Shenanigans ahoy in Georgia?
New U.S. attorney in Atlanta brings in assistants who worked on election-fraud issues, raising fears of political interference
New U.S. attorney in Atlanta brings in assistants who worked on election-fraud issues, raising fears of political interference
The top federal prosecutor in Savannah, Ga. — whom President Trump recently tapped to take over the U.S. attorney’s office in Atlanta — has brought to his new assignment two assistants previously tasked with monitoring possible election fraud, raising fears that he might be taking steps to lend credibility to Trump’s baseless claims of electoral malfeasance, people familiar with the matter said.
The move by U.S. Attorney Bobby Christine in the waning days of the Trump administration follows unusual events this week in the federal prosecutor offices in Atlanta and Savannah that have fueled suspicions among legal observers of political interference in law enforcement work.
On Monday, Byung J. “BJay” Pak, whom Trump had appointed as the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia in 2017, unexpectedly told colleagues he was stepping down. On Tuesday, officials announced that Christine would take over for Pak, bypassing Pak’s top deputy, who otherwise might have moved into the job by default.
Then, Christine tapped two assistant U.S. attorneys in the Southern District of Georgia — Joshua S. Bearden and Jason Blanchard — for some type of work in the Northern District, people familiar with the matter said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the matter’s political sensitivity. Their task is unclear, but Christine had recently assigned both to serve as district election officers reviewing complaints of election fraud and voting rights abuses.

Eh. Not really. Sec 230 protects them from these problems. These businesses are more afraid of the business risk of an insurgency being seen to be linked to their platforms. Sort of how businesses are finally cutting ties to Trump. Revolution is bad for business. At worst the platforms would be swamped with law enforcement serving warrants which is a minor time suck normally. More than a few and it becomes a big time suck; those type of investigations don't scale very well.LordMortis wrote: Sun Jan 10, 2021 12:07 amYou figure everyone is afraid of section 230 and becoming responsible the content of the unpredictably violent and the insurrectionist.Zaxxon wrote: Sat Jan 09, 2021 11:41 pm I think her point is that it's not likely going to Google or Microsoft, and will likely therefore end up at a host that's a major step down in ancillary services and overall security posture.

Of course AWS is the bigger issue, but I think you underestimate the app store part. I mean Facebook and Twitter also work in the browser, but if their apps suddenly and semi-permanently stopped working you can bet your ass usage would suffer considerably.LawBeefaroni wrote: Sat Jan 09, 2021 11:55 pmParler works in a browser. Dash of salt required but I feel like Garland should launch a massive investigation and publish a public report of Trump-era abuses at DOJ.

Yes, it's possible to sideload a new release to Android, and even iOS for those that are really persistent. But my point was/is that these issues will definitely, 100% certainly, without any scrap of a doubt, drastically and permanently reduce the user base of Parler. That's how app ecosystems work.

Re: Election integrity and the transfer of power
True but its possible to consider this a particular edge case. Will user base go down? Probably but opposing that is the high likelihood that these folks desperately want to get their communication networks back up. Especially before Jan 20. Though I would make a small bet that Parler won't be back in time anyway.Zaxxon wrote: Sun Jan 10, 2021 10:51 amInstalled or not, the current releases everywhere will stop functioning tonight and require an update if/when Parler moves to a new host.Alefroth wrote: Sun Jan 10, 2021 4:40 amThat's what I thought, but I couldn't find confirmation anywhere. Some of their base, sure. But these folks aren't magically all technologically-savvy or different from the populace at large when it comes to this stuff. It's a huge blow.

PGA Will strip 2022 PGA Champs from Trump Bedminster. Read that statement and weep about the crisis of legitimacy our country faces. They were worried about Trump sending the IRS after him.

