Re: 1st
When OO was founded I had either just got a 2004 Toyota Corolla or was still driving my 1988 Chevy Nova (which ended up catching on fire as I drove it to the Toyota dealership). In 2017, I traded in the Corolla which at that point was completely rusted through in multiple areas of the roof and trunk for a 2017 Hyundai Tuscon. Tuscon is still treating me well: so far (knock on wood!) no rust or catching on fire.

Re: 1st
I've been through a few boring cars since I've been here:
- 1997 Saturn SL1
- 1999 Ford Taurus
- 2003(?) PT Cruiser
- 2010 Ford Focus
- 2015 Chevy Trax (currently driving)
Needless to say, I'm not much of a car guy. If it has 4 wheels and gets me from point A to point B, it's good enough for me.

I'm still driving my 2005 Corolla that I probably bought around the same time or shortly after OO started.

Fine. I wasn't going to, but since it seems like everyone else is.... and I don't want to get left out...
I still have my 1998 Ford F150 that I bought in 1999. It even still runs. I don't drive it very often, however.
I also still have my 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata. Purchased in early 2007, I believe. It also doesn't get driven much. But that's just because I work from home and don't go out much.

I left out that a number of times it didn't get driven because the battery died from sitting. Oops.

Any roof rust? For awhile, I was documenting the rust on any similar year Corolla. I found it especially bad on Corollas that were the same color as my car (dark blue). Of course, strapping a kayak on to the roof of my car with foam pool toys probably didn't help....YellowKing wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 11:03 am I'm still driving my 2005 Corolla that I probably bought around the same time or shortly after OO started.

No rust at all, but the clear coat is absolutely shot. It's a beige color so it wears it a bit better than a darker color would.Ralph-Wiggum wrote:Any roof rust?
I had planned to buy a new truck pre-Covid, but I put those plans on hold after realizing I'd be working from home indefinitely. As it stands now, the Corolla maybe gets driven 5 miles a week? And that's only to run my daughter back and forth to the bus stop. Would seem a colossal waste of money to buy a shiny truck to sit in my driveway doing nothing.

I only drove 300 miles in 2020. Didn't even get an oil change this year. However, I've racked up 1,300 miles so far in 2021 and my odometer could roll to 8,000 before the year is out. I'm even going to need gas again!

You should probably get your oil changed, even with driving that little.Kraken wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 3:40 pmI only drove 300 miles in 2020. Didn't even get an oil change this year. Is that still the case with synthetics? I also have had one oil change since 2019 though I am due for 2nd... Maybe in January...
Edit...
Heh...
https://offroadingpro.com/how-long-does ... -oil-last/
Frequently Asked Questions
How many months does synthetic oil last? On average, synthetic oil lasts from 6-12 months. Depending on viscosity grade, some synthetic variants are more thermally stable than others and may extend oil life by a few more months. Ultimately, it depends on the different factors discussed in this guide. For comparison, vehicles subject to hard-driving most likely require closer-interval oil changes than those ridden on the freeway.
Will synthetic oil last 2 years? Several synthetic motor oil brands have claimed extended periods of oil life reaching up to two years. However, this is hardly realistic. An excellent way to know how long your synthetic oil will last is to refer to your service manual and take your driving habits and other vehicle-impacting parameters into account.
Does refraining from starting your vehicle during winter help prolong oil life? Honestly, there are numerous discussions around this topic, splitting vehicle owners into those who go for and against the idea. But to think that the answer to this question is subjective wouldn’t be entirely correct either.

My son has biked to school every day this year. My daughter is in a school on the other side of town, about 15 minute drive (close to 10 miles each way). She is only pre-K, the school administrators fetch and deliver her to the car every day and might not be cool with her doing her own commute. While she can bike that far, she's not happy about it and the climb out of the Fox River Valley is challenging even to me.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg
