April, the giraffe that became an online star, dies
The 20-year-old giraffe started showing signs of mobility problems last summer, and veterinary imaging showed she had arthritis in her feet and problems in her left hind leg.April, the giraffe that became a sensation when a rural New York zoo livestreamed her 2017 pregnancy and delivery, was euthanized Friday because of advancing arthritis, the zoo said.
Sad. 2017 seems like yesterday.

Daehawk wrote: Fri Apr 02, 2021 2:39 pm I bought a cherry coke today. Its actually very good. When Coca Cola first started selling them I wasn't impressed. Never much cared for them. I think I was spoiled because my first cherry cokes were hand made in a small Scottsboro Alabama family run pharmacy with snack counter and ice cream parlor. Like you see in 1950s stuff. Its still there I think. They would add crushed ice to a glass, then cola syrup, some cherry juice, then fill it with carbonated water and stir vigorously. SO GOOD. So the stuff that came to store shelves just wasn't the same. Its been years since I bought one. But the one I got today is pretty good. Probably be even better if they sold them in the small glass bottles.
We had a drugstore counter that made cherry phosphates (among other flavors). Loved those when I still had my sweet tooth.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

For three days Ive been having toss and turn sleeping. This morning I woke up at 6:30 and tossed until falling back asleep before the 8am alarm. Between that time I dreamed I was in a small smoky dimly lit lounge or nite club. Up on a tiny stage Patrick Stewart was singing What If God Was One of Us by Joan Osborne. Part way through the song a young Tom Jones suddenly appeared behind him to take over singing the chorus. He was really belting it out. Even in my dream I remember thinking "WOW a young Tom Jones!" They were good too.

Unfortunately I had no panties to throw at him because Id thrown them at the previous act and I only wore the one pair. I cant remember who that previous act was but they must have been awesome.

Well so much for ever mowing again. At least with this mower. I got the entire front done and had gotten 2 strips on the side field done when the bolt that holds the blade on sheared off up in the shaft. No way to get that piece out and not enough room for a safe smaller one. Luckily the blade simply hit the ground and stayed there and didn't fly out and chop my legs off.

So Im fucked. My only hope is to keep waiting on the stimulus and try and find a used mower again. That one had a good run. 2000 year model and we got it in 2009 or so. It used to mow foot tall grass with ease. Lately it would choke and die on 3" grass. Died 6 or 7 times today on me like that.

Welp mowing done...I called it...or rather it threw in the towel..or blade. Now to weed eat. Maybe the neighbors will burn the yard one night.

So, between the two March Madness games today, CBS aired a fairly long (20’ish minutes) Miley Cyrus performance as a “Tribute to First Responders”.

Having never paid any attention to her outside of the nightmarish KidsBop songs my kids played on repeat, I have to admit that I was very impressed with her voice. The Joan Jett/Pat Benatar thing she had going on worked pretty well too.

Never thought I’d say that.

Heard from my brother in law today. First time in twenty years. Said his evil wife whom he is divorcing was the cause of the "miscommunication" and the fall of the Soviet Empire.

The forgotten director who gave us The Force, inspired 2001, and changed film
Kroitor, who died in 2012, was known for a string of innovations in movie-making. He was at the forefront of the cinéma vérité movement, typified by films like Lonely Boy as well as a pair of short documentaries on the legendary piano player Glenn Gould, and another that brings viewers into the life of Igor Stravinsky. Later, Kroitor pioneered multi-screen filmmaking and co-founded IMAX, the company that would deliver a giant-sized cinematic experience to viewers around the world. And along the way, he made a film that inspired Stanley Kubrick as he was making 2001: A Space Odyssey—plus Kroitor just happened to give George Lucas the idea for “the Force.”

But above all else, Roman Kroitor was a risk-taker who intuitively understood the elements of visual storytelling, recalls filmmaker Stephen Low, who often collaborated with Kroitor (as did his father, Colin Low). While Kroitor made dramas as well as documentaries, there was something about the latter format that fascinated him. As Low puts it, he “loved telling real stories that celebrated real people.”

I've got both in the right place.

Try zooming in and out? I did a search for "Georgia, United States" and noticed that the word "Georgia" (as the search target) was superimposed over the map even though there was also a "Ga." on the state. Plus, some state labels disappear if other text (like "United State") is too close to them.

Zooming in to certain level briefly shows Georgia over/in place of Atlanta , but Wisconsin still hangs in the middle of the state. And if you zoom out, it abbreviates to WI.

Dear CompanyName,

When I'm on hold and listening to your looping chatter, please don't suddenly cut out to tell me I'm waiting. I know I'm waiting. Every single time it cuts out, I get a brief moment of anticipation at finally talking with someone. This is annoying to have happen over and over and over without actually talking to anyone.
