What is he going to do? Ring the states with FBI agents? What this looks like is just more Trump bullshit. It's just another distraction to make this all about himself.

Coast Guard/National Guard, Marshall law. That's the only thing I could see. And if it's come out of his mouth, he's fantasizing about it. The fake news Chinese flu germ he predicted and stopped before anyone else knew about it that allows him to finally become a dictator like his idols.malchior wrote: Sat Mar 28, 2020 2:34 pm What is he going to do? Read further down. He’s thinking of asking people to self-quarantine for 14 days. In states that have already proactively gone under lockdown for 7-10 days. What a dolt.

Ah that's new information. So essentially he is going to "order us" to do the thing we are already doing. If it works out he'll take credit for it. If it doesn't work we didn't do it right/fast enough. Got it.
Edit: This idiot might be causing a bit of a (possible) panic. I've seen several people on my various feeds asking if they need to get out before the quarantine so they aren't stuck with all the sick people. The exact opposite of the way you should handle it but that is Trump's anti-gift. Everything he does turns to shit.

I love how he singles out Connecticut (which is currently 15th in number of cases) instead of someplace like, say, Louisiana or Florida.

It also gives time for new treatment therapies to be developed before we get a vaccine.

Sadly, that makes sense. He ordered GM to start producing medical supplies in response to GM starting to produce medical supplies... Supplies that will he will want for his task force, that he won't be making available to Michigan because of "that woman in charge" who is "in way over her head" and "doesn't have a clue".malchior wrote: Sat Mar 28, 2020 3:37 pm Ah that's new information. President Donald Trump called Alex Rodriguez seeking advice on coronavirus response
I assume he then followed it up by asking Dr Fauci how to hit a homerun.

The NY, NJ, CT quarantine? It'll be a travel advisory from the CDC. Guess someone clued Trump to the fact that he can't do it.

Re: Corona Virus/Superbug Thread: It's the End of the World as We Know It...
I think back to January when illness was running through the twins' school, including the twins getting sick. There was a lot of high fever (boy twin hit 105 the day I took him to the ER). He was diagnosed with adenovirus and we eventually all had it to some level (including oldest son being hospitalized for about 2.5 weeks). My fantasy is that we all had coronavirus before anyone knew what it was so we've made it past the first wave (infecting untold others, of course). In reality I know the symptoms were different enough (including no breathing/lung issues) and the reality that they actually diagnosed us with a different virus means we're still at risk. Still, I can always dream . . . .Smoove_B wrote: Sat Mar 28, 2020 10:42 am I'm of the mind it was absolutely here in January, circulating at low levels and moving under the radar. At some point then in late February / early March it was at high enough levels in places like NYC (with enough people getting visibly sick) that it's now a visible problem.
That's my purse! I don't know you!

Unvalidated but plausible reports of allocation of emergency supplies being politically motivated. If true, the message seems to be to blue states. Be nice to me or fuck you, you die. MA received 17% of requested medical supplies from the Trump admin. ME: 5%. CO: 1 day's worth.
FL got everything they requested. + an identical shipment the next week. oh, and a 3rd is on the way.

MA often suffers under Republican presidents because they underfund science and education, and they steer contracts to red states. But this guy is the worst since Nixon punished us for backing McGovern.

Hi Laura, I just spoke with the Coronavirus and it told me it will stop killing people on Thursday, April 16 at 1pm.Americans need to know date certain when this will end. The uncertainty for businesses, parents and kids is just not sustainable.
The virus is asking if that works for you or would you like them to move it to noon?

Not just FL, but Arizona and South Carolina also received their full requests. SC, like FL, has already received two full shipments. Meanwhile, California received 170 broken ventilators from Trump. And Michigan claims vendors have been ordered not to send any medical supplies to the state at all.malchior wrote: Sat Mar 28, 2020 10:25 pm Unvalidated but plausible reports of allocation of emergency supplies being politically motivated. Meanwhile, Trump has strategically outbid blue states at the last minute after ordering Governors to secure their own resources. Both MA and NM had secured orders swiped from their states by Trump, repeatedly.
It's obvious what he's doing.

