It means something when you come here and don't hear a single "I hope he gets well soon" from anyone in the crowd.
As satisfying as it would be to watch him suffer and die, I would rather see him suffer and recover in time to be defeated in a landslide, and face prosecution for his crimes. Death is too good for him.

Oh, I hope he fully recovers, but probably for different reasons than other groups wishing the same. The good news is that I can agree with them when they say it , even if our motivations are diametrically opposed.
My rough guess is that Biden is more likely to win the election if Trump lives than if he dies, because Pence does a better impression of a safe, capable president. So in that sense it's better if Trump lives. However, Trump is a fairly unique, direct, and imminent threat to American democracy. I think Pence is materially less likely to destroy democratic institutions, would be materially more likely to respect election results and leave office in due order, etc. So I would at least be marginally less worried about that if Trump died.

Agree with Grif about the scariest possibility here. Trump gets completely incapacitated (remember when B Johnson had it so bad that there were rumors that at one point power was transferred to...the next guy?) and Boom Pence is on the ticket.
Incapacitation gives Pence the reins, but it doesn't put him on the ticket, does it?
Biden should just strut around outside Trump's bedroom window while yelling, "I feel fine...how about you!?!! Ooooh...Biden wears a mask...he's so stupid."
"Funny" story, my wife woke me up at like 5 in the morning telling my about Trump's diagnosis. My brain decided against letting me go back to sleep, instead deciding to play out various nightmare scenarios.
CONGRESS NEEDS TESTING! Not a partisan topic. Mike Lee was with Amy Coney Barrett this week! He was around all of us reporters too! This is crazy
I'd hope at this point the belief that we're just going to test our way out of this is officially dead. Because I'd like to think the PotUS would be the most tested man on the planet, and if the virus got to him then maybe it was his behaviors and choices that put him at risk? Nah, that would be crazy.
I can’t help but think of how things would be if it was reversed.
Biden with virus, Trump tests negative. Pretty sure Trump would broadcast how weak Biden is compared to his own ability to remain healthy.
I am firmly in the camp of "this is a ploy so Trump can personally demonstrate the effectiveness of a Covid cure just in time for the election" And I got to tell you, I have no idea even which of the R&P threads that conversation even belongs in.
Honestly I don't see how this works in his favor at all. He looks like the irresponsible jackass that we all know he is already. Will he come out trouting his wonder drug? Of course he will. Does that really help him with the election? I don't see how. It is a good distraction from all the stuff the Republicans are doing to rob the election though. I don't see anyone talking about what they are doing in PA and Georgia today. That's what I'm worried about.
Capitalism tries for a delicate balance: It attempts to work things out so that everyone gets just enough stuff to keep them from getting violent and trying to take other people’s stuff.

I just got here today, but I'll say that: I hope that Donald and Melania Trump recovers fully and as quickly as is reasonably possible from this disease.
More than that, though, I hope that Joe Biden's negative test today is a sign that he truly wasn't infected by Trump's irresponsible behavior.

Zarathud: The sad thing is that Barak Obama is a very intelligent and articulate person, even when you disagree with his views it's clear that he's very thoughtful. I would have loved to see Obama in a real debate.
Me: Wait 12 years, when he runs for president. :-)

Well darn, since they all got sick at the SCOTUS nom dog and puppy show, it looks like we will have to slow down the process for appointing the new justice. I mean, Lee is a key party for the Rs on judiciary, right?

Holy shit, this better not turn into a partisan proposal to push back election day.
There was an Op-ed in the Independent this morning calling for a delay to the election. You can bet the calls will grow.

You're not going to like the post I just made in the other thread.

That's not a danger, because they would need sign-off from the House to change election day, and that's not happening.
2020, the year with an asterisk. Make no doubt, there will be continued calls to delay.

Okay, if you guys think this won't be an issue, I feel a lot safer now. Thanks for your rational explanations for how the future will definitely proceed.

They can call for it all they like, but it's not going to happen.
So clearly, a drumbeat of loud editorials calling for a delay and ramped up POTUS fear-mongering will have no effect on the election. I mean if we are going to put words in people's mouths and all....

Why would it? People can vote for him even if he has the virus. How does this impact voters? The date of the election is fixed by the Constitution, no?
Edit to add: I’m stoopid. It’s set by statute. By Pelosi sure as shit isn’t delaying anything.

Nothing more than me worried for 2020 going down the darkest timeline and the level of respect I have for folks on that side of the aisle (and how they rile their supporters).
I don't know the mechanism behind some sort of an unconstitutional delay, but wouldn't be surprised if it was because GOP supporters were molotov cocktailing mail pick-ups boxes and voting booths.

!!!!!!!!!! Seriously though PA freaking changed rules so that they could try and give away the votes to Trump. This should be headlines all over the place. It's insane....
