I started tossing mine in the recycling after the first few weeks. I hope somebody's skimming them out for eventual redemption, because I don't have the space or the patience. We're probably throwing away around $3 per week.

When I went to school in NY in the mid-90s, my home town in NJ used to not have curbside recycling pick up. I used to save up garbage bags of cans and throw it in the car before heading back upstate during breaks to pay for the gas.

Trump just announced that he's taking hydroxychloroquine every day.

He has had no Corona symptoms and didn't claim to have tested positive. So he's taking it as... a preventative? What?

Yeah, he's either lying or they're telling him it's hydroxychloroquine and it's really just a Flinstones vitamin. Given the potential side effects, I can't imagine they're really dosing him with it.

So, the guy who says [pulls up literally any transcript of any public statement made by Trump in the past 5 years] is going after Biden for "seemingly incomprehensible statements"?

Good luck with that resonating with anyone outside the most hardcore MAGA's.

The only thing that comes to mind is he genuinely believes it's the solution and wants to be able to say he was right. He wants to go "in your face. Scientists and their fake science got nuthin' on me. I am the only one who knows."

I totally can't understand taking it as a prophylactic but then I know nothing about pharmacology.

That's a no win situation. You don't want him to be the blind squirrel but you don't want to go "oh yeah, see all those people with heart problems dying." (though I imagine it's the heart problems and the complication caused by COVID19 that is actually doing the killing)

It wouldn’t shock me in the least if the next step here was “I actually tested positive for COVID-19, but it didn’t affect me because I’m the picture of perfect health and I was taking this drug. Therefore, there is no threat and everyone just should get back to work.”

By the By, I looked up Truth Over Facts and it's apparently a reference to a Biden speech from last year, so while it really sounds like a Trump legion thing. It's actually a Biden thing

"Everybody knows who Donald Trump is. Even his supporters know who he is. We got to let him know who we are. We choose unity over division. We choose science over fiction. We choose truth over facts."

-Joe Biden, Iowa rally, August 8 2019.

I agree he's the kind of guy who is desperate to always be right. I think there's another aspect of his personality that can affect this. He can't admit to making mistakes. If, early on, he got the idea that this chemical might work he might have decided to go with it as the solution. But after a while when it turns out not to be the case, he is stuck. He knows it's not the answer but now his personal pride is caught up in it being the answer. He's in a position where if he admits to the mistake, he knows it means having egg on his face. I think he will do anything to avoid that.

So it’s a Biden gaffe ?

It sounds like part of a written phrase that he got wrong but I can’t think of what it should have said.

And then I don’t even understand the point of it being co-opted.

I would guess it’s something along the lines of “We choose truth over ‘alternative facts’”, but Biden flubbed it, as he is wont to do.

Trump: It's up to the states to handle this however they want. I take no responsibility.

Also Trump: We will "step in" if we don't like what the states are doing."
President Trump told governors on a conference call Monday that he "will step in" if the federal government disagrees with state reopening plans, as he largely expressed satisfaction with how the governors are moving to lift coronavirus restrictions in their individual states, according to a report.

...

"The governors are making their decisions, and want to make their decisions, and that's the way I want it to, and we will step in if we see something going wrong, or if we disagree, and some people say that's nice, and some people say I shouldn't be doing that, but we're going to do it if we see something wrong," Trump said to the governors Monday, according to audio of the call obtained by CBS.

Except that he can’t step in if he wants, because he’s not an emperor. The individual Governor’s have the authority to open or close at the State-level. The Feds cannot override that because they don’t like it.
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range

Tell that to DHS and how they've been acting for that last four years and how they've been funded the last four years. And how the Patriot Act has been expanding. If Congress don't stop him and we don't stop Congress, then???
