I really don't want to pay full AAA price for a game I might not play for a year or more anyway.

Finished Witcher 3 think in 2017. Still have the DLC to play just sitting there. I saved my save dir so I can install and move it over...if it all goes well.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 from the makers of The Witcher
Stalled on The Witcher three times. Did make it further the last time with the aid of a walkthru to keep me on track. I think I made it to Chapter 5, or maybe only 3. Felt like a ways through the game. But since I had only just started picking up Silver(?) skills, I suspect I still had a long ways to go.Isgrimnur wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 1:16 pmI still haven't gone halfway through The Witcher.Holman wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 10:47 amI still haven't gone halfway through The Witcher 3!gbasden wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 3:31 amA year or more? I've looked at the Witcher 3 title in my Steam list a number of times. Does that count?

This is why I bought it and specifically got it on GOG.Smoove_B wrote: Sat Dec 05, 2020 7:07 pm Yes, that's something I keep coming back to. Might be better to just continue to chip away at my backlog and let this go through a few rounds of patches, fixes and optimizations before considering it late winter / early spring. That being said, the developers deserve recognition for W3 and I would kinda like to at least support them on Day 0 for being such champions of PC gaming.
As to launch day, I just resigned from my job and won't be starting the new one until the 21st. My present employer has asked me to send in my gear this coming week so guess I'm off the hook to jump into this.

i'll be running it at 1280x1024 on a GTX 970Booting up Cyberpunk 2077 with the 6 year old GeForce GTX 970 4GB looks like it will return a reliable 61 FPS. And those results are assuming a 1920x1080 screen resolution at High setting level.
Although Ultra 1440p might be a bit too much for this GPU, it would return 46 FPS on High graphics setting.

I rarely pre-order things, and in this case I probably won't. There's no real bonus to it AFAIC. I don't really want any of the Steam things (the short story might be interesting), and besides I don't yet have the computer to play it with High settings on my new-ish 3440x1440 monitor. I working on updating my computer but it certainly won't be available on launch day.hitbyambulance wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 5:33 pmi had never pre-ordered a title in my life until this one, for exactly this reason (and also purchased it on GOG so they'd get all the proceeds)i'll be running it at 1280x1024 on a GTX 970Booting up Cyberpunk 2077 with the 6 year old GeForce GTX 970 4GB looks like it will return a reliable 61 FPS. I will definitely buy it on GOG, though. I got so much value from Witcher 3, both in terms of enjoyment and $/hour, that CDPR have earned that.

I was planning on picking this up for Xbox X, but with the way my kids hog the console there's no way I'm getting through this beast of a game unless I get it on PC. Thankfully it looks like my rig will run it OK. Also plan on ordering through GOG to support the devs.

I preordered the Xbox version. I'll sacrifice some visuals for the comfort of couch gaming. Especially with a game that promises me hundreds of hours of play time.

Gene Park reviews the game at WaPo.
His overall impression is positive, but says that he received the game so late that he had time only to run through the main plot (15 hours). There's a lot of the game he knows he didn't see, but his overall impression is that it is a stylish, rich, well-realized world that is currently very glitchy and with somewhat "janky" AI.
Oh, and the Keanu Reeves stuff is all excellent.

Can't believe that's true. Eurogamer update says he is 40 hours in and has a long way to go and hasn't really done side quests, yet this guy is saying 15 hours. Also Eurogamer saying buggy but not had the massive day one patch yet just some of it.

I would think a game like this that the main story alone would be MUCH longer. throw in side quests and Im thinking 100+ hours.

Read the gamespot review. Much like the Eurogamer preview it looks like what they played was a buggy mess. There is a day one patch. The Gamespot reviewer thought it highly unlikely that the patch will fix all the issues. The review says Reeves is awesome in it. I will be intrigued to read more about it. I can hardly motivate myself to play anything now so have no plans to buy it soon.