Re: Corona Virus/Superbug Thread: It's the End of the World as We Know It...
So, I like to follow this think to see the stats. This site is tracking 683,583 known cases, with 32,144 attributed deaths. That's a calculated mortality rate of around 4.7%. I get that the 680k number is known cases, not total cases, so the 4.7% rate isn't what's bugging me - although it's mildly alarming.
Of the 683,583 known cases, 505,043 of those cases are still active cases that have not resolved one way or another, with 25,422 still in serious or critical care.
The number that I find concerning in all of this is that of the 683,583 cases - the number of cases that has reached one resolution or another is 178,540. And of that number, 32,144 have reached a resolution of death. So in the cases where we know the actual outcome (recovery or death), nearly 18% of those are death?!

We're still early in this. Those factors won't be meaningful until more time has passed. The problem is that a confirmed recovery takes weeks from onset, while deaths take a few days. As fast as this is building, the survivors numbers are just much slower in reaching resolution.

I'm not sure that's true. My understanding is that average time in ICU is something like 10-14 days, regardless of successful or fatal outcome.Blackhawk wrote: Sun Mar 29, 2020 9:51 amWe're still early in this. Re: Corona Virus/Superbug Thread: It's the End of the World as We Know It...
Those known cases are based on tests. A very large number of individuals were diagnosed, but not tested, are sent home with 14-day self quarantine orders. Many, they are still in the 14 days. Others they are recovered but not reported, neither as known cases nor recovered cases.RunningMn9 wrote: Sun Mar 29, 2020 9:44 am So, I like to follow this think to see the stats. Bottom line, many of the least serious cases aren't on the books yet. We'll need mass antibody testing to know the full extent.
That's not to downplay the seriousness but I don't think it's as high as 4.7%, let alone 18%. On the other hand, as discussed in one of these threads, there are probably many unattributed deaths that should be in the numerator and denominator. Just not as many as unattributed cases and recoveries.
Look at Latvia on your link. 347 cases, 0 deaths, 1 recovery since March 1. That's lack of reporting and testing. The same case for most nations probably, to varying degrees.

I'm not convinced that all countries/states are reporting the number of resolved cases (or aren't updating those numbers as often as the number of cases)
Also, from what I've read people who are hospitalized tend to be hospitalized for up to 6 weeks (and are typically on ventilators for 10-22 days), but that people who die tend to die early on. So that would also skew the deaths to resolved ratio upwards.

I'd take much of the data with a grain of salt. Too many unknowns (asymptomatic patients, certain countries (china? russia? turkey?) possibly lying, etc), and we've also seen other issues that can mess up the data (testing that isn't entirely accurate, people who supposedly got reinfected, but maybe it was a false negatives? Or maybe they got infected with the second strain?).RunningMn9 wrote: Sun Mar 29, 2020 11:31 am This is all good information to process. The messaging out of the WH team has been spectacularly inconsistent. A few days ago it was Trump saying something along the lines of 'We'll have the nation open before Easter.' Now today it is every Metro area will not be spared? Put that in perspective because NY is melting down right now.
I've never been so angry in my life. These people should have been preparing for this 2 months ago. Now they are raising the alarm? The staggering incompetence is unbelievable. "The sooner we react..." Good lord.

I dont think anything anyone says bad against Trump or even outright shows him killing people will change the minds of half the country. The better thing to do is piss him off so he blows up in public all the time and hope for a stress death. They should really start digging at him with how Obama would have handled this by now and Obama could cure this by touching people and stuff.

Re: Corona Virus/Superbug Thread: It's the End of the World as We Know It...
This is what I struggle with every day of my life. The overwhelming rage at just how incompetent this Administration is at everything. How vindictive they are at every perceived slight. And how so many people continue to support it. I just can't take it some days. The number of people that I've had to just write out of my life because they've shown themselves to be awful human beings, at their core.malchior wrote: Sun Mar 29, 2020 12:01 pmI've never been so angry in my life. These people should have been preparing for this 2 months ago.
Getting in front of a microphone and telling the nation that you will kill people in certain states, if they aren't nice to you and show sufficient appreciation...that this person wasn't apprehended and removed from office before the end of that press conference is mind-boggling to me.
Had Obama publicly announced that he was going to ignore NJ during the Hurricane Sandy disaster, because Gov. Christie (R) was mean to him. My head explodes as the consequences of that. And instead, we all just sit here like this is somehow okay.
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range
