Looked at one of the articles online one of those "eat this not that" articles, and it turned out to be pure BS.

Basically, the article claimed that MIO and other similar stuff includes "anti-freeze". This is the type of crap that "Food Babe" used to peddle, calling out food additives that also have other uses and claimed it's somehow bad. Remember "yoga mat" thing? Sure, propylene glycol is sometimes used as antifreeze as the "pet-safe" version. Ethylene glycol is dangerous as it tastes sweet and is poisonous, but that's not here. propylene glycol has been in use in food as generally considered harmless for decades. What did the article recommend? Expensive stevia and natural fruit flavored stuff, of course. :-P
Next time you're at the store, buy yourself a few experimental packs of Bubly, Aha, or La Croix. It's water, it's flavored, and it doesn't have any sweeteners.

I've ordered a box of Stur variety pack. Supposedly it has no preservatives nor sweeteners. I'll have to read the label once it arrives in about 2 weeks.

I've tried those canned water. :-P It's a bit of meh. Right now, it's Country Line Lemonade mix (calories), MIO (no calories), and Diet Coke, a little of each, and I do stay hydrated.

keep at it - the flavor is more subtle, but after a while you come to prefer that... speaking as an ex-Mtn. Dew drinker (it was for the flavor, not the caffeine...)

Yep. Most American flavor habits are built around intensity. Drink less intense stuff for a while and something like Mountain Dew or Coke tastes like drinking syrup.

Yep, and I'd keep trying different flavors until you find one you like. I'd say all brands tend to be fairlly inconsistent, with some flavour profiles being bolder than others. The first Lacroix flavor I tried was the Mango flavor and that was seriously amazing. Then I tried another and that one was just OK, nothing to write home about. More recently I tried the Fresca Black Cherry flavor, and that's another great one.

if you're talking powder just put 2 or 3 times the amount in the water :) When I used to make Kool-Aid I never added as much water as it called for. Then I started using 2 packets instead of one.

I think we're talking sparkling water. I would never personally use powder as I think those contain sugar.

I use LESS powder than called for, esp. when it comes to Crystal Light. On these MIO things? It's supposed to be 1 squirt per 8 oz of water. I do 3 squirts into my 32 oz water bottle. I probably could have gone as low as 2 squirts.

EDIT: just tried it. I'll stick to 2 squirts for 32 oz bottle from now on.

Outside with my dog I realized Im probably the oldest guy in the neighborhood. Back in 1988 when I moved here to be with my future wife I was 18. I wouldn't be 19 until that May. So other than a couple kids I was most likely the youngest one around here. Over the years all the older folk have either moved away or died. Younger folk now live in those homes. Ill be 51 this year. Thinking on it with at least those I actually know of the neighbors are all in their late 20s - early 40s. I know of one woman who is about what my wife would be now...bit older. So Im the old man of the area I suppose. So strange. Some of them and for sure their kids think Im elderly. I about am. Wow what a thought.

My wife insisted on helping. She was actually helpful though. But with her health problems I tried and tried to get her to sit anything out. Sometimes she would but others no way. She did help and I was glad to see her feeling so good. But at the same time I always felt like a bad person for not somehow making her not do anything...which was impossible.

Years ago we decided the back of the house needed a few boards of siding. She insisted on helping and to be honest without her I could not have done it as well or maybe not at all. I'd set the siding in place and she held it while I nailed one end. Then she'd go hold the other end up straight and me nailing it all in place.

Also a few years ago..I'm thinking both these were like 9 years ago.....the 50 year old tile in the bathroom starting breaking up. I scraped the rest of it away and we got linoleum for it. Again she wouldn't sit it out. It took us about an hour total but we got it in. She would straighten and move it while I cut it around everything like the tub and toilet and such. Its still amazing how good it looks for only costing us a few bucks for an old piece of linoleum at a discount floor shop.

She was an amazing person. Now I just fumble around on my own, do stuff, and call it good enough.

How much of a drunk person's actions reflect their true self? Like if someone gets drunk and attacks someone else, yelling that they hate them - does that mean there's hate in reality - or is it all the booze talking? Does booze have it's own voice?

Any isolated incident is hardly definitive. The drunk might have had an especially bad day, or might be misinformed. However, a habitually happy or mean drunk reveals their underlying personality type. Some people are just belligerent and the booze removes their inhibitions. I wouldn't read too much into a single incident, though, especially if you don't know the person well.