“The odds that ’22′s PGA Championship will happen as scheduled in New Jersey are about as good as the chances of you or I winning it. Seth Waugh, the PGA of America’s CEO, was a banker and has an alert eye for high-risk exposure. He knows that Trumpism is likely to be an equally incendiary force in the ’22 midterm elections and that any affiliation is poisonous. Waugh will be forced to move the event and face down a small but vocal faction of his membership who remain true believers. Moving its major from Trump National has been debated internally at the PGA for more than two years, but executives have been reluctant to antagonize a famously vindictive man who controls the Internal Revenue Service. Such concerns melt away in 10 days, if not sooner.”

The Nye County GOP is having a normal one. here’s a snippet, the whole thing is a doozy.
I have often wondered if OO’s resident staunch conservatives (who no longer post in R&P) are buying into this shit.
No amount of special commissions, investigations, or audits will ever convince these people otherwise. As I write to you today, I have no doubt that this letter will find many of you crushed under the weight of despair or perhaps lost in a maze of confusion. It is my hope that by the time you finish reading this letter you will be able to confidently join millions of others who support the president and another four years.
Let me be clear: Trump will be president for another four years. Biden will not be president. Yes, I know those are shocking words in these crazy days.
I have been approached by many saying, “It’s over…” and “Trump conceded the election…”. Nothing of the sort has taken place. Go back and listen to the videos all the way through. At no point does Trump even mention Biden’s name. At no point does he say he concedes. He does say that there will be a peaceful transition to a new administration and he does say that this is only the beginning. Those phrases are important to note. Indeed, we will have a new administration made up of a new vice president and cabinet as the current ones have all made their treason complete. I will touch on this in more detail shortly.

Not much detail, but apparently he was assigned to guard the Senate. Who knows his state of mind, but it was likely not good.

The latter is far more likely because they are bound by a political movement. That most Republicans went on to contest the election and have since refused to call out Trump are...just depressing. Maybe business leaders shunning them will get their attention. The problem they face is they've cast the die. Some might weigh that they have to go forward because they face oblivion if they don't succeed now.YellowKing wrote: Sun Jan 10, 2021 12:05 pmYeah at this point we're dealing with a doomsday cult.wonderpug wrote:I can’t wrap my head around how these people are going to handle January 20. Those go one of two ways when the apocalypse fails to materialize. They either suffer despair and disappointment and drift their separate ways, or they make their own Armageddon. I fear we're looking at the latter.

Both Pence and Biden called the family of murdered Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick.

Good. That will probably be the best method of shutting these assholes down. Money as speech, starve the beast, etc.malchior wrote:"Marriott suspends political donations to GOP lawmakers who sided with Trump and objected to Biden's certification as president"

Details keep coming out confirming that the assault was far worse than the “out of control tourism” Trumpers want you to think it was.

Watching republicans try to completely rewrite history with blatant lies today is making my blood pressure spike significantly.Holman wrote: Sun Jan 10, 2021 2:37 pm Details keep coming out confirming that the assault was far worse than the “out of control tourism” Trumpers want you to think it was.

Yeah narrative was stupid on the day of the event when pipe bombs were found around the Capitol. Then we saw the flexicuffs. And further video review shows groups in body armor moving through the crowd toward the Capitol entrance. This wasn't an organic event. Maybe not everyone was in on it but a lot of people could have been injured or killed on a different day.Holman wrote: Sun Jan 10, 2021 2:37 pm Details keep coming out confirming that the assault was far worse than the “out of control tourism” Trumpers want you to think it was.
Same. I have been skeptical of them for a long time but thought they at least had limits. I knew they were extreme but thought they were just going to subvert within the system. That a President went beyond and the party is defending him still is galling.Skinypupy wrote: Sun Jan 10, 2021 2:41 pmWatching republicans try to completely rewrite history with blatant lies today is making my blood pressure spike significantly.Holman wrote: Sun Jan 10, 2021 2:37 pm Details keep coming out confirming that the assault was far worse than the “out of control tourism” Trumpers want you to think it was.
Edit: That we have just 2 GOP Senators calling for him to resign is just insanity. They should have been pressing him on Wednesday night in great numbers. That is an indicator to me that chances are very high that this is out of control.
