Just had a power outage in San Francisco. Came back in about an hour... or 90 minutes. Was kinda annoying.

Jif is peanut butter, after which they named the file extension. So from the mouths of the people who coined the word, 'jif' is the correct way to say it.

Of course, that argument ignores the fact that language isn't static. We all know that 'house mouse' is pronounced 'hooosuh moosuh', just like when the words originated, and 'thou' is pronounced 'thoo' with an unvoiced 'th' as in 'with.'

So, yeah. Pronounce it whichever way you prefer, and if people know what you're talking about, congratulations - you pronounced it right.

If language isn't static, then there's no such thing as facts in language usage.

I agree with the pic..GIF is not pronounced as a J like in the JIF peanut butter. Its a G. For GILF you dont say Jandmother.

I've always pronounced it as Jif as that's the way it was pronounced back in the early days of Compuserve where it first made its debut. The hard-G pronunciation came later.

I was neutral about it until I found out that the developers who created it pronounced it 'jif' on purpose. Their in-house slogan was, "Choosy developers choose gif."

Anyone understand why chicken and turkey is so high priced these days? These are the meats we used to buy because they were the cheapest of the cheap. Now days you pay $5+ for a container of turkey and get two sandwiches out of it. And KFC has been the most expensive fast food places to try and fill up on for many years now.

Ground beef is getting up there more and more but I can still get 2 lbs of it for around $5.30. Food is just nutty costly these days.

Pretty soon Ill need insurance and a good co-pay to go to the grocery store.

You should definitely read The Forever War. It is actually the first (and best) of a series.

I kind of feel the real estate tax pain of our New Jersey brethren this year, as between a proposed tax rate hike and a big property value assessment jump, I'm looking at a 10.5% jump in real estate tax on my home between 2019 and 2020.

Today Ive been wondering of a tv show or movie series based on the Star Wars 'What If' scenario would be fun. That being what if Luke accepted his father Vaders offer to join him. It would follow them as they team up and get to know each other and their powers and take on the Emperor and bring the galaxy to heel.

Id really like to see what happens and how a Vader / Luke team would fare and how it would differ from Palp's empire.
