For about 25 years or more we've had a disability license plate then a placard you hang on the mirror. First was the tags but we hated it on the TransAm back in the day so around 2004 we started using the hanging placard. I always thought it was for the vehicle. We are both disabled. Turns out its for individuals. So I have to get my own. Ive been disabled since I was a teen. Im not getting better and getting worse. Me and D would help each other in then grab a buggy and we'd use that to hold to. Sometimes she needed a cane and only a couple times a wheelchair. She had a permanent placard.

Well now I have to get my own. So to do that I need a doctor to sign off on it. My primary did that for me today but marked it TEMP disability. When I tried to explain Ive been disabled since I was a kid and how I hold stuff and sometimes use a cane she refused to hear it. Said since I could get around without a wheelchair it was not a permanent disability. WTF?? My wife got around to but she was bad off and she had the permanent placard.

now I don't know what to do. I can turn it in as is but it will only get a temp placard for 6 months which means every 6 months I have to redo the form with the doc plus pay the fee. If I got the perm one its no more doc forms and its every 3 years...and no cost I think.....or $3..something like that.

Is there anyone other than my primary that would fill this out right? Will walk in places do it? I can have a doctor, nurse practitioner, or a physicians assistant do it.

Do you have a specialist you see for your disability beyond just a general practitioner?

The disability placards are issued by different doctors with their own standards.
You might look for a different doctor.
Mine told me it was based on how far you could walk without resting. The standards were 50', 100' and 200'. Depending on the state. In Arkansas it is 100'.
I qualified.

I dont even know that as we always helped each other in then held a buggy as we went. I still do that once I limp in. Holding the buggy is like a walker. But of course they ask if I use a walker..no..buggy. Slaps forehead.

Just pain management. I was in that 8 years but quit when my wife died. I may have to return though as the pain is unbearable sometimes.

Even better, temporary ones are good for six months and a $10 fee for every renewal where a permanent one tied to a car registration is free. Permanent still require renewal every 2 years for $3.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

In Arkansas they are good forever but they ask you come in every four years to replace the cards as they deteriorate by then. And good for any car you drive.

Im already so tired of having to deal with people and all that comes with life. I have no idea how my little wife handled it. Part of my disability is not liking to have to deal with people. But since D died its all I am doing it seems. Bills, doctors, lawyer, prescriptions, food.....lots more. It seems I barely get a bill paid before it comes due again. Life is nothing but a horrible grind. Like a Korean RPG.

I am not sure I could use a fork efficiently with my off-hand... chopsticks is just crazy talk. I will always opt for the fork even though I am OK with chopsticks. I don't see any need to make dinner a dexterity game.

WaPo
The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled Wednesday that Caster Semenya, a two-time Olympic champion and the subject of one of the biggest controversies the track and field world has seen, will have to take medications that suppress her testosterone output to continue competing at the sport’s highest levels.

Semenya had appealed to the court, challenging a controversial International Association of Athletics Federations rule targeting women who naturally produce high levels of testosterone.

By a 2-1 margin, a panel of three arbitrators sided with the IAAF, allowing the sport’s international governing body to maintain its restrictions on athletes such as Semenya, a female competitor who is believed to have an intersex condition that causes her body to naturally produce testosterone at levels much higher than most women.

In issuing its decision, the court agreed that the IAAF rules are discriminatory, “but the majority of the Panel found that, on the basis of the evidence submitted by the parties, such discrimination is a necessary, reasonable and proportionate means of achieving the IAAF’s aim of preserving the integrity of female athletics,” the court said in its executive summary.

The controversial case had cast a spotlight on issues of women’s rights, fairness in sport and human rights, dividing many in the track and field world. At stake was whether the rule was fair to Semenya, one of the world’s most dominant middle-distance runners, and whether allowing Semenya to race with a demonstrative biological advantage was fair to her competitors.

“It is not possible to give effect to one set of rights without restricting the other set of rights,” the panel wrote.

Am I alone in not understanding why boy band BTS is popular?

I ask because I have the Billboard Music Awards playing in the background behind me. Its ALL crap. Pure crap. Where is rock n roll these days? Where is actual music? All that stuff is pure unlistenable crap to me. Yes Im a rock fan and Im old. But that noise they are awarding is not music. I want my rock. I'd take some grunge or pop even. Yuck.

It was nice revisiting the old music like Paula Abdul. The old days. been 30+ years. geez.

