Witcher 3 should be on every rpg lover's best of list. The stories you'll encounter are superb. Some of the best writing you'll ever experience. And that there are literally hundreds of them is astounding.

You can get the full Witcher 3 experience pretty cheaply these days: completely patched, all DLC, lots of goodies.jztemple2 wrote: Mon Dec 07, 2020 6:05 pmMe too, or rather I was a big fan of Origins, somewhat excited about Odyssey, but I've been finding Valhalla to be rather dry. I wish there was a lot more depth to the side missions. I'm hoping 2077 has a lot of these fun side things to do.hepcat wrote: Mon Dec 07, 2020 5:13 pm I'm a huge fan of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, but Valhalla isn't grabbing me like I hoped it would.
As hepcat mentioned, I'm not really a Cyberpunk fan either, but I like open world games. I've never had enough interest in its setting to want to pick up The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but with all this talk about it I'm getting closer and closer to thinking about picking it up on the next Steam or GOG sale.
I'm gonna go that way with C2077. If it's still considered great when the first big DLC appears, I'll dive in then.
Much prefer my Nazis Nuremberged.

It's still the game I hold all others two. After finishing the first DLC this summer, it only reinforced just how awesome it is. I can understand it's not for everyone, but to not even have tried it is unthinkable; it's a love-letter to PC gaming.hepcat wrote: Mon Dec 07, 2020 6:31 pm Witcher 3 should be on every rpg lover's best of list. Almost makes me wish I spoke polish natively so I could play the series through in the language it was made in. Sort of like playing through Stalker in Russian - the jokes and puns and general writing just don’t come through the same way after translation.

It is also possible that the game is going to be buggy and clunky until CDPR releases an Enhanced Edition one year later. Since it'll be free to existing owners of the non Enhanced Edition, gamers are going to praise CDPR.Daehawk wrote: Mon Dec 07, 2020 11:24 am If you hold out long enough you can get the GotY Edition at a better price than the game alone.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 from the makers of The Witcher
From PC Gamer, How buggy is Cyberpunk 2077, really?
It's review day for Cyberpunk 2077, and one of the early points of consensus among major outlets is that the game is buggy. Just how much those bugs get in the way of the experience is in the eye of the bug-holder, however.
Our own Cyberpunk 2077 review outlines a dazzling futuristic world interrupted by immersion-busting scripting errors, broken elevators, and audio glitches, issues we continued to see even after CD Projekt provided a 50GB "Day 0 patch." CD Projekt clarified with us today that this update included "some but not all of the patch and fixes people will experience when the game launches," so an unknown amount of additional fixes are seemingly on the way. There's no doubt that CD Projekt will continue to patch the game after release, as reflected in our verdict.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 from the makers of The Witcher
Seem like it is better to wait for several months and patches before getting or playing this game:
https://www.pcgamer.com/how-buggy-is-cy ... 77-really/
https://www.pcgamer.com/how-buggy-is-cy ... 77-really/
Here's a condensed list of the issues I saw that I'd call "game-breaking":
Various NPC scripting errors, waiting for a character to initiate dialogue, move to a new location, etc. in order for the mission to progress
UI elements don't disappear without quitting to main menu, eg weapon crosshairs, item pickup notifications, bespoke UI elements from braindance sequences
Unable sprint or jump without loading last save
Stuck on geometry mid-mission, can't climb out and forced to reload last save
Elevator UI not loading
Elevator door not opening
Enemies spawning within solid objects and behind impassable surfaces, forcing a reload
FOV stuck at zoom level after some cutscenes, forcing a reload
Unable to change weapons in inventory without reloading previous save
Children spawning in front of a shooting gallery cowering and screaming and also making it impossible to partake in the shooting gallery—V automatically lifts their gun around kids
And the non-critical issues I saw:
ars spawning in the path of/space occupied by player and NPC driven vehicles
Scanner filter stuck on during cutscene
Characters walking through solid elevator doors
Characters losing pose - sitting in a chair then snapping to a standing position, often intersecting with chairs and nearby surfaces
Objects not loading in - invisible guitars, floating streetlights, invisible characters (guy with his arm wrapped around nothing)
Cars screeching throughout the entire length of a drive as passenger w/NPCs
Relic error sound effect looping until reloading last save
Dialogue timing errors - characters talking over each other or repeating lines while prior line still finishing
Weird physics bugs - being punted 100 yards after brushing up against an NPC.
Physics objects behaving erratically - a cart three times the size of a child hooked on their leg as they walk around dragging it behind them, floating NPCs, cars
Odd object duplication - A cigarette floating in front of my face while Johnny Silverhand smokes another during a cutscene
NPC vehicle pathing errors - Cars following a route perpetually leading them through a solid surface
Distant surfaces flickering, most often large ads and skyscrapers
Vehicles getting stuck on flat surfaces, like their wheels are clipping inches below the ground
Long pauses and hitching while loading next scene in quests
Buggy cloth physics on NPC in cutscene, a robe intersecting with body and billowing upward
After failing an action sequence and reloading, I spawned in the drivers seat where Panam was sitting and stared at the back of her eyeballs and tongue through the trip
Sometimes while driving V enters a T-pose and clips through the vehicle's roof, flickering between fully dressed and nude (no arms)

