The idea that there were no cops showing up if the robber decided on something other then robbery strikes me as being a good reason why I am pissed.Carpet_pissr wrote: Mon Jan 17, 2022 11:53 am Agree with LB. It’s a bit weird that you are ok with being robbed (!) but freak out bc the cops didn’t show up to file the 876th robbery paperwork that month?
Are you sure that’s what’s really bothering you here? I literally don’t know, but it might be worth doing 15m deep dive within yourself to really think that through.
What I do know is that we humans OFTEN get very upset at things we assume are the problem, when we are actually upset at something else.
Semi-related: a wise, Argentinian Jesuit once taught me that when you find yourself at 11 on the angry scale, those are the times you should stop, try to calm down and really focus on WHAT is making you that angry. Many times it’s a truth that we don’t want to admit is true…often about ourselves.
No idea if that is the case here, but something to consider. I’ve personally found that yo be the case more than a few times in my life.
Thinking of dumping my car... Thoughts?

I get that. But again I guess I question if you are REALLY "ok with robbery" because with any robbery (especially armed) there is the potential for something more...violence, death, a trigger gets pulled accidentally, etc.
I think the point was that cops would ALMOST NEVER show up in time to catch the robbers in action. They usually get there so late that the only thing to do is question you, and file a report.

Cops showing up increases the danger. Better for you if the robbers to get out of the store and nabbed in the parking lot — or at their house.

I guess I had this bizarre fantasy that the cops would get him in the parking lot or nearby. Ideally, gunning him down in a hail of bullets. Alas. Life is not a 90's action movie.

Re: Need to job hop quick!
Soooo about 1:30 PM today a customer came in, puked in front of an employee and claimed to have COVID, co worker freaked out and immediately went home, leaving me alone again. I lock the doors. DM calls me in a shrieking rage, why are the doors locked. I calmly explain to him that that was what the "refusal to do unsafe work" was about, that I was not convinced that the DM could order me to open solo when it was clearly made apparent that even with co workers things can get dicey. The incident that made for the tandem worker policy? An employee was jumped in the store, beaten to a pulp. Another employee was robbed right before I started work there.
So yeah. I refused to open solo. I pointed out unsafe work, he shrieked at me that he didn't owe me anything. I told him I would open till relief arrived. An hour after it did I was called and informed that I was being suspended pending termination tomorrow.
This is all one big complicated mess. One I'm sure I can pitch to an employment lawyer in a free consultation. For now I am going to rest, recharge, access how I could have done things differently and move forward.

I kinda took a blind leap into the unknown with this job. I had a lot of fun with it. Made a good amount of money. I also learned some pretty good lessons about sticking to my guns in an unsafe situation. Could I have been more diplomatic? Yes. Do I regret refusing to open the doors? Nope. He broke 7-11 policy on firing me behind my refusing opening the doors, pending his safety report. Soooooo. I am going to take my meticulously documented case to an employment law specialist, tell them exactly what happened and see what they make of things.
Either way I intend to get employed somewhere else. Im not gonna sue and then sit around and bitch and get bitter and be angry and wait years for whatever comes along.
No. I intend to be a lot less selective this time, take any job that offers full time hours and throw myself into it as thoroughly and as competently as I did with my 7-11 gig!! I intend to use what I did wrong as a learning experience and apply it going forward into a job that carries less risk of robbery and beating!

Milwaukee
A Burger King employee told Milwaukee police that she, her father and Niesha Harris-Brazell were in on a plan to stage the robbery that led to the inadvertent shooting death of the 16-year-old cashier.
The allegations came in a criminal complaint filed Friday against the coworker’s father, Antoine Z. Edwards, 41, of Milwaukee, which accuses him of enacting the staged robbery by leaning into a drive-thru window with a gun.
The details in the complaint mark another wild turn in the investigation in the death of Harris-Brazell. It also alleged clearly what earlier court documents suggested: that Harris-Brazell was not shot by the robbery suspect but instead by a coworker who was not in on plans to stage a robbery and shot at the robbery suspect, inadvertently hitting and killing Harris-Brazell.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

In my many years, I’ve heard dozens of incidents where a disgruntled ex-employee was going to take their case to an employment lawyer. They’ve all ended the same way.
Everyone thinks they have a case, almost none of them do.
Good luck at the next disaster waiting to happen.

