Yeah my Republican co-workers are downplaying it at every opportunity, despite the fact that the hospital I work at is in full emergency mode. Command center is open, managers are in all-day meetings, all business travel has been halted for 90 days, and contingency plans are being made for all non-essential staff (roughly 2500 people) to work from home.

I've been there 11 years through every other disease outbreak, and we've never come anywhere close to this. But sure, keep telling yourself this is fake news.

If there's one thing I know for certain, is that hospitals like ours don't go through emergency preparedness based on "media hype." Every time someone on FB downplays this, I just want to drag them into my office for a day to see how my entire workflow has shifted to do nothing but focus on COVID-19 related contingencies.

Part of Trump's Coronavirus response is to issue a total travel ban to and from Europe (excluding the UK) for 30 days.

This is going to destroy the markets tomorrow.

There's no getting around that amidst an oil price war between OPEC and the Russians + a global health crisis such as this. We're just gonna have to weather the storm as best we can and hope for the best.

Which you can do when the United States doesn't have any cases and you're trying to stop it from coming here. Spoiler: It's already here - travel ban does absolutely nothing to stop this. Beyond disastrous. A chimpanzee in a diaper could arguably make better decisions.

MSN

Two close congressional allies of President Trump underwent coronavirus testing in recent days in apparent defiance of federal recommendations reserving those tests for patients exhibiting symptoms of infection — and amid growing concerns about the availability of testing for Americans who are sick.

Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), the latter of whom Trump named last week as the next White House chief of staff, both said in statements that the tests showed no infection after exposure to a coronavirus carrier at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference last month in suburban Washington.

Nothing elevates trust more during a crisis than when it's abundantly clear that elected officials don't follow the same rules as the very people they're telling not to panic or that it's all a hoax. This exact crap happened in October of 2001 with the Anthrax attacks. Never change D.C. elite, never change.

Sanjay Gupta just had Don Lemon read the CDC’s coronavirus testing stats off of his phone.

ZERO tests conducted today by CDC.

A grand total of 8 tests conducted by other public health agencies across the country.

EIGHT.

That doesn’t pass the sniff test one bit.

I can’t imagine a scenario where there were only 8 tests done nationwide today.

So apparently they're only worried about people possibly having corona virus if they walk over the border.
I picked up my sister from ATL airport yesterday. she flew in from Guatemala yesterday, landed at 12:23 and was out front on the curb by 12:46 with all her bags. I/she have never see anything like it. It was a ghost town at on of the worlds busiest airports. They did at least check her for a fever before she boarded in Guatemala but once state side it was come on in. Granted few confirmed cases in Latin America but still.
Shes more likely to get it in Atlanta.
Guatemala just put in a 7 day mandatory quarantine for anyone flying in from Europe. I suspect the same for those flying in from the Us before she leaves on Saturday. Looks like she might stay for a few more...weeks. Yea ME!.

This is what the CDC itself is reporting on their own website. My thought is that they made errors again as they have said they are moving towards privatizing testing. They could have created an air gap. These guys are completely incompetent. You can't under estimate it after the crazy announcements tonight.

It could be that they're saying they conducted zero independent tests and ran 8 confirmation tests that were supplied to them by states.

If that's the case, also not comforting.

EDIT: As someone that is legitimately on the CDC's website just about every day, I can tell you that their ability to share and format information since about 2010 or so has been amazing. They legitimately must have hired all kinds of skilled people to format and disseminate really excellent info on just about anything you can imagine.

The idea that all of a sudden they're unable to share testing data in a format that is easy to understand is jarring to me. But given what we now know about controlling that info, not surprising.

The only good thing about that debacle last night was that he confirmed he is the worst President in American history. Heck top 10 worst leaders of a major nation in 200 years probably. Though that is way harder to pin down.

Interesting how Britain was spared from the travel ban. Is it because they speak English and aren't like the usual foreigners? He has resorts in Scotland and Ireland? They have really thorough screening? Last I heard, the number of cases in Britain was rising...

Considering Trump, on live TV, initially banned all trade coming from Europe, it's no wonder DHS had to go back and issue a corrected statement.

It was arbitrary. I listened to AM radio on the way home from practice to gauge MAGAT reaction. Caller after caller praising Trump for his quick, decisive action. The easiest way to understand what this WH does is realize this is all a continuing conversation with an idiotic base signaled via affirmative use of power. It doesn't have to be useful. It just needs to sound powerful.

It also helps him when the media points out the shortcomings. That noise is confirmation that what he is doing is working. He has got them conditioned to believe everything is a political attack on the President and therefore false. We're fuct.
