Somebody needs to check in with Rivers. I'm not sure if he's doing ok. Video takes an unexpected turn.

Recently stumbled upon The Dead South. Started with them this morning, and then have been randomly checking the recommendations that appear next.

Blah, blah, blah.
I tend to not pay much attention to this thread because I've found that my taste in music doesn't intersect with the forum's general tastes very often.

It really sucks that Morrissey has emerged as everybody's racist Facebook uncle, because his cover of The Pretenders is actually pretty good.

Im still waiting on new stuff this year. If I listen to old stuff out when my wife was ok I get sad. If I listen to bands from then sad....anything like that. So Im waiting on new bands and new music. Ive not been able to listen to anything....or do about anything but thats a different story.
So new bands new music..bring them on.

I've had Wachenfeldt's "The Interpreter" album on repeat for the last few days. They're a fascinating band, with the lead guy (Thomas von Wachenfeldt) having a PhD in Music and researching "musicology" as a professor at a Swedish university. He's actually released a number of folk and classical albums under his own name, while playing with Wombbath and Entombed. He finally decided to give symphonic black metal a try, and the results are outstanding. It's a truly fantastic album with amazing musicianship.

I have tears in my eyes but a smile on my face remembering my little love doing that during this video.

Endearingly silly video. Such a catchy song. I wonder if you can apply to emmigrate to Europe on the basis of wanting to see metal acts more regularly.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Can't find my CD (ask your parents), so I'm just streaming it on Youtube:
I'm a huge (see: XL) fan of the Afghan Whigs and I've been going back through their older stuff over the last few weeks. This album from 1996 is (I think) their best. Created after a failed attempt to write a noir film, the material was reformed into this album. I'm not sure if it's technically a concept album, but the music and lyrics compliment one another perfectly. The greasy, dimly-lit cigarette smoke filled atmosphere just bleeds through the speaker.
Anyway, the final three songs of the album (Bulletproof / Summer's Kiss / Faded) might be some of the greatest music I've ever heard. I've mentioned it here before - I love so many bands, but I don't know of a single band like the Afghan Whigs.

Most metal covers that come to mind adhere too closely to the original track. But this blackened death Taiwanese folk metal cover of Judas Priest's Painkiller is obscenely awesome.

Sorry for the crappy day... at least it's Friday, right?
I'm listening to Kalmah trying to decide whether I want to go see them and Vreid next month. I'm not really a fan, I just love Moon of My Nights. If I recall correctly it's one of the songs that got me back into metal. I need to go to more metal concerts before my body starts to get old or I move out of the city.... And I figure it's rare to see these guys in North America.
At first listen, The World of Rage from their latest album is pretty catchy too....
Lol... It's a very "busy" cover... but I like how it diverges from the original while still being recognizable during the verses/chorus.Skinypupy wrote: Fri Mar 15, 2019 2:51 pm I like Chthonic. I like death metal. I like "Painkiller". But I do not like that cover at all.

I really liked Kalmah’s “Seventh Swamphony” album, but nothing else really clicked with me.
Seen them three times on the cruise, and they put on a decent show. The singer likes to tell jokes in very broken English, then laugh like it’s the funniest thing in the world...even though not single person in the crowd knows what the hell he just said. It’s very amusing.

This album came out of nowhere, with a glowing review on Angry Metal Guy. It's much more prog than metal though, and I'm really liking it so far.

Yeah, I'm digging it more and more the further I listen to it! The instrumentation is really engaging even beyond the hooks, specifically the lead guitar and drums.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I'm enjoying continuing to explore power metal, especially the heavier bands (i.e. blast beats and stuff that's at the speed metal end of the spectrum). I like the combination of its generally brighter tone and breakneck cadence.
Manticora - Keeper of Time - Eternal Champion
I suspect the vocalist's wail could grate on some, but I find it a refreshing departure from most of the vocal styles I've encountered in the genre. He reminds me of someone, but I can't put my finger on it.

The other day I was in the car with my 5 year old and he wanted to listen to music, so I put on the local geriatric rock station. The Santana song "Evil Ways" came on and he said "Daddy! This is my favorite song! It's about ME! I love it!"

This caught my attention today. I have no idea who she is and I don't tend to track with pop music but I think I'm a fan.
