I've lived up here 25 years and have never had a trick or treater. Of course we leave the porch light off but even so there are not many kids up here and houses are few and far apart.
The first few years we kept a bag of candy just in case.
Now I keep a shotgun.

My pole saw has started annoying me(insert joke here).

Its clean, oiled, and Ive tightened the bar bolt down as tight as I can without breaking or stripping it(insert joke here)

After about 10 cuts when Im in the middle of the work the bar will loosen to the point the chain comes off. Then I have to stop and take it apart and fix it. After that im too annoyed and/or tired to do more. So thats a day.

I got it back in March when it was on a super sale and just started using it a few weeks ago for reals. I got it at Home Depot. im sure I have the receipt somewhere too. Im wondering if I complain if I can trade it in and pay a little more for a better one. This 10 cuts crap isn't cutting it..get it?

A lock washer might fix it. Usually a $0.50 part or less.

Not in this pandemic they won't. For the past several years we've had record low turnouts over here, and I predict getting none this year.

Made some peanut butter balls. Haven't made a batch in a decade probably. I didn't have any coconut or chocolate for them though. At first I made them too wet then I made them a bit dry. I gave up and started eating. Tasty.

apparently they make good pets (for insects, that is)

i live in a 'no pets' apartment - it says so on the lease - but i wonder if a caged giant bug would be ok.

This is gaming peripheral, but I decided to stick it in here. Tonight was my son's Halloween concert. He and his friend had coordinated game-inspired costumes:

ugh only about 3 hours left until dark. I looked out last night at 6:09 and it was darker than in the summer at 9:30. Between the season change and time fall back we've lost nearly 3 1/2 hours of daylight.

I held it all in, if for no other reason than I had a six-year-old in the back seat, and I didn't want to embarrass myself. I managed to get to a wide median at an exit ramp and change the tire there (I love having a full size spare!), so I modeled being a good dad.

I was a teen, but I think I was never more impressed with my Dad's cool than when he handled this highway emergency:

We were traveling at speed on I-20 between Birmingham and Atlanta when we topped a rise and realized almost without enough warning that an accident had stopped all traffic and blocked up the lanes. Dad hit the brakes and we barely avoided skidding into the car ahead of us.

That wasn't the emergency. What happened next is that a car topped the same rise behind us and wasn't as good at stopping in time. We knew we were about to be hit, so Dad turned the wheel left (aiming us towards the grassy median) *and* popped it into neutral.

The car hit us from behind, but instead of taking the full force or being thrown into the car ahead of us, we got hurled into the median and rolled until stopping. Our rear bumper was destroyed, but without that quick thinking we probably both would have been smashed between the vehicle slamming up from behind and the car ahead.

1. Never heard of BTC...unless its bitcoin.

2. Im disappointed that "Russia's 'Sausage King'" has nothing to do with the leader of a Russian gay porn ring.

3. The 80s decade Trans-Am was notoriously light in the rear and would lose traction if you sneezed in the rain. We were on I-75 and topped a rise when we saw traffic was stopped ahead a ways down the rise. I touched the brakes and it instantly went into sliding. Luckily it went into a straight slide. I glanced right to change lanes and let off the brakes but another car was there. We both watched as this car slowly passed us and we were sliding. We finally stopped about 2 car lengths from the stopped end of the line. It sorta felt like a comedy movie to be sliding down the highway and glace over to see a car pass us and not even take a look at us.

More about the Resident Evil reboot filming in town. They've got a fairly cool looking set outside, and there are a lot of industry trailers everywhere. This is a big deal for us as it's the first big budget hollywood movie to film here, but we've been slowly building up the industry over the last 15 years.

I called Charter about getting a promotion for my internet. You have to go 3 months without one or any changes to get one. They offered me a choice of 2. I could stay at 100/10 and save $14 so $54 a month OR stay at $69 a month and go to 400/20. I chose to speed up. I just tested it and its testing at 460/23.

They also said its good for 12 months and after that it goes up by $10 for 12 more months at which time it goes up another $10 to the normal price of $89 a month. So if I forget to slow it down or get another promotion after 12 months I get some leeway there until it dawns on me.