What annoys me these days is that there's so much sampling. Take a bit from a popular song and remix it to add it to yours instead of something brand new. It just seems so lazy to me. Not to mention, it causes me so much confusion. I'll hear a bit and try to remember the song only to realize it's not really that song at all. :?

Turned my work laptop on at 6:05 this morning, and it finally finished doing the major update (the one that requires 30 minutes, 4 restarts, and a partridge in a pear tree) at 6:32...when I had a webinar demo that started at 6:30. This is now the second time in a month that has happened.

I know nothing about IT, so I'll ask the smart folks here. Is it completely out of bounds to ask IT to give us a little heads-up when these sort of major updates are going happen? Something like a quick note that says "Hey, give yourself a little extra time next time you boot up?"

I ran into the same issue (minus the meeting/presentation). But I don't think it's out of line at all. The last couple companies that I worked had updates locked down. They'd test them out and then use SMS to push them out to everyone. For an update like this they would definitely warn us first - and generally do it overnight if possible. My current company doesn't use any kind of SMS controls. Everything either updates whenever it wants, or just lets me know constantly that it needs to update; but since I don't have admin permissions, there is almost nothing that I can actually update. So every couple of weeks I have to put in a ticket asking that someone log into my pc and update all my apps. It's incredibly annoying. And not a good way to run things.

Long story short.... you have every right to be annoyed.

My blood pressure is up a little bit so having to deal with it before they will do kidney surgery. It was always a little low my entire life. After my kidney stone blasting in 2008 it elevated a bit...like 140/100 would be high. I took medications for it but I let them and my thyroid run out around 4 or 5 years ago. Funny thing is my BP was normal again. So I let it go. But since my wife died in Jan its back up a bit....anywhere from 130/91 to 160/107. So they did blood work and put me back on BP meds. They said my thyroid is fine though which is strange. Mine was low years ago not high in that area. So doing good there. Gotta go back for more BP checks next week. Surgery is getting close.

Cholesterol was high..a little at 210 when its supposed to be at 191 they said. Ive always viewed it as a crap reading...something to make money on. My wife took meds for it and died of a stroke when her's was great. My cousin took meds for it and died of a heart attack. I was supposed to be on meds for it for the last 10 years but refused. But I will take them this time just to make sure my surgery gets done then maybe stop again. I just dont care about it. And the meds can have bad side effects. Buncha BS to me.

Hey for some reason YouTube has changed the comments for me. My comment no matter how old was always at the top for me. But now Im finding it way down or not at all. No matter the way I sort them. Any idea how to make mine stay at the top for my view? Dont care about how others see their side.

Also did not know Mike The Beardman Taylor died Dec 30. Thats the guy from Walk Off the Earth btw.

See, I kind of like those because at least they're being creative in how they use it. I'm talking more about when a song will steal a riff or a hook from another recording, sometimes even a very famous line or chorus, all very recognizable for what they are. I once heard the Beach Boys being sampled and it made me do a double-take. Might have either been Good Vibrations or Sloop John B, and I've even possibly heard Chuck Berry's version of Johnny B. Goode be sampled. It just strikes me as lazy, to piggyback onto someone else's creative work.

I still say it all depends. I love a live show when a good mixes their songs into medleys of other songs and then dance in and out of their own music. Speaking of Sloop John B, I love how MeFirst cover Sloop John B to a hook from the Ramones and then play it as if it's a Misfits song. I can even appreciate Eminem using pop music that has a rhythm that supports his rhyme.

And yet I also get the distaste for taking someones sound as if it were your own. It took me a while to accept bands like WolfMother or She Wants Revenge or Jet because what was first presented to me felt like theft of signature sounds and I was turned off. Hey this could be Black Sabbath or Joy Division or AC/DC but it's not and it's not as good and then my ability to appreciate them for what they are becomes tainted with my snap judgement.

I do this often. I have a laptop, and a good gaming machine. When I want to play a newer game on the laptop, I stream it from the big computer. I generally just close the lid on the laptop, so sometimes I get a popup on the big computer that steam is still running on another machine, just click OK and then you can proceed.

its not out of bounds, they should be giving you a grace period. critical patch available, you have 24 hours to install this patch which will require a reboot

this also bothers me, and i have written off a number of bands because of this (She Wants Revenge, Interpol and Editors are just a few examples).

the weirdest one i heard was just lately with These New Puritans _Field of Reeds_ (from 2013) which seemed to be kinda aping the style of the last two Talk Talk albums or Bark Psychosis, but then i found out Graham Sutton (of Bark Psychosis) produced the album, so that made sense. at least they were doing their own take on that aesthetic.
