GOP Sen. Ron Johnson tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday. Then he went to an Oktoberfest-themed fundraising dinner.

It's getting harder to argue the elected officials don't accurately reflect the people that elected them. Unreal.

Seriously, going to a Republican event is potentially deadly despite what the Cain Gang's Ouija board says. Nothing says I'm a member of a death cult like reaching in your pocket to get exposed to a deadly disease. FWIW I am seeing some notes that maybe he didn't get the positive result in his hand but instead was awaiting the results. Either way, he knew he shouldn't have gone.

ABC Reporters who were on-air with Christie are quarantining themselves.

Christie, an ABC News political analyst, was on set for ABC News' post-debate coverage Tuesday. Others on set included ABC News correspondent Linsey Davis, former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Democracy for America chief executive Yvette Simpson, and Republican strategist Sara Fagan.

"[Christie] was last in our TV3 studio on Tuesday, and he won't appear in our studio again until he's cleared by a doctor, following guidance from the CDC and local health officials," the ABC spokesperson said. "Anyone on our staff in direct contact with the Governor as defined by the CDC will self-isolate for 14 days. We wish the Governor a speedy recovery."

The ABC spokesperson declined to comment when asked whether anyone on its staff had shown symptoms of coronavirus and whether all staff who came into contact with Christie had received a test by Saturday afternoon.

Christie was at last weekend's Rose Garden ceremony in which President Donald Trump announced his Supreme Court nomination. Christie was also a member of a small circle of individuals who helped prep Trump for the debate. Several individuals from both the Rose Garden event and the debate prep sessions have since tested positive for the coronavirus.

Christie's participation on ABC News' post-debate panel spurred some controversy when it was announced, given that he had helped Trump prepare for the political showdown.

Following his coronavirus diagnosis, some high-profile members of ABC News privately expressed additional anger at what had transpired, according to a person familiar with the matter.

"The decision for ABC News to include a Trump advisor as a paid analyst on air for the same debate for which he prepped the President was questionable," one high-profile ABC News on-air personality told CNN Business on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly. "Now that same advisor's reckless behavior is risking the lives of ABC News employees. What was management thinking?"

In a statement sent to staffers Saturday afternoon, ABC News president James Goldston stressed that the network will continue to take precautions to reduce the risk of coronavirus.

I don't want him to die either, that's just the way I roll. If he were to die, I would be sorry for him and his family no matter what I think of him or them but I personally would not mourn his loss. I would feel relieved that his cancerous and corrupting grasp upon power is gone. He's shown no respect for the office he holds nor any respect for the American people as a whole, no matter what his cult members believe. Live or die, I hope and pray he is gone within the next month or so, and I would be glad to never hear of him again.

If I haven't already said this: I hope he doesn't die (although I won't shed tears if he does) because America is already circling the drain, and we can't handle any more chaos. I want him to lose in a historic landslide and then spend the rest of his life fighting to stay out of prison. But I do hope he suffers enough to know that 208,000 Americans didn't die of a bad cold.

As for your rhetorical question, I read a couple of weeks ago that if the US had demonstrated the same national response as other advanced nations, our death toll should be around 60,000. By that unscientific reckoning he's responsible for 140,000.

I saw the point made earlier that journalists shouldn't fall for calling it a "discharge" when Trump is moved back to the White House.

Walter Reed is a medical facility, but the WH is also a medical facility. "Discharge" carries the connotation of "finished and cured," but Trump moving back to the WH will (unless it is weeks from now) be just a transfer.

Maybe the hoax claims weren't so far off the mark if that's what we're looking at here. The other possibility is he tested positive, freaked the F out and demanded every conceivable treatment available.

The idea that he actually required oxygen and was receiving remdesivir and decadron based on established guidelines, but is now healthy enough to go home, just doesn't wash.

Reading the comments that this is more of a transfer than a 'discharge' is an interesting note. Hadn't considered that. Still even if the facilities at the WH are better than your local urgent care, and I don't doubt that for a second, if your patient is requiring those meds, they're far too sick for anything less than a hospital.
Im guessing the political benefit will be pretty measurable.

Let's be clear here. There has been no transfer. He went around the block and returned to Walter Reed. This was a disgusting, reckless PR stunt that put people's lives in danger. He also encouraged these maskless fucks to think this is no big deal. This is seriously an amazing low moment here for our nation. I'm sick to my stomach.

Yes. It was a short trip around the facility. Those men likely have to quarantine for the next 2 weeks now. It's unimaginable what he just did.

Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader, announced on Saturday that the Senate would not meet as planned next week after three senators tested positive for the virus, but indicated that Republicans would press ahead to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court without delay.

“The Senate’s floor schedule will not interrupt the thorough, fair and historically supported confirmation process previously laid out,” Mr. McConnell, Republican of Kentucky, said in a statement, adding that the Senate Judiciary Committee had “successfully” met with senators appearing both in person and virtually since May.

The announcement comes after three members of Mr. McConnell’s conference, two of them on the Judiciary Committee, have tested positive for the coronavirus in the past 24 hours. Others, like Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma, have tested negative but have gone into quarantine.
