The thing with the Ridge wallet (or others of similar design) is that pretty much everything is 'quick access.' Now that I'm used to it, I can pop out any card very quickly. I keep my two most frequently used cards inside, one on top and other on the bottom, and can access them much faster than my old tri-fold. I have seven cards inside, and can have any of them out in seconds. Of course the biggest thing about a minimalist wallet is that it breaks the habit of carrying around junk that you don't really need.

Not sure why you guys have trouble with wallets. My trifold is easy..open and take money....open take card....they're all right there. And my money is safe on the inside. Seconds. 3 seconds is basically the same as 2.

Not a "problem" per se, but more of a personal statement and one of the most "personal" items since watches are no longer in vogue.

I've removed most things l don't consider necessary. It's pretty much 1 ID, 1 debit card, 1 credit card, medical insurance card, my ZIPCar membership card (and unlocker) some emergency cash, and some stuff I need with me (like Google emergency pass code). I should also add my Yubiekey to that.

99% of the time, I only ever use the credit card.

Trifolds aren't really an option for the front pocket.

Decided to buy a bone conduction headphone... Aftershokz Sportz wired version. Somehow, this one actually fits me quite well, just barely. My ears can still hear stuff, but the sound quality is not compromised too much. My existing bluetooth headset is nice (actually cheaper than this wired one), but wearing only one earbud means I keep losing the eartips and I still don't get all the sound from outside. This will change that.

OK I'm going to blow your mind here.

Back in my 20s I kept getting annoyed at jackets that would get shiny and even wear down in the region of my butt. I assumed this was a byproduct of sitting on them, so I started taking special care to lift my jacket tail before I sat. This didn't help, and I went through another whole cycle of damaging a barn jacket and a pea coat before I realized the problem.

I always carry a satchel slung across my shoulder, hanging down on the right. With a leather wallet in my right rear pocket, the satchel and wallet were rubbing against other and wearing down the fabric of jacket between them. After a year or so, the damage would be noticeable. You might see similar wear in the pants' wallet pocket itself.

I switched my wallet to my left rear pocket. It took about a week to get used to, but after that it was automatic. And I haven't rubbed a hole in a jacket in 20 years.

Latest grumble: It has become impossible to find book shelves anymore. Ten years ago you could be a functional particle board bookshelf, 6 feet tall or so, from Wal-Mart (or similar stores) for $20-30. Now the only shelves they stock are designed for decorations, not books. Online, anything over 4' seems to be $100+. I have a collapsing book shelf that I need to replace, and I really need to squeak an extra shelf in somewhere, and they're just not available.

I'd imagine trying to buy DVD or CD racks is also difficult unless you go to a antique store. My dad asked for DVD movies for Xmas and I had to go to Ebay to find them. Amazon wanted to sell me digital versions or resellers were offering them at 10x the price. What a strange world we live in.

There are local FB groups in my area where people give away or sell things ultra cheap - I guess they're the online equivalent of garage sales that run 24/7. I've seen quite a few book shelves / cases, though of course you always need to be able to get them from someone's house. Maybe try that?

I think it was Remus West. I did the same as you and am still impressed with the product.

That's a purty shelf, except that it isn't really meant for book storage. It is rated at 25 pounds per shelf. My books would crush it into kindling. That's the problem I get with most shelves that are affordable. They're intended for a few books mixed in with nick-nacks to bring the total weight down. I pack my shelves like a library!

Putting in my size needs (~6' tall, at least 27" wide) I get nine shelves, five of which aren't practical ('decorative' ladder shelves, staggered shelves, etc), and one sets off my Peter Tingle for being junk. One is 20 lbs per shelf, another is 15lbs per shelf. Again, kindling. Another doesn't specify weight, but the shelves are very thin pressed wood.

I'm starting to think that I may end up having to go with ugly storage shelves that will make my bedroom look like a garage.

That one's almost tempting. It's narrower and has one shelf fewer than the one I need to replace, but there just aren't that many options anymore. I'd just need to figure out what to do with the books that don't fit.

I got mine at Walmart too years and years ago. Got one around 2000 and one about 2008. They are heavy ass things and 5 shelves plus the top. But like I said that was over 10 years ago I got the last one. We still needed two more we never got. I think at the time they were $32.

I have some low-rise (2 shelf) particle board book shelves that hold books not taller than 10" or so. Then I have a wire rack shelving unit that I probably bought 2 decades ago, shelves are spaced to handle the many tall books I have, I'm sure it's holding more than 100# per shelf.

I use mine for all my old pc games in boxes. All my hundreds of books are stored in a out building hehe. Even with little weight I notice the oldest shelf is starting to bow just a teeny bit on the shelves. But its probably from their own weight.

I told you it was troublesome. The factors: Low budget, small town, sedan. I can't get the expensive good stuff, can't find the cheap stuff locally, and can't transport the cheap stuff from elsewhere (and if I could, it would turn the cheap stuff into expensive stuff.)

I really want to move.

They still sill the Billy? I'm pretty sure that's the same bookcase I bought (two of) for my first apartment after I graduated (about 30 years ago). I think we kept them for almost 20 years, until we moved.

If there's an unfinished furniture place anywhere nearby, you can get real wood for about the price of particle board. 'Course, then you'd have to finish it. We've got three huge oak bookcases that I finished myself, back when I used to enjoy doing projects like that.

The the bookcases I finished will outlive me by decades, or even centuries, meaning I left a small anonymous mark on the world, because nice bookcases are forever. I hope that the other mark I left on the world is still anonymous and will come out with enough bleach.

What about a simple cube storage system like this? The size of each unit is 14"x14"x14" (so it's ideal for tabletop games) and each cube holds a max of 44 lb. You can configure 'em into whichever shape is most convenient, and you can always use zipties to err on the side of caution for maximum support.