Think I didn't document this just the same? Guess who represents 7-11? Sedgwick.
Guess who I beat? Sedgwick. I didn't just beat sedgwick, I beat them badly. I proved my case and sent them screaming for the hills. Against my lawyers advice. I beat them.
Think I don't cover my bases?
I'm 1-0 with Sedgwick, and I like my odds here.
Edit for: I don't think I stated my case enough. I didn't just beat Sedgwick, You know when someone gets robbed and they just toss a shit load of money towards the robber and run the other way? That's what I did with Sedgwick. Like. I caught them sleeping, and I made them settle. For like WAYYYYYYYYYYYY more then they wanted to give up.
I did that. Me.
And if you think I'm gonna be some chump that 7 one one can fire and walk away untouched. I beg to differ. I'm smart. I know my rights. I'm not one of the "underclass". I have education. I have means. I have smarts and my former employer made a grave mistake today.

A lot of companies put you on probation for 60-90 days when you are hired during which time they can fire you for any reason they want.

Re: Hi guys! (Officially newly hired) First day of 7-11. I did okay!
Grimm? My former employer is going to throw money at me to go away. I am going to take it. My firing was largely due to factors outside my control. I was only doing what I thought was right. I urged my DM to contact HR and have them contact me on how to move forward. My DM instead chose to fire me without even so much as addressing the formal documents I sent him. He is wrong, I am right. I have the paper trail. I have record of myself, at every stage in the process trying to do right by him, the store and my company, but most importantly my employees.Isgrimnur wrote: Mon Jan 17, 2022 11:33 pmdbt1949 wrote: Mon Jan 17, 2022 11:30 pm A lot of companies put you on probation for 60-90 days when you are hired during which time they can fire you for any reason they want. He's good.Drazzil wrote: Wed Sep 29, 2021 1:02 am First day of 7-11. So I have my bases covered. My former employer broke written policy and failed to in writing, or verbally over the phone satisfy me, senior ranking employee that he was following policy. My former employer will pay for this. They broke policy. They suspended me pending termination and for that they are going to have to go to court.

If I don't miss my guess? DM is not intending to fire me. He wants me to have a "come to Jesus" moment and tomorrow when he phones in tomorrow to give me "one more chance" I am supposed to tearfully accept his offer and "never ever disobey him again"
I've got no record. He wanted me out of his store to figure out what to do with me. He's probably kvetching with layers of management at least three above him, possibly legal.
Or he fired me today and kicked it to legal to see if they could make it stick. If not he will "generously" give me another chance.

I’m not sure I said you were a chump. I said that most people that think they have a case, don’t.
It doesn’t really matter that you did in a different case with a different employer. That doesn’t impact this case.

Give the lawyer the documented proof, then let the lawyer do the talking for me. Once I sue I'm very quiet. I let my lawyer judge based on the evidence I hand him, how to do the threatening. And here is where it will all fall apart. You are so quick to want to lash out at any perceived injustice that you think you are in the right here.
Do I agree with only 1 employee at a time in Retail? No.
Do I think that you and he/she could and should have handled this better? Yes.
All in all you will not learn from this and simply walk around like a wounded lion looking to lash out again and again.
Want my advice? Walk away from this situation. Forget your grand plans for another Kriminal Sopina and move on. Leave the piss and vinegar attitude behind and move on. You'll grow more from that approach than any more time wasted on filing a legal grievance when you should be focused on job hunt and personal growth.
While feeding all the beasties out back I let a nice big fart. The smell followed all the way back to the house. It's like it was my baby and felt abandoned.
