Netflix exclusive films and content

Post by Zarathud »

My 12 year old daughter read a summary of the whole thing before watching up to the last episode. She was drawn to it through the kid’s games…where people who lost died.

It’s a cultural phenomenon like the Day After in the 80s.

I agree with this. When the show started I was worried that it would be all about the Saw-style gore. The characters made the show work more than the games.

I watched two episodes of squid game and it's just not for me. I don't think it's bad but I also don't think it's good. I have a lot of trouble sympathizing with characters who just do something stupid, get into a bad situation, and then do something even dumber. In many ways it reminds me of Uncut Gems and Ozark. Both of which might be technically good but just aren't enjoyable for me to watch.

I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. It mostly just felt disappointing.

My only suggestion: wait until you’ve watched through the third episode before deciding. For me, at least, that’s when it really picked up. Also, the characters (well, some of them) get more sympathetic as the show progresses.

I just watched The Two Popes. I know I'm pretty late to that, but what an acting display! Anthony Hopkins puts on one of the greatest performances I've ever seen.
Great movie.

Yeah, it really is a great movie, and it's one of Netflix's best.

Speaking of Netflix movies, Anyone in the mood for a good war movie should check out The Forgotten Battle.

I finished up Squid Game last night. It definitely justifies the hype: the first few episodes are brilliant, and even if the ending doesn't rise to those heights, it's still plenty good.

I really wish they wouldn't make a sequel and would just leave us with that final shot. But of course they have to, given its runaway success.

I was surprised to see a 3rd season of Narcos: Mexico pop up since it'd been so long since the last one. I thought they'd given up on it.

I love the scheming and backstabbing on the show. It’s really just Rome, but with scumbag drug kingpins and their minions. I also like that they don’t glamorize the scumbags. They’re awful people and they aren’t afraid to say so. It’s jarring to see some of the shows/movies made in Mexico about the drug cartels as they sometimes make the people involved into almost heroic figures at times.

Anyone watching the League of Legends - Arcane show? It seems to be getting great reviews, with or without the LoL references. I've watched the first two episodes and it looks pretty good so far.

I'm also watching Season 3 of You, which is fun and bonkers as expected. Plus... Scott Speedman!

I just came here to post about Arcane. I'm through the three available episodes (more hit this coming weekend) and think it's utterly fantastic so far.

The art style sucked me in immediately; looks almost painted. Music and sound are great, and at least for this first arc, the story is quite compelling. That may be in part due to the fact that it's a tale of two sisters and I'm watching with my older daughter, but I highly recommend giving the show a shot. I know very little of League of Legends, and it hasn't been a problem.

In short, I agree with Polygon's review.

Well, I’ll just have to watch it now, won’t I. However, if you’re all tricking me into watching something with Mark Wahlberg in it, I swear to god I’ll rain down fire on you all.

Watched about 20 minutes last night (didn't realize episodes were almost an hour long each). First impression: my god, it's absolutely stunning. The animation is impressive as hell. Second thought: It's Dishonored! :)

I could do without the teen pop soundtrack, but I get that it’s going for that demographic primarily. I’m just happy it’s so entertaining that I can ignore the music.

I finished Squid Game yesterday. It was both interesting and terrible. I hate, hate, hate the dub but based on the visuals the original was way overacted too. So many terrible characters... but some of them were really good terrible characters. It is perplexing.

Coop you would hate watching TV at my house. It's closed captions all the time.

Even though Mrs. CP's English is pristine, she's not a native speaker, so heavy accents will sometimes give her trouble.

Subtitles are where it's at, for sure though. Dubs can go straight to hell.

For me it depends entirely on the production. I do feel dubs have gotten much better over the years, sometimes with some of the same actors dubbing their lines, making it feel more natural. And normally I'd be all for subtitles as it gives a better essence and tone, but as I have a vision problem at the moment, that's currently out for me.

I'm a native speaker and accents can give me trouble. I never think to subtitle. I just rewind like 20 times. If only I could do either in live conversation. Subtitles is also very hard for me. My reading comprehension is sllllooooowwwww so I sometimes don't finish a line and I cannot pay attention to the screen and the writing at the same time.

It sucks cause there's anime I think I'd love if I could read and watch and comprehend action and comprehend what I'm reading all at the same time.
