Here is Jeff Beck's version of The Stumble, maybe my favorite one. This is near and dear to my heart since it is one of the only Freddy King tunes I was able to figure out how to play.

Ihsahn - "Manhattan Skyline (ft. Einar Solberg)"

a reasonably good cover of my all-time favorite a-ha track

The inimitable Freddie King strips down to fighting weight for this one. Recorded during the blues revival of the early '70s at the Sugarbowl. It amazes me how he delivers blistering solos, seemingly from a single position on the fret board.

It’s crazy to me that the same guy who created maybe the two most influential extreme metal albums ever (“In the Nightside Eclipse” and “Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk”) is now doing A-Ha covers.

So at the beginning of the year I went down the Spotify rabbit hole and made a (very large) playlist of metal covers of non-metal songs. One of the delights of doing this was discovering Skar and his covers of movie/TV show soundtracks/songs. Here are the two I put on the playlist....

The Hobbit - Misty Mountains

Fiona Apple's cover of The Waterboys "The Whole of the Moon" - excellently done, and brings a different interpretation...

Someone posted this folk cover of "Straight Outta Compton" this morning. Everything about this is utterly wrong, but I couldn't stop laughing.

Came across this. Waylon Jennings' and Johnny Cash's grandsons performing together. If you close your eyes, you can just picture their grandfathers.

Well, it's been a long time, hasn't it? They've had time to grow. I can kind of see the resemblances especially in Thomas Gabriel.

Lately, our local dinosaur rock station has been all abuzz about David Grohl's Hanukah cover tunes. But then as an example, they played him covering Barry Manilow. Ugh.

This is the only cover I am aware of, though I don't know if they have during live shows:

Really kicking myself for skipping the show I could have seen ~1994 in a small NJ bar. If you don't own 1993's Saturation, it's a keeper that still gets spins from me.

It's funny, I was JUST reminding my Wife about us seeing them around this time. It's not a long trip around the corner of The Big Lake to GR and they brought a whole SCENE of people with them. Everybody was wearing turtlenecks and medallions and it was cool as shit.

Easily half the crowd, 75+ people, were hip as fuck folk that came with them.

OK, to throw out an on-topic post...

I really like this recently fairly stable line-up of Melvins which has included Steve McDonald (of Redd Kross) on bass:

In honor of Sidney Poitier, who is mentioned in the first 15 seconds of this cover of the Butthole Surfers classic, Moving Down to Florida. Awesome lineup with Jeff Pinkus, formerly of the Buttholes on bass and ALSO Steve McDonald of Redd Kross on bass.
