I haven't seen my father in 22 years (when he was 52, which I am getting pretty close to). I am not 100% sure I would recognize him if I saw him today so I can't say if I look like him. I do recall people saying the resemblance was clear when I was younger. My older son is all me, my younger is much less obviously mine, except for his attitude.

My dad was a meat cutter and he knew good cuts of meat and how to make the best of what we had. He passed a couple years ago and I wish I had listened to him more growing up talking about his profession. I remember seeing him at work and he showed me cleaning out a bandsaw and the cows hanging in the fridge on hooks. Creeped me out and I never really gave my dad the respect he deserved for his skills being a meat cutter... and having all of his fingers!

dayslights savings times is this weeksends!!!!

As the only guy who seems to have to drive in to work anymore, I'm ecstatic. I hate getting up in the pitch black and then driving in the pitch black when it's crazy early. I totally get everyone else hates it being dark at 17:00. Screw you! All of you!

Now that my kids are out of elementary school I'm cool either way, but sending young kids to school in the dark (most everyone walks/bikes to school here) feels wrong.

I don't understand, if you're not going to work or school, what difference it makes what the clock says when the sun comes up. This is driven home particularly for me since my parrot refuses to let me sleep past sunrise.

Our little chihuahua doesn't change with the time. He gets a snack at 7pm. But when the time changes he wants it at his 7pm so I have to give it to him at 6pm lol.

Im tempted not to set my main clock back. I dont watch TV so wont miss stuff and if I have an appt I have the tablets clock and alarm to use.

I hadn't really considered this. This is Little B 12.8's first year taking the bus (we drove her before) and she hasn't had to wait for it in the dark yet. I don't think it'll cause her to panic, but she does tend to get anxious over weird things sometimes. Shocking for a 12-year-old girl, I know. She's insistent that Mrs. Skinypupy or I walk her the 5 minutes to the bus stop each morning, for example.

Doesn't make any difference to me, as I'm up before the sun every day anyways (usually around 5:30).

No, I think they have Michigan lefts instead of jug-handles. In theory, it makes more sense to make a U-Turn from the left lane rather than making a right-lane exit to loop around. However, you're correct in that making a Michigan left puts you in the fast lane of what was the oncoming traffic. That would end very, very badly in NJ.
There are a few places in NJ with those, notably on US-22 and a couple of places on US-202. One of the ones on US-22 in Mountainside is particularly fun, since it drops you in the left lane on a bit of a curve! It also features two of them in quick succession.
Smoove_B wrote: Fri Nov 05, 2021 12:33 pmThe only thing I understand even less in our state is the recent use of center turn only lanes. Just a big ole lane in the center that either side can use to make left or right turns, as you see fit.
Those always make me anxious.

That said, all my out-of-state friends and business contacts complain about jughandles every time they have to come out to NJ.

We have those, known as three and five lane highways everywhere. I can't imagine why you'd be nervous. It's not like you can't see the traffic using them. The only thing you need be wary of (and I am guilty of) is using them to merge into traffic during high congestion. It's against the law to do this but everyone does anyway. It become dangerous because someone like my tries to merge at stopped traffic and someone else is also illegally driving down the lane intending to make a left turn 1/2 mile up the road and doesn't want to wait in stopped traffic. That person barrelling along doesn't see the person creeping out to merge and... accident... It's rare but it happens.

Just don't use the lane a merging lane or drive like it's your express lane until you are ready to turn and it's all good.

Still not gotten storage boxes. Ive been holding out trying to find them super cheap. Seems a lost cause at this point. I checked multiple thrift stores and no one had one. One said they sometimes do but they go about as fast as they put them out on the shelves. The Dollar Tree only has little small ones paper thin.

My best bet still seems to be Walmart. One that seems to hold a bunch of dvds will run $10 each . I may get by with 4 of them. I dont have that many DVDs but I do have lots of little things covering all my counter space...3 tables are covered and 2 dresser tops. No room to sit anything. So it all goes into boxes. And the big big ones I need to put clothes in run about $20. Trouble is I need them all together because when I start redoing the bedroom I cant just stop between months. If the PC sells I can get them all. If not it seems Ill have to space out buying them and maybe wait until warmer weather in the spring to do the clean up. Im guessing that may be for the best. But I do hate not having the extra room and access to some items until then.

Any other ideas on stores to visit?

YMMV, but as I previously suggested in your Where can you buy cheap storage boxes thread:

You probably won't like this idea (and you'll probably comment and then ignore it), but it sounds like you're less in need to storage boxes than you are of a trip to Goodwill. Your home is a storage container. If it's full, you need to take some stuff out of your container. You need less stuff, not to just push it around. If you haven't touched it in a couple of months, the chances are you'd never notice it gone.

If it is yours, ask yourself honestly if you'll ever actually use it again. "Just in case" stuff can go beyond stuff you'll use to stuff you know you never will, but don't want to throw out- that's not helping you. I'm poor, too. I had this problem. I've rarely had the money to buy things when I needed them, so I kept things in case the need was ever there, but I ended up keeping stuff I'd never use. Extra parts for equipment I no longer had, two dozen spare cables, tools for hobbies I no longer practiced. It wasn't hoarding, it was just genuine caution and preparedness that exceeded its usefulness without me ever really noticing.

If it's sentimental to you personally, ask yourself two questions:

First, is it happy sentimental? Does it remind you of good things, or does it drag you down by reminding you of the past and keeping you from letting go?

Second, is it uniquely sentimental? Do you need 20 souvenirs from that one trip to the beach? Do you need ticket stubs from every movie you ever saw? If it is something that belonged to a lost loved one, do you have a dozen similar items that remind you of the same thing? If so, pick one or two and let the rest go. A favorite scarf and hat can be a link to a person. You don't need a whole wardrobe to remind you of them.

I had to deal with all of this thought process earlier this year. When I really started looking at stuff - picking it up and holding it in my hand - I ended up getting rid of a full third of everything I owned. And not only have I not missed it, but a lot of other people benefited from my donations.
What doesn't kill me makes me stranger.

Most is stuff Ill never use. Some is stuff Ill never see again once stored. But its also stuff I dont want to get rid of. Stuff has memories. Yes you can have memories without the stuff but I have a shit memory and I forget memories until I see the item then I have the memories back.

I have two back rooms, former bedrooms, that are used for storage. We've stored stuff for years. I still have enough room to comfortably store more stuff. When Im gone someone can do what they want with it. While Im around I may talk myself into selling some stuff. Ive already given thoughts to that. If I keep some stuff and never sell it then someone else will have the item and the money anyways when Im gone so I want to sell some. But not now. And hell maybe never. But Im keeping stuff :)

As for Goodwill and such Im sure I could get lots of paper boxes. I dont need that. I need more secure lidded boxes. Wild critters get in sometimes and gnaw and tear up. I want more security for the boxes and the stuff in them.
