1. Almost got my car rear ended by a genius not paying attention. My pharmacy sits on a corner. The way I went today theres a red light then you make a left and instantly a right into the pharmacy. So light changes and I go left and the guy behind me sorta lags on his start I guess cause as Im starting to brake after turning left to make my way into the pharmacy this idiot is coming fast to make up his slow start. I can see him in my mirror...he is not slowing and Im not sure he is looking. So I was forced to let off the brakes and fly into the parking lot faster than Id like and he still almost got me. I really thought he would but even over my radio I hear his tires screaming. Hope it taught him to watch where the fuck he is going. Jerk.

2. Are grocery stores a mecca for food waste or something? I was taught when you brought home meats of any type you use them in a couple days or freeze them. Most meats in the store have a sell by or use by date thats within a week or a few days of buying. So do they take ALL that meat and toss it in the trash after a week? Cause its only in a cooler not a freezer. I thought maybe they put it in a freezer at night then back out in the morning but that would both be bad for the food and Im there at opening and its not frozen. Seems very wasteful if this goes on year after year. So many people and children go hungry and stores and restaurants tossing food each day.

When I drive to my parents' house, there's a similar intersection: you take a left from the main street to a smaller street, and there's a right turn into a gas station and a strip mall right away. I always have to guess whether the guy in front of me will decide at the last possible moment that he wants to turn into the gas station. I don't take that turn so quickly that I wouldn't be able to brake, but I can't exactly vouch the same for the car behind me. I just try to avoid that intersection whenever possible.

Stores know how much meat the sell per day and per week. They buy the correct amount so that by the time the meat is a day or two away from expiring, it is sold and newer meat is on the shelf. Some is wasted, but the stores try not to let that happen, as that is money in the trash, too.

I was always taught you only freeze meat once. I don't know why. Something to do with crystallizing and moisture changes. That said, all of the markets by me with a fresh meat department have a staff well paid meat cutters and it's rare they overstock a meat section and have a ton of meat left at the end of the day. Popular stuff, like burger is not uncommon to see "out" by 20:00 in the evening, which sucks for regular evening shoppers, I imagine. I pretty much write off the idea of getting fresh meat if I am forced to get groceries at 21:00.

Most people think they are good drivers. Having had few if any accidents does not make you a good driver. If you can do the fancy moves of the stunt driver you can be called a good driver.

I banged on the mower's blade adapter for 20 minutes and pried with 2 hammers. It refused to budge even a little. No idea how Ill get that off. I was thinking a gear puller but the engine shaft is way up in the adapter so a gear puller would simply be pulling against itself and do nothing. I didn't want to hammer on it too much and bend the shaft. In this case a straight shaft is better than a curved shaft. I have the new adapter ready to put on too. This old one is smoothed down do bad the blade can simply spin on it if its in high or tough grass. Nothing to hold the blade in line.

EDIT: Was thinking I could put the old bolt into the hole to brace the puller with. Not screw it in just sit it in there. Hmmm may work. Still need to find a cheap puller.

Oh fuck me. Ive spent $40 between parts and tools to get this blade adapter off and replaced and the damn shaft seems wrong! Argh. I finally got it off but the new part wont fit. Looking at them the old part and the new part are the same part but someone chiseled the key off the old part. Wondering why I look at the engine shaft. Well f me it isn't the right shaft for this mower. The parts and model of the mower all match but for some reason the shaft is different. Someone maybe replaced it with the wrong one or something. Now I dont know where I stand. Got parts but no mower. I suppose I could try hammering the part on to shit engineer it like the old part. Or put the old part back on. But that isn't safe and doesn't solve my problem. Ill see if I can snap some pics of it all.

BTW the adapter is part #753-0609 and the mower itself is model 12A-979062

Ok here is a pic of the new and old part. Same part just the metal shaft key is missing from the old one. Looking at the shaft pic you can see theres no grove for it to slide in....never seen one like this. Its not supposed to be like that. Ill see if I can find a video of how its supposed to look.

Ok this video shows the shaft that should be on it. Now I have no option but to hammer on the old part again ...that blade will spin...dangerous as hell. Its hard to see the grove but its on the other side from the viewing angle.

