Apparently she's Gov. Gavin Newsom's ex-wife...I had no idea.Unagi wrote: Tue Aug 25, 2020 11:56 am I'm honestly frightened by the idea that some people out there see her, and hear her, and don't recoil.

I got a donation solicitation from McSally (I live in WA). I sent it back with a fake Chinese $100 bill.YellowKing wrote: Tue Aug 25, 2020 10:59 amYeah I wound up just tossing it in the garbage because I was afraid responding (even negatively) would put me on some kind of mass mailing list.raydude wrote:I received a survey/request for donation from the RNC a year ago. Guilfoyle studied at University of California, Davis and the University of San Francisco and was a prosecuting attorney in San Francisco and Los Angeles, California. She served as an Assistant District Attorney in San Francisco from 2000 to 2004. Guilfoyle married Democratic politician and future California Governor Gavin Newsom and was First Lady of San Francisco during Newsom's first two years as mayor of that city. A member of the Republican Party, she has since become the partner of Donald Trump Jr. since 2018.
She worked at Fox News from 2006 to 2018 and co-hosted The Five on the network.
Do you know specifically what that piece is? Honestly asking for a friend.$iljanus wrote: Tue Aug 25, 2020 2:18 pmNow that gets the blood flowing and fills you with some of that good ol’ Sturm und Drang.
BREAKING: Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s decision to speak at the RNC tonight is now under investigation by the House. The subpanel on oversight informed the State Department today in a letter obtained by @NBCNews, after the committee obtained internal State Department legal guidance that explicitly prohibited Senate- confirmed presidential appointees from even attending political conventions. The subcommittee’s chairman, Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, says the speech is not only “highly unusual and likely unprecedented” but that “it appears that it may also be illegal.” Reporting per @JoshNBCNews

You've made this point a couple of times today. Wouldn't it be more of a failure to not do anything than do something you know will have no consequences. Personally, I prefer they continue to follow the rule of law even it it ultimately proves pointless.YellowKing wrote: Tue Aug 25, 2020 4:40 pm Oooh, if this has the same repercussions as all other House investigations, Mike Pompeo is in for one heck of a finger wagging!

There is a downside to fighting battles you were doomed to lose from the start- you look weak and also you look like you make wrong choices. That undercuts any future efforts to take action. The Trump administration is chipping away precisely because they know they have people in control of critical parts of the government, the parts that would otherwise stop them from doing what they want. They aren't gambling and taking chances, they already know what the results will be. The more that they try to take down Trump or his people and fail, the harder it will be next time to try and stop him. The only way is to vote out not just him, but his support as well. The entire apparatus that made his Presidency possible needs to be dismantled or more Trumps will just pop up again like weeds growing in your garden.Alefroth wrote: Tue Aug 25, 2020 4:43 pmYou've made this point a couple of times today. I'm not saying don't investigate and don't hold hearings. I'm saying laws need to be changed (if necessary) to put some teeth behind oversight committees and investigations. It's a call to arms.Alefroth wrote:You've made this point a couple of times today. Wouldn't it be more of a failure to not do anything than do something you know will have no consequences. That might be true for any number of things, but I don't think it applies to public service. If there are elected or appointed officials that are acting capriciously, with malfeasance and/or in any way against the oath of office they've taken, there should be 100% of the time an inquiry. When you don't THAT emboldens these shitheels and the line for what they can get away with is inched slowly away from the norms that have been established.gameoverman wrote: Tue Aug 25, 2020 6:11 pm There is a downside to fighting battles you were doomed to lose from the start- you look weak and also you look like you make wrong choices. I’d be curious too. It’s a catchy tune, perfect for occasions when tanks are going into Poland or Nazgul are flying towards Minas Tirith.
Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host and current Trump campaign senior adviser, gave a bizarre, almost militaristically enthusiastic speech Monday night, the first night of the Republican National Convention. It was so deliriously pitched, intoned with such fervor, that it rivaled propaganda more commonly associated with state-run television. “President Trump believes in you. He emancipates and lifts you up to live your American Dream!” she boomed, capping a speech that seemed to make way more sense with ominous orchestral music in the background.
So that’s what our producer Mark Helenowski did: He scored it with North Korean propaganda music.

It's really bizarre watching them project. I nearly spit out my drink when she went on a diatribe against people getting all their news from one source. Maybe it was some bit of brilliant subliminal reverse psychology, and she's still fighting this thing from a captive hostage standpoint. I want to believe.
The NYT thinks birthers are undecided voters. It actually explains a lot about their coverage.
I disagree. It's a fair criticism. If someone tells you they buy birtherism now they were probably lying about being undecided in the past. There was no reason for him to turn around and Tweet this. He could have silently thrown away the garbage input. Not all data is worth reporting.ImLawBoy wrote: Wed Aug 26, 2020 1:39 pm That's not really fair. This was someone who had previously ID'd as undecided. Checking back in with the person, it appears they are no longer undecided - they are leaning toward Trump because of stupid birther theories. If the first time the person had been interviewed they were spouting all kinds of birther theories and Trump propaganda, then it's reasonable to say that they weren't really undecided back then. This tweet doesn't present that picture though (and I admit I haven't read through to the story to see if there's more detail).
Agree that it's probably best left thrown out but Harris confirmed as VP is a new development. The person could well have been undecided. Though the fact that they still haven't decided on the veracity of the rumor tells me they either suck at the internets or are purposefully ignorant.malchior wrote: Wed Aug 26, 2020 1:45 pmI disagree. Follow up with them sure. As soon as they said, we heard she isn't a citizen...he should have binned it. It's a garbage outlier. People don't suddenly dive into the birther bin out of nowhere. If he found masses of undecided people suddenly buying into birtherism...well that is indeed a story. At that point you may have accumulated the data to push the idea that folks pretending to be undecided finally feels like they can step into the sunlight. I doubt that was the case here.LawBeefaroni wrote: Wed Aug 26, 2020 1:57 pmAgree that it's probably best left thrown out but Harris confirmed as VP is a new development. Exactly.I still suspect for many, "undecided" usually just means "still searching for a somewhat socially acceptable excuse for going with Trump."
Sure, but unless the reporter is a mind reader (or the person otherwise made it obvious), the person was rightly categorized as "undecided" at the time.malchior wrote: Wed Aug 26, 2020 1:45 pmI disagree. On the other hand, maybe it's good to get a wake up call that a lot of these supposed undecided voters were either being disingenuous in the first place or were merely waiting on a pretense to justify their turn back to Trump. Better than complacency that the election is in the bag for Biden.malchior wrote: There was no reason for him to turn around and Tweet this. He could have silently thrown away the garbage input.