It can cause exaggerated emotions (I love you man!), so I’d say that it’s true the person has been displeased with you, but ‘hate’ is probably the booze’s word.

Also, bad choices. The drunk brain may decide it’s good to put on an exaggerated front to make their point better.

I'm trying to take what I experienced with a grain of salt. I've been around some drunk people before, but never had one actually get extremely angry at me.

I have one of those Gerber Dime micro-multi-tools. As it's on my keychain, it is getting a bit beat-up.

But when I looked online for a holder, the prices are pretty... outrageous. The only one I saw that fits the bill... cost as much as the multi-tool itself... About $20.

I have no doubt it's nice, but who the heck would buy it at that price?

Darn it. I managed to break my can opener... And it was the nice $15 kitchen-aid one. When I rotate the knob, the bottom and the top no longer "mesh" together nicely. I don't recall opening cans lately. But nobody else had cans to open, right?

What should have taken 30 seconds turned into an almost 15 minute affair, where I basically used the "broken" can opener as a punch to punch out lid one tiny section at a time. ARGH.

Thumbs up on the Gerber Dime; that’s become my favorite everyday pocketknife.

Personally I like how mine has been getting beaten up. The weathering makes it feel more... authentic? More rugged?

Last night someone three houses down was having a lively party. It was weird to hear in these days of social distancing. They were probably all under 30.

Most of the guests had left by about 11 pm, but over the course of the next two hours it morphed into an increasingly angry drunken front-porch argument between two adult brothers over money. I was on the point of calling the cops to shut them up when the loudest and drunkest stormed off down the street and (presumably) went home.

Since I could hear nearly every word, it was easy to track how each drink made them more and more belligerent. Clearly the issue had been simmering for months or years, but they seemed to all be having a genuinely good time until enough alcohol brought out the anger.

Got something in my eye. I thought it was a lash. I let it try and tear itself out. No go. tried warm water. No go. I rubbed it and stuff. No go. Now its red in that outside corner and the weird part is the eyeball itself seems swollen on that side. the white part. You can see it is difference where it meets my iris. And I feel it when I blink. Still hurting. ive boiled some salt water and when it cools enough Ill drop some in. I dont have anything at home for eyes.

If you develop sensitivity to bright lights, see a Dr.

(serious)

It's a sign of possible infection in a wound, like if you got a microscopic little piece of metal from some truck's exhaust or something random.

Blinking and tears / eyedrops should be your only physical interaction.

Im leaving it alone for now. It stopped burning and hurting. Just feels like I have something stuck in it because its swollen now. Hard to blink.

On another note my gum infection below it is back. I used to get 1 a year or so. Then they started increasing. I think since last year at this time Ive had 8. I get oen a month now. But this one is twice i na month. I took some old amoxicillin I had that didn't help. Told the doc over the phone and they said they'd call in something else called something..was a form of the same stuff but new and stronger. Well they failed so I called back and got another doc and they called in..amoxicillin again. This telemedicine is shit. I said F it and took . It cleared it up after 10 days. 3 days later it returned which was yesterday. I havent bothered to call them again. I have to go near them Monday so I may just drop by...or not...not sure due to Covid. Tempted to let it kill me....painful though lol. Life is so annoying. If I call in it may not help. If I go I could catch a deadly bug. If I do nothing it may kill me. Fun times.

Hahaha I just realized my entire left side is on the fritz. Left wrist is still painful and almost useless. Busted in feb 2019. Left hip/back/pelvis is shot and painful to move on. Left knee I busted playing football as a teen comes and goes and right now its so bad I cant barely move on it because Ive flared it up trying to clean the brush from my back yard. Left gum infected because I cant afford a dentist and my medicare wont cover the mouth even if it is attached to me. I take so many antibiotics Ill probably get a resistant bacteria..if I dont already have that, Left eye swollen and painful. Im a leftist it seems.

Left foot is ok. Ill probably step on a nail or a snake.

So, as the days progress, try looking at bright things, like the bathroom light or something - and see if your eye tingles and you feel compelled to squint to lower the discomfort.

If that is happening there is something lodged in your cornea and it's super simple for an eye doctor to see it and painlessly remove the foreign object.

If it's a modest scratch (which will itch like mad too) but you can tolerate it, you are doing what you should do. In any case, resist rubbing the fuck out of it.