I think it will be an amazing game when I get a PS5 in 2021! Until then I'm not buying any of the big console titles so companies better get busy patching.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 from the makers of The Witcher
I just read the PCGamesN review. He mentions a 49GB day zero patch with the sense that he's playing the post-patched game. It's not a very positive review in a lot of respects, but he still gives the game a nine, which I assume is out of ten. Well, maybe I tell myself how by pre-ordering I'm helping out CD Projekt Red, but there are a lot of issues he mentions I'm not thrilled about.

Anyone see this? You can pre-load Cyberpunk 2077 right now but if you try to play early Johnny gives you a scolding
Folks who have pre-loaded the game on their machines may be delighted to see that you can in fact press “play” once it’s done. Alas, you’re only in store for a scold from Johnny Silverhand until the game is properly out.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 from the makers of The Witcher
Somebody might soon have an upgraded rig to play the game, according to PC Gamer... Over $300,000 worth of RTX 3090s were stolen out of a factory in China
I'm fairly certain that 'massive RTX 3090 heist' was not on your 2020 Bingo card. Our friends at Tom's Hardware originally reported that 40 cargo boxes containing RTX 3090s were stolen this morning from an MSI factory in China in what sounds like a GTA Online-esque heist.
The stolen goods (which are valued at around $336,500) consist of roughly over 200 hard-to-find RTX 3090 graphics cards. For context, the MSRP for the RTX 3090 is around $1,500 but due to the low stock and high demand, we've seen them being sold for well over $2,000 on various auction sites.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 from the makers of The Witcher
I'm excited to play the game, but not at the cost of enjoyment. If The Witcher 3 was "good" at launch but "excellent" after 6 months and a couple DLC's, that's probably where I'll start unless I get a wild itch to play. So my plan, as it stands, is to keep enjoying Factorio, Battle Brothers, and my backlog for a bit.

Yeah, I'm starting to back off my initial excitement after reading about the issues. I also know if I get Cyberpunk, I'll never go back and finish AC: Valhalla, so I'm kind of using those issues as another excuse to maybe hold off a bit. Heck, I still need to finish Watch Dogs: Legion as well. Ugh.Paingod wrote:So my plan, as it stands, is to keep enjoying Factorio, Battle Brothers, and my backlog for a bit.

I'm a huge fan of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, but Valhalla isn't grabbing me like I hoped it would. I think I'm enjoying God of War more on the ps4, to be honest. So I'll have no issue jumping into Cyberpunk 2077 on release and setting Valhalla aside for a while.

Bugs or not I'm diving face first into this the moment it unlocks. I played the original Cyberpunk RPG back in the 80s and I love the world and the setting. I've been waiting for this game forever, it feels, and I'm not going to make it one more day, much less another month or more to try it out. Besides, if it's like Witcher 3, I'll end up playing it again down the line once it's fully patched.

Heck, I don't even like cyberpunk as a setting, to be honest. But what I do trust is that the makers of the Witcher series are masters at creating computer RPGs. Witcher 3 is still in my list of greatest games ever made years after its release.

As I posted over in the WDL thread, I finished that game in about 35 hours without really rushing. Unlike some open world games I'd say that the main campaign of WDL is pretty much the primary draw of the game and except for the recruitment missions there wasn't really much else to do. I'm hoping that there is are a lot of side quests in 2077 to keep me interested.YellowKing wrote: Mon Dec 07, 2020 5:10 pm Heck, I still need to finish Watch Dogs: Legion as well. Ugh.

Me too, or rather I was a big fan of Origins, somewhat excited about Odyssey, but I've been finding Valhalla to be rather dry. I wish there was a lot more depth to the side missions. I'm hoping 2077 has a lot of these fun side things to do.hepcat wrote: Mon Dec 07, 2020 5:13 pm I'm a huge fan of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, but Valhalla isn't grabbing me like I hoped it would.
As hepcat mentioned, I'm not really a Cyberpunk fan either, but I like open world games. I've never had enough interest in its setting to want to pick up The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but with all this talk about it I'm getting closer and closer to thinking about picking it up on the next Steam or GOG sale.
