Youtube and YTTV were both offline from roughly 7-8 p.m. tonight. That's when we sat down to eat dinner and watch Schitt's Creek. I figured out that other streaming channels were working and only YTTV (which brings most of our regular viewing) was munged, so we watched a DVD episode of Orange is the New Black instead, then got our Schitt's fix after that.

Orange is intense and depressing, so I always like to follow it with comedy.

Anyway, the tear in the matrix was quickly repaired.

Before 9/11 going to Point Roberts, WA was no big deal and a lot people went for fun day trip. Many people own property and go there on weekends as well. There is an elementary school but no high school. The kids take a bus/ferry I think to the mainland.

Post 9/11 it became a real hassle to go so a lot of people stopped. It's become a bit easier with a NEXUS pass but it's not the same as it used to be.

Now with COVID you can't drive across the border unless you are part of an essential service so all those houses and sit empty. The businesses on Point Roberts took a massive beating with no Canadians there this summer and I'm not sure if the economy there will ever recover.

Almost certainly of interest only to me:

This is the kind of strange sh*t that happens when your city's subway system was cobbled together from three separate competing networks. Lines that don't connect in logical ways, subway cars of different widths for different lines, stops that are weirdly close together, etc.

For some reason its one of those 80s songs that transports me back there instantly. I have that warm happy feeling that some music reminds me of.
