes.

Where are you ordering from?
When I do an Amazon purchase, replacements typically involve getting a new product from them and 30 days to return the broken one - and they provide me the shipping label, so I print that off, tape it on, and send it out. $0 cost.

If you're able to keep the total weight under 1 lb, you should be able to keep the price down by using First Class mail. But anything over 1 lb requires Priority Mail unless you're able to ship your item via Media Mail.Daehawk wrote: ↑Thu Aug 16, 2018 1:34 pm Whats the cheapest way to ship an item at the post office and still get a tracking number? If it's under 1 lb it can go First Class Package for $4-5. Delivery Confirmation is an additional 50 cents or so (free if you print the label online, but click-n-ship doesn't sell first class postage). A mouse would have probably fit in a priority Small Flat Rate Box for $7.40 including confirmation, unless you sent it back in retail packaging.Daehawk wrote: ↑Thu Aug 16, 2018 1:34 pm Whats the cheapest way to ship an item at the post office and still get a tracking number? I have fallen in love with Kikkoman traditional brewed soy sauce. Once you have it you can never ever go back to chemically created soy such as La Choy. No way no how. Kikkiman is king. Salty and savory. My favorite way to enjoy it is a spoon of creamy chicken salad and fill the rest of the spoon up with Kikkoman. Great flavor combo.

Ok the Krystal with pimento cheese bite. No..just no. I love pimento cheese and Krystals are my favorite hamburger. But together as they make them they do not work..at all.
Ok first. Krystals are small square slider burgers. Imagine White Castle in the south. They are a bun, 1 beef patty, steamed/fried onions, a pickle and mustard. In the pimento cheese one they change the mustard to mayo and stick on a deep fried pimento cheese bite. They are bad. Heres suggestions for for fixing them because separate they are both great.
First dont change the mustard to mayo. Keep it mustard. Then dont use a cheese bite. I know its for simplicity but instead use the pimento as a spread. I think it would be much better. A last choice and maybe the best is to leave off the beef patty and just make it a pimento slider.

Re: Random randomness
Got an Echo Dot today so the kids could listen to their endless "Kids Bop" songs in basement without bothering me. Weird thing is, nearly all of the songs they love that my Echo plays without any issues, the Dot says "this song requires an Amazon Music Unlimited Plan to access. Would you like to sign up?"
Seems really weird to me that songs would play fine on one device, but not another when everything is connected to the same account and network. Anyone else run into this? Amazon's tech support site is remarkably unhelpful.
