I feel like empty stadiums combined with literally everything else that's happening will cover that?
On the one hand, I still see people claiming this is overblown and will just be a minor cold for 99% of us. I think whatever happens, there's a sizable community that are going to be dumb and not take this seriously (of course, I'm also seeing others sharing false paranoid information with no basis in science, so there's going to be dumb stuff on both sides)
There is, but fuck them. If we somehow escape this without our health system collapsing, it will still be a wake up call to the smarter 2/3 of the US not to be complacent and elect a corrupt moron just because you don't like the other candidate.
The cult of Trump had their day and they were found wanting. It's time to vow to never allow this to happen again. We outnumber them, let's act like it.

I just received, in back to back emails at work, a message informing me that all non-critical face to face meetings are prohibited, and an invitation to Pie for Pi Day next week.
Good times.
Non-critical face to face. Non-critical pie to face is OK.
. . . and today they want a list of anyone on my team who doesn't have a laptop. Presumably this means they're about to make us all work from home. This is escalating quickly!

I hope you are right. I'm not sure. The irony of course is the people most affected are statistically Trump supporters. Who has all their money in the market? 60+ Who are the most susceptible? 60+ Who will have to turn to medicare in the shape it is as their first treatment option? 65+ Who are Trumps most faithful voters who are likely to ignore everything and blame Biden or Bernie or house democrats or government interference while doomsday prep? 60+.
Specifically, men 60+

I got that e-mail from my kids' school. I think odds that they're going to school in person on Monday are low.

My town feed has one idiot constantly telling people this. I've chastised her publicly several times now. To the point I won't be shocked if someone comes to my front door. I don't care. People like her are endangering people's lives. Fuck that. It won't shock anyone that her background is #MAGA stuff to the gills and she is harping about #FakeNews.

March Madness cancelled. I wonder how far we'll take the "shut it down" approach here in the US as compared to Denmark and Italy.
All gatherings over 100 cancelled
All schools, colleges, childcare facilities and cultural institutions will be closed
All non-critical public sector employees sent home
All private sector employees encouraged to work from home
Disney closing California parks starting Saturday through the end of the month. Park workers will be paid.
No word on Florida.

This is super difficult. With Disneyland you essentially just shut down the park. With WDW you have a massive ecosystem at play. I'm assuming they are running a business continuity incident right at this moment. Likely across several of their business units. From a professional point of view this has been fascinating because you can tell who has good planning and who doesn't by their responses.

One way or another, this is going to be a wake-up call to a lot of people.
I see it more as a test. Especially when the economic issues become clearer, we'll see how the public swings. Is it all about blaming rather than fixing? If help is forthcoming, who gets it? Corporations or people? In a country where covering everyone with health insurance is unacceptable, can the people who'll need the most help look forward to anything other than a 'it sucks to be you' response to calls for help?

Just got a message that my daughter’s school (district) is closed tomorrow and they will be starting an eLearning program on Monday for at least 2 weeks, if not longer.
The economic impact of business closures, supply delays, lay-offs, sick time, bankruptcies, etc will be even greater than that of the stock market fall. I'm no economist, but is there any possible scenario in which all of this just "blows over" by the Fall?
If not, we have to be watching out for what Trump will do to tilt the election when he no longer has the economy on his side. I'm convinced that he's willing to try almost anything, no matter how despotic, and that the senate will go right along.

The reports I saw yesterday suggested he wanted the payroll tax cut to extend through November, after the elections. Because that's what's important right now.

A cosponsor of this event that Trump advisor Paula White is speaking at next month just emailed a promotion with the subject line "Supernatural Protection from the CoronaVirus Now." It also noted: "Due to huge demand we are moving the meetings to the Phoenix Convention Center!"
The grift and delusion and lack of virus-awareness is obvious, but I think what irks me most is these Christianist assholes trying to hijack "Passover 2020."

I agree, he'll pull out all the stops to get re-elected. It's all or nothing for the Republicans. If things get bad enough to sink Trump's ship, I think he'll drag down other Republicans up for election along with him. So there's no reason for them to hold back on whatever it takes. It all hinges on what constitutes 'blow over' to the public. What if the health threat blows over, but the economy is on the ropes, will the public be happy that at least everyone didn't die? Will the public be angrier over the economic problems rather than the health issues? Anything is possible in these crazy times.

Best-case scenario, this is a seasonal virus like its little friends the common cold and influenza, and it goes into natural retreat come May. Combined with our prevention efforts, that could stop it quickly. Science has no opinion whether that will happen or not (although the Occupant says it will). Would it come roaring back in the fall, after we let our guard down? No idea. Maybe not.
I just heard (on Pod Save America) something that never even occurred to me as fallout from Trump’s Oval Office address last night.
His stupid announcement of a travel ban from Europe (later corrected/retconned not to include US citizens) led to a literal rush on European airports by ticket-buyers, US citizens and not.
Trump’s words were responsible for the formation of large, close-packed, hours-long crowds in the middle of a viral pandemic.

Would not surprise me to learn we don't have test kits because he's hoarding them and testing himself 2x a day.
Taken with 2 grains of salt....
but I read on twitter just now that he didn't want testing done because he was afraid of what it would do to his re-election chances. I'll try and get the link.