Looking REALLY close with a magnifying glass I swear it looks like that shaft had its own built in key on it and someone filed it down. If so that means they filed that one down and the adapter down then put two non matching parts together.. Im hosed if so. Ill just have to try and force parts on and hope my legs dont get cut off when it flys apart.

The beautiful thing about Repair Clinic, they are about five miles from my house and most of those miles are up Michigan Ave which is very easy drive.

I got nothing on lawn mower repair. I broke down and got a new one last year when the old one began to piss me off too much and found me spending more time maintaining it than I spent mowing. I think my new rule is, evaluate a new purchase the first time you have to replace the spark plug, because it's all downhill from there. Funny thing about bumps and small engine vibrations and dirt and grass. The combine to eventually make everything either fall apart or rust in place and taking it apart and fitting stuff back together ain't easy.

As for the mower, screw it. I took a hammer and screwdriver and knocked out what I could of the old flywheel key then hammered on the new part, sharpened the blade, then tightened it all down really tight. If it kills me you guys can tell me you told me so.

Next time I need to see about that fuel primer bulb. Some duct tape and crazy glue might work.

Last year I had to replace the pull starter cord for the second time. This time I botched the disassembly and had to replace a part after the spring went sproing. Even after getting the replacement part putting it back together in working order was hairy. I ended up spending $50 and an embarrassing number of hours.

As a rule, I've learned to call in professionals rather than try to MacGuyver repairs myself, but the mower was a special case. It being 30 years old, I didn't want to spend the $100 or so to fix it properly -- it's a rusty rattletrap that needs some additional TLC. And me being 63 years old, I didn't want to buy a new mower that will outlive me. For all that I broke my rule, my repair misadventure ended well enough. I should get a few more years out of the old Craftsman -- which, btw, still starts up on the first pull every spring.

In Dae's situation I would've taken my mower down to the gas station that does my car repairs, and they would've used their air wrench to make short work of that stuck bolt, probably free of charge. Then I would've bungled the next step and ended up going to the small engine shop where I should've gone in the first place.

Damn it, I hit one of the two buttons on my mouse that messes with the DPI, and now I can't find the setting I usually use and nothing feels right. Thank goodness Logitech allows me to switch between 15 presets at a moment's notice, because that's something more than 0.01% of their userbase requires.

My mouse has that same change on the fly button, but has LED features that change depending on the DPI. I have no idea what I run at, but know that I like blue lighting the best.

I usually go in and just remove the settings for every sensitivity except the one I use. I understand why some people use them (medium sensitivity for shooters, low sensitivity for sniping, high sensitivity for 3rd person games, variable sensitivity for art programs, etc), but I prefer a consistent sensitivity through everything. I find that doing so keeps my reflexes in games consistent.

My sensitivity is one revolution/22cm, btw. That translates differently on different mice, but 1/22 is a guaranteed way to set it in any game.

My mouse is a Logitech and has those buttons right above the back and forward thumb buttons so Im always hitting them and messing with my sensitivity. Lucky it has little led lights and I know mine. But I swear sometimes even with the lights right it feels wrong and takes a little time to feel used to again. Hate it.

As for pull strings on mowers. Back in the early 90s when I was in my early 20s and had tools I repaired mowers and engines. Was no problem then. But pull ropes were something I never got right. I could get them working fine but I always ended up with about and inch or two of slack at the pull end no matter how well I put them back together.

Im cooking my new and improved french dip casserole as we speak. I nearly doubled the french dip, added shredded cheddar cheese, and seasoned the beef with taco seasoning. If the mixed taste is what the baked taste comes out like I nailed it.

And my knuckles I busted on the lawn mower hurt like hell under hot water.

Looks like if I want that old brake fluid off the car Ill have to save up and get it detailed at some shop. Im sure its brake fluid as a few years ago the front brake blew apart. Wasn't long after that that side of the car turned a slight orange like color. Feeling of it it is rough to the touch. And from what Ive read brake fluid will ruin the paint. But I can scratch it off with a fingernail and the paint seems fine under it. It just wont wash off. I got some rubbing compound and tested it. It takes it off but it also took off a layer of paint on the plastic vent I tried it on. The paint part it seems to work semi ok and not hurt the paint but I cant do that entire side by hand. Just cant do it. I figure a detailer will have the right compounds plus a tool for it...like a buffer. Not sure what they charge but will try and save. If there are a second stimulus which I dont see happening then I could use some of that.
