Skinypupy wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2020 10:43 pm Just finished Season 3 of Norsemen. Just as good as the first two, with some absolutely hilarious moments. The war table, the the dragon, and the scrotum whipping all had me rolling. And the ending was perfect.

I may even recommend watching it before seasons 1 and 2. It’s the perfect prequel.
No season 4.
The comedy series Norsemen will not be returning for a fourth season at Netflix as it’s been canceled after three seasons by NRK1 and by extension, Netflix has decided not to pick up the fourth season by itself.

Can we just get, like, some kind of conclusion? A 4 page comic book version or something. I just want closure!

NBC News
Netflix is now facing a criminal charge in the ongoing backlash over “Cuties,” a French film centered around a 11-year-old girl living in Paris who wants to join a local “free-spirited dance crew."

A grand jury indictment for promotion of lewd visual material depicting a child was filed on September 23 in Tyler County, Texas, according to Texas Rep. Matt Schaefer.NBC News obtained a copy of the indictment Tuesday, confirming Schaefer's tweet.

The indictment states that Netflix promoted, distributed and exhibited material which “depicts the lewd exhibition of the genitals or pubic area of a clothed or partially clothed child who was younger than 18 years of age” for the “prurient interest in sex.” It also states that the material held no serious "literary, artistic, political, or scientific value."

I was debating. I usually get some enjoyment out of his movies. But I think I'm going to give this one a pass. Isn't it just Mr. Deeds (nicest person around!) meets The Waterboy (ignorant? developmentally disabled?)? I don't think I could take another movie of him playing a low intelligence/ignorant/clueless person. The ridiculous accent and manor of speech. It just gets annoying really quickly.

His first few films are good. I mean, how many times do we quote the test scene from Billy Madison when we want to say something someone said was really stupid? But man, now he just does it by the numbers so he can keep people like Rob Schneider off welfare.

I've watched the first three episodes of The Haunting of Bly Manor. I don't think it is as good as the first series but I have still very entertained by it. Definitely has a slower pace with less outward scares but the characters threads are interesting and it has a good amount of atmospheric tension.

Yeah I'm about six episodes in and while it isn't quite as scary/creepy as the first series, it definitely has its own appeal. The child actors are again fantastic, as is the acting throughout, and the use of nonlinear storytelling (which I've become annoyed with for how often it is used), is actually very effective here. I'm starting to grasp (I think) where they are headed or heading, but I still feel like there are some big/interesting twists/reveals ahead to piece it all together.

Definitely doesn't have the same scares, but I'm still hooked nonetheless. It's much more suspense than horror this time around.

But she's bringing along Geralt of Rivia and Helena Bonham Carter?

Count me totally in.

That looks fantastic.
Finally watched this over the weekend (Mrs. Kub really doesn't want to watch anything but Shameless lately - we're on s6), and we really enjoyed this.

I had no idea that was eleven! Or Cavill! Or that it was based on an actual tale by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle until the delay due to the Holmes estate lawsuit and even then I didn't remember it from my Sherlock Holmes reading many, many (many!) moons ago. Has me wanting to dig up the story now - I think I have a complete collection on the Kindle somewhere.

The Liberator

Deadline
Producers L.C. Crowley and Brandon Barr and former LucasFilm and Industrial Light & Magic VFX creative Greg Jonkajtys have launched a studio to develop projects in Trioscope, a new hybrid animation technology that combines state-of-the-art CGI with live-action performance.

This comes off the back of Netflix’s The Liberator, the first project produced using the technology, which the trio scored with Die Hard writer Jed Stuart, A+E Studios and Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne’s Unique Features.

Trioscope Studios will develop original drama content and adapt third party IP using its proprietary animation technology.
...
Trioscope reinvents the way animation is produced; it uses human performances with animated environments to bring photo-real quality to human faces character movement and action to animation.

Trioscope is currently in production on Netflix’s forthcoming World War II animated drama series The Liberator. Written by Jeb Stuart and directed by Jonkajtys and produced by A&E Studios and Unique Features, it is based on Alex Kershaw’s book The Liberator: One World War II Soldier’s 500-Day Odyssey and tells the riveting true story of the bloodiest and most dramatic march to victory of the Second World War: the battlefield odyssey of maverick U.S. Army officer Felix Sparks and his infantry unit as they fought for over 500 days to liberate Europe.

Trioscope has also already partnered with Hulu, Dark Horse Comics, Oni Press and Unique Features on other projects.
I look forward to their remakes of Wizards and The Lord of the Rings.

It's nice that the dialog isn't in english with different accents for the Romans and barbarians.

We fired it up as a "Halloween Movie"

7 minutes in, the wife turns to me "I liked Adam Sandler in The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates. What happened to him?" Me, "He found his audience and likes to play an idiot. The same idiot every time." Her, "Oh." <turns it off>

I think you made it further than we did.

It's common knowledge that the Romans spoke English with a British accent.

I have no idea. It's a German production by a French corporation filmed in Hungary.
