I typed and self censored my initial thought. I later typed and self censored my second thought. I don't like who I've become when it comes to where I stand with the politically disingenuous.

That would require him to actually ask for forgiveness, something he doesn't like to do.

I have no desire to watch this imbecile talk either. SOTU addresses aren't useful anyway IMO. I'm happy to read an extract later and keep the time and avoid sanity checks.

My kid gets extra credit for watching the SOTU and doing some homework questions, so I might be forced to at least overhear it.

I've commiserated with the Social Studies teacher about Trump, though, so at least I know where he's coming from.

The Navy SEAL at the center of a high-profile war crimes case has been ordered to appear before Navy leaders Wednesday morning, and is expected to be notified that the Navy intends to oust him from the elite commando force, two Navy officials said on Tuesday.

The move could put the SEAL commander, Rear Adm. Collin Green, in direct conflict with President Trump, who last week cleared the sailor, Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher, of any judicial punishment in the war crimes case. Military leaders opposed that action as well as Mr. Trump’s pardons of two soldiers involved in other murder cases.
The Intercept
THE COMMANDER OF the Navy SEALs who found himself at odds with President Donald Trump over disciplining a notorious member of his force has informed the Navy that he will step down a year early, according to three people familiar with the decision.

Rear Adm. Collin Green, commander of the Naval Special Warfare Command, will leave his post in September, two of the people familiar with his decision said.

Green was widely viewed as a reformer who was willing to hold his command accountable. His departure follows two years during which he sought to repair the vaunted military unit’s image after a slew of criminal charges against SEALs, including war crimes, murder, drug use, and sexual assault. Green had publicly told his force that the SEALs had a “problem” and that some members of the unit were “ethically misaligned.”.

Green’s departure is unusual in part because it comes as his current tour length of two years is being extended to three, meaning he has effectively declined a final year in the job and won’t seek a third star.

He will likely be replaced by another two-star SEAL admiral, H. Wyman Howard III, a former commander of SEAL Team 6, according to two people familiar with the Navy’s pick. Howard is currently in command of Special Operations Command Central.

Howard has his own questionable past. When he was a squadron commander at SEAL Team 6, Howard solicited donations to procure expensive, hand-made hatchets for his operators, and encouraged them to “bloody the hatchet” on operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, The Intercept previously reported. Later, SEAL Team 6 commanders received internal reports that Howard’s men were using the hatchets to hack dead and dying militants. SEAL Team 6 did not conduct any investigations based on the allegations.

President Trump said Tuesday that he plans to award Rush Limbaugh a Presidential Medal of Freedom, and spoke at length about Limbaugh’s power, saying he only learned Monday that the conservative talk-show host was sick and that he’d seen him several weeks ago.

Trump told the anchors ahead of Tuesday’s State of the Union address that he had wanted Limbaugh to attend the speech, according to people familiar with the meeting who spoke on the condition of anonymity. The Washington Post was not invited and did not attend the luncheon.
...
The president also touched on foreign policy. He said that he believed Iran did not seek to inflict maximum damage when it launched a strike last month on bases used by U.S. troops in Iraq but that war with Tehran was “closer than you thought.”
...
White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham declined to comment on the meeting. “I’m not going to comment on an off-the-record lunch because I actually have ethics,” she said.

I'm not watching it but I have a fact checker feed up on another that is tracking it. It appears he is lying his ass off which isn't a shock but isn't just bullshitting he is actively attacking the Democrats. Apparently he said something about healthcare that was described as a massive dog whistle. One commentator I saw said that the Republicans are jumping to his feet to cheer on his lying. They wondered if we are actually in a autocracy now and just don't feel it yet. An interesting question that we can't answer yet.

Edit: I literally typed that and he dragged Limbaugh up to bestow the Presidential Medal of Freedom in the middle of the State of Union. Fuck. We are in big trouble. He literally did this in the middle of the Democratic-led House. This is a massive overreach. Total troll time moment for the reality show loving #MAGA tribe.

As one commentator said he told another of his creepy violence stories - probably a Stephen Miller piece. The State of the Union is hate. And reality tv. He apparently ordered a soldier back from Afghanistan and reunited him with wife and kids at the SOTU. This is beyond ridiculous.

https://twitter.com/RadioFreeTom/status ... 0283684866

And the Democrats can't even run a primary. Condition black above is right.

