These two were very entertaining. For the Ricky Henderson episode, read the comments for some more very entertaining stories. My favorite -

Derek Jeter broke the Yankees team stolen base record after more than 15 years with the Yankees. He took that record from Henderson. Henderson played for the Yankees for just 4 1/2 years.

He set the team record of 326 in less than 600 games (596). To break the team record took Jeter 3043 games, more than 5 times as many games as Henderson player with the Yankees.

The way you learned math sucks. The Common Core teaches larger math concepts and lays the foundation for understanding numbers, rather than just getting an answer. It's like counting change. Or baking.

Sucks may be a bit harsh, but Common Core does make sense when implemented effectively over the full number of intended years. I obviously learned the old way, but I've seen Common core while helping my kids and once you figure out what concept they are trying to teach, it's pretty straight forward. It's when they come home and don't have the concept explained and just ask "how do I solve this" that we run into problems.

Yeah. The biggest problem with the Common Core is that it's harder for parents to help with homework because the kids say "That's not how we do it."

You can get them to the answer the old way, but you haven't helped them nail down what they're actually learning in class.
