First a small interview with Dave. The guy is the most down to Earth rock star Ive ever seen. Also a nice guy. And I learned something....the 1st Foo Fighters album was simply all him..no band yet it seems.



This one is Nirvana performing at the 1992 MTV Music Awards and also winning. Included are some interviews. LOL look at Dave there. He is 23 same as me. Notice Kurt wanted to play Rape Me but MTV wouldn't allow it so he trolls them by starting Rape Me before switching to Lithium Dave is an animal on drums.

I never liked gin until I tried a gin and tonic with lime. Now G&T is my favorite adult beverage.

As I was really learning to get my drink on at university, my buddy and I decided a bottle of gin, vermouth and olives would be a great way to expand our drinking habits. I'm fairly sure there was a childish desire to appear more grown up as well. Maybe.

I couldn't even finish my first martini. And that was the last time I've even attempted to drink gin.

My palate is not sophisticated, and this is just one example of it.

There was only a handful of normal alcohols I hadn't tried. Among them were saki and gin. So I grabbed a bottle of Beefeater Gin. It was the most horrid nasty tasting drink I ever put in my mouth. It was right then I knew it was for mixing only but I couldn't take it. Was my first and last Gin ever and it shall stay that way.

My wife's aunt is married to a Japanese man. In a strange bit of coincidence, I went to high school with my wife's cousins, the 1/2 Japanese son and daughter of my wife's aunt and husband. We weren't friends, but we knew each other and spoke to each other socially. I did not meet my future wife until years later.

It wasn't until I went to dinner at my future wife's parents' house that I tried my first saki. I am no expert, and my parents in law don't strike me as particularly worldly or knowledgeable, but given that my wife's aunt lived in Japan with a man who had been raised there with presumably genuine Japanese culture, I believed that my in-laws knew what they were doing when they chose the wine. It was heated and served hot. There was a lot of it.

It kicked like a mule and it was awesome. I don't drink much any more, but my mother in law was an amazing cook and my father in law enjoyed drinking and entertaining, and whenever we went to dinner at their home it was an experience. Saki was part of it. And it was good.

Berkshire Mountain DIstillers makes a line of gins called Greylock that are distinguished by various infusions and different barrel aging, but all share one attribute: a clear, fresh, distinct juniper flavor. I never cared for gin until I had Greylock. It's still not something that will ever be my fave, but I occasionally enjoy sipping a shot of their plain gin straight up. If you ever have an opportunity to try it, it will change your opinion of gin...unless you hate juniper, in which case why are you even drinking gin?

I learned that I hated gin when my friend and I were on a Concert Caravan in 1987 to Cobo Hall to see Grateful Dead.

He brought a fifth of cheap gin, it's nickname in the types of places you could buy it was, "Bumpyface".

We pounded the whole bottle straight, passing it back and forth, within the first 60 miles of the trip. By the time we got to the concert my friend was completely passed out and I had to drag him to our seats and babysit him through the whole show. Not that out of the ordinary at a Dead show...

I remember the house lights coming up and being really happy the show was over. I was NOT enjoying myself at all. It's no fun babysitting someone that drunk and the music sucked. My friend was so far gone we couldn't score any acid, nobody would talk to us and I didn't want to just leave him somewhere. Then I was informed it was just intermission, that show was only half over. FUCK!

The best part of the show was when he came around enough that we could get a Little Caesars pizza and wait for the bus to take us home.

I'm an adult now and I've learned how to drink gin but I still think The Dead suck.