Capitalism tries for a delicate balance: It attempts to work things out so that everyone gets just enough stuff to keep them from getting violent and trying to take other people’s stuff.

Also:

During a discussion with a caller to “The Rush Limbaugh Show” back in April 2015, Limbaugh denied second-hand smoke was a danger and said it takes 50 years for smokers to get cancer.

The caller was questioning Limbaugh’s logic that society should be thankful for smokers because of the tax money generated from the sale of tobacco products.

After asking who smokers were harming, Limbaugh denied second-hand smoke caused any deaths.

“That is a myth. That has been disproven at the World Health Organization and the report was suppressed,” Limbaugh claimed. “There is no fatality whatsoever. There’s no even major sickness component associated with secondhand smoke. It may irritate you, and you may not like it, but it will not make you sick, and it will not kill you.”

“Firsthand smoke takes 50 years to kill people, if it does,” he said. “Not everybody that smokes gets cancer. Now, it’s true that everybody who smokes dies, but so does everyone who eats carrots.”

Limbaugh went on to ask why the government didn’t ban tobacco if it was so dangerous before claiming the society had vilified smokers, even though “their purchases are funding children’s health care programs.”

“I would like a medal for smoking cigars, is what I’m saying,” Limbaugh added.
Well, you finally got it, you piece of shit. And every other Medal of Freedom out there is cheaper for it.

Pelosi apparently ripped out his speech and threw it on her desk! Holy shit. You couldn't help but feel like this year is not going to go well but this is completely out of control.

So a re-cap - he promoted a general, awarded the Presidential medal of Freedom to a racist fuck, reunited a family, and gave out a scholarship (I just saw that in my feed). So literally a game show host. It's over folks. He might as well ended it by firing a machine gun into the air.

I flipped on the 1st response to the SOTU. This is a tough job but also shows why the Democrats have such an uphill battle. Trump is giving away family reunions on tv while the Democrats can only make promises that everyone knows can't be done.

Worse he again showed that he is a divider. He took a moment where it is job to talk to the *UNION* and spoke to the 40%. He attacked immigrants. He attacked the Democrats. He attacked, attacked, and attacked some more. He had moments of tone that called back to his 'american carnage' inauguration speech. It was dark and then he pulled game show nonsense to try to balance it. He obviously and blatantly lied and the GOP stood to cheer him. It was a complete aberration. That she symbolically tore it up is hardly the biggest sin of the night.

I was more disgusted by the obvious use of them by Trump. He may as well have trotted out a sick child and then just held him for the entire speech, pointing him like a gun at anyone who didn’t praise Trump.

Proud moment for them, I guess.
That's what I like about you. You always call out both sides.
Calls em as I sees em.
Does this mean you agreed with everything Trump said as you've had no critique of it?

In things can get better new (locally)

A family's clash of views on immigration goes public as a 23-year-old Navy veteran speaks out against parental bigotry.

Matt Burtell: "I stand in solidarity with the refugees and immigrants." (Photo: LinkedIn)

"My father asked a deliberately racist question at the Saline Area Schools diversity and inclusion meeting," university student Matt Burtell posts on Facebook, referring to a Monday exchange in a video played more than 320,000 on YouTube. It shows Tom Burtell, 49, asking restaurant owner Adrian Iraola: "Then why didn't you stay in Mexico?" (The immigrant had described schoolmates' taunting of his son's ethnicity.)

"His views of hate in no way represent my own," the younger Burtell says in a post shared over 600 times. "I stand in solidarity with the refugees and immigrants of the world."
This is a follow up to an MLive video of local parent asking a Mexican Immigrant entrepreneur "Why didn't you stay in Mexico?" when Immigrant was recounting teasing that caused his son to lock himself away in his room as part of a community response to social media being used slur local by other local children.

Oddly enough, I woke to Alice Cooper songs from Flush the Fashion, Billion Dollar Babies and Special Forces playing in my head.

Really, I think Generation Landslide is our only hope and I think this disgusts, enrages, and panics the powerful and elder bigots.

I've always loved Alice Cooper but I don't really think I understood what he was really about until much later in life.

Nope. Not at all. I chuckled at some of the crap he said and a few moments were obviously pandering to minorities.
But as far back as I can remember this opportunity has been used by Presidents to blow their own horn and trot out "regular" Americans to bolster their points. Didn't find anything Trump did to be a whole lot different.
