Hopefully with no need to support a President who has become a black sheep, and with no looming election, his support among the party will wane as they start looking at their image for 2022 and beyond.Paingod wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 3:22 pmLet's all sit back and imagine what his cultists will do for the next three months after his loss. Re: Trump vs. Biden - the Final Showdown
I have a feeling that if Trump loses, he'll all but disappear from politics. Sure, he'll still post the daily "You should have voted for me!" diatribes, but as for power in Washington? He won't have any himself. Some candidates might invoke his name in states where he did especially well, but I suspect that will actually diminish not long after he leaves office.
No, I truly believe that if he loses, we're going to see a lot of bigger names essentially disavowing him both directly and indirectly.

I'm streaming WMOT (roots music) so I have "noise" without hearing any of the fear/hype/crazy election "coverage". My plan is also to dive into work for a few days and emerge to find out who's brand of crazy won out. Trump just dropped another *off the wall* propaganda EO. This one is clearly pushing back on the 1619 project. "Promoting Patriotic Education". GTFO with this totalitarian shit.

Nothingburger. I saw some Trump ads during football (before I could kill the sound) that are trying to paint Biden as a racist (he looked about 27). Ouch! There goes the Black vote...

I sacrificed my ballot to science. Mailed the 28, arrived the 30th, got notification that it was "being accepted" on the 30th.Octavious wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 2:11 pm I'm so glad I was able to just drop off my ballet in a box. This is the first time I could have been an absentee voter in a general, the first time presidential election I've ever missed, and from where I sit the most important election of my lifetime. I'm very unhappy with myself for not making time to go on Friday. Despair, narcotics, and pain that breaks through are not a good combo. I'm so sorry to everyone.Zaxxon wrote: Tue Nov 03, 2020 9:39 amOn the one hand I say feel better. I'm strangely sanguine about this. Some of it comes down to my belief we won't know much today and also just that today is the beginning of the next phase in whatever happens with Trump.Unagi wrote: Tue Nov 03, 2020 10:59 am It's hard to grasp that this day is finally on us.

I'm not as nervous about the election, as I am about 'people' in the next 48 hours...
For the country, we need this to be such a massive landslide - for so many reasons.
Maybe 'nervous' isn't even the word for it - I am 'massively impatient' right now.
So - I need to go get my mind on something else for the majority of the day....

Fair enough. Never mean to scare but more informed is better in my book. Knowing the risks are severe but unlikely helps a lot. I'm taking it seriously but don't think worst case is likely and the last few days cemented that. That doesn't mean it isn't going to be bumpy but we were never the ones truly facing those risks tbh. I was worried for others and that is diminishing.Unagi wrote: Tue Nov 03, 2020 11:10 amlolmalchior wrote: Tue Nov 03, 2020 11:05 amI'm strangely sanguine about this. Re: Trump vs. Biden - the Final Showdown
I'm feeling pretty confident. I've read enough poll analysis to know that if the data we have now is wrong, then we will never be able to trust polling data ever again. My gut feeling is landslide (or close enough to one), and we'll have a good idea late tonight which way the wind is blowing.
I'm not terribly concerned about Trump supporter backlash. I think most of these people are all talk, and they'll retreat back to their holes and wait for 2024.
While I can't fully embrace it until after we know the results, I also feel an undercurrent of relief and hope. I'm already looking forward to a Biden administration, a new plan to tackle covid, etc. I can't bring myself to even think about the alternative.

Fortunately work is absolutely insane today so I can't pay attention to much else (posting here while waiting for a meeting host to start the call). On the way home I'll be picking up a case of Guinness cans and have a conference call scheduled for 10pm to discuss/watch/pretend we're in a bar with some friends.