The reviews make me really want to play the game 6 months from now. I will definitely wait until the game has been patched several times and is as close to what the devs intended as possible. Besides it will give me time to clear out my back log before I sink 100+ hours into it.

I was kinda expecting that overwhelming praise would make me pull the trigger on this one, even though I'm not a huge a fan of either cyberpunk or open world games. After reading Kotaku's review in progress last night, I think I'll continue to stay away.
As others have said, it might be something worth visiting down the road at some point, but it doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy very much, regardless of how much I liked Witcher 3.
Hell, just this screenshot alone is enough to keep me away.

Warning: apparently the game has some pretty frequent seizure inducing flashes of lights (when entering a bar, when putting on some headset, etc.) if you're prone to those things.

Really? This kind of screenshot makes me want to play the game because there is so much out there to see and explore. It's one of my gripes about AC Valhalla, for such a big map there's not that much to see or do.Skinypupy wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 9:58 am Hell, just this screenshot alone is enough to keep me away.

Speaking of breaking your brain, I don't know if we have anyone with epilepsy in the forums, but watch out if you do:
https://twitter.com/theepictheymer/stat ... 7715972098
tl;dr is that the game apparently has a sequence that's specifically designed to trigger an epileptic seizure. It's natural to have your bullshit meters going off about stuff like this these days, but it did in fact already induce a seizure for a reviewer.

I suppose we should all fear the "Smell-O-Vision" DLC.
Seriously, though, modeling a part of your game off a piece of equipment designed to cause seizures, knowing flashing lights can trigger seizures, isn't very cool.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 from the makers of The Witcher
If my decades of PC gaming have taught me anything its that the bug problems of any new release will be greatly exaggerated. And the more anticipated the game, the more shrill the outcry will be. MSFS 2020 was probably the most recent example of a game I played and put 40+ hours in with no real problems, only to go online and read constant messages about what a broken and unplayable mess it was.
I don't doubt that Cyberpunk 2077 will release with lots of bugs, but I haven't read anything yet that makes me think I won't enjoy the game from the very beginning.

My gaming backlog stretches, as usual, into infinity. So I don't feel bad letting a bunch of other people do some release-testing for me so that when I do buy this game (and I fully intend to, it's too cool to pass up) it's nice and polished and has all the extra "free" content.

As an Ubisoft fan, that screenshot map above triggers me to reach for my wallet. I like nothing more than to clear a map filled with dozens of things to collect. Sometimes I worry about myself, as my logical brain knows it is tedious busy work, but I find it oh so satisfying.

This is where I am. I've even battled through the many, many bugs in MSFS 2020. I've shelved it a couple of times and just monitored discord/threads until they fixed critical bugs that truly made it unplayable. And if it is really so bad it'll likely be fine in a few weeks as the bug reports come in and they can prioritize based on mass feedback.I don't doubt that Cyberpunk 2077 will release with lots of bugs, but I haven't read anything yet that makes me think I won't enjoy the game from the very beginning.

Anyone else seeing a weird behavior after downloading the game on Steam? On the downloads page it keeps showing an update. Whether you manually select the download to start or it happens by timer, it seems to download nothing and then queues to do another download five minutes later. Rinse and repeat. I don't recall seeing this before.

Seriously. The only way anyone could think MSFS has been perfectly fine all along is if they only fly GA aircraft and never use autopilot, live weather, ATC or multiplayer. Which could, admittedly, be a lot of people. But that doesn't invalidate the plain fact that there are many systems in the game that launched broken and have largely stayed broken ever since.malchior wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 4:25 pm Lol. Anyway, sorry for the derail but I couldn't let that go unaddressed.
I'm with Scraper. Enormous backlog plus what I'm reading about the launch state of Cyberpunk puts me in no particular hurry to buy. I'm thinking I'll jump in around the first DLC point or in about six months, whichever comes sooner.
I no longer post here.
