Lasagna is actually really easy to make. If I ever though about buying Ricotta then I'd probably make it fairly often. I make a much bigger production out of make spaghetti than I do lasagna. With Spaghetti, I end up taking half a day to make and season and marinate meatballs in the pasta sauce. With lasagna you just throw it together and throw it in the oven.

There is a direct correlation between how crunchy something is and how much I want to put it in my mouth during a film or television performance.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

I had a friend moved in with for a few months right after I separated from my first wife in '95. It was a seasonal college house, a huge place with like seven bedrooms. He and I shared the huge attic (which was finished and the size of two or three bedrooms by itself.) The place was a typical trashy college house, and ever two or three weeks someone would vanish, then a few days later there'd be someone we didn't recognize in the kitchen. Invariably someone had noticed the newly vacant room and invited a friend to move in. The landlady had no clue who actually lived there, save for about four of us who were a sort of 'core' group. It was a real adventure.

Anyway, one time my friend comes home. His bed is messed up, smells funny, and there is a pair of shoes - nice ones - on the floor next to it. Someone had been getting freaky in his bed! The next morning there was a single, expensive shoe in the middle of the kitchen table with a note:
Spoiler:
NOTICE:

My bed is now available for rent. Rate: One shoe.
Nobody ever 'borrowed' his bed again.

I lived in a house like that in college. It was all fun and games until the owners got a look inside. The wife literally cried.

Sounds about right. After that season (the house was vacated every summer after school), she switched to single rental.

When we were house shopping, one of the houses under consideration was what we called the "frat house". There were sleeping bags, suitcases and duffel bags in pretty much every room. From the inside you kind of wondered if the residents had any idea the house was for sale. For reference this is in a pretty nice suburban neighborhood north of Dallas (then $250-300k houses, all relatively recently built, now $500-600k houses). The frat house likely would have been a better choice for us, but we downgraded it basically because of the frat house-ness of it and it seems likely there would be some unpleasant surprises.

I have been in half million dollar homes that look magazine ready at the curb, but inside? It's like horror set for a b-movie. I have seen things I will never forget. It's been 20+ years and I'm mentally back in a few now and feeling gross, thanks.

EDIT: I'm just realizing now, these homes are probably $800K+ homes now. Assuming they haven't been cleansed with fire.

NPR
A ship carrying cars from Germany to the United States caught fire in the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday, forcing the crew's 22 members to abandon the vessel and leave it burning and adrift.

The nearly 650-foot-long ship Felicity Ace is capable of carrying 4,000 cars and was loaded with Porsches and Volkswagens.

The Portuguese navy rescued all 22 members of the crew from the ship, which was scheduled to arrive in Davisville, R.I., on Feb. 23. The crew was taken by helicopter to Faial island in the Azores, The Associated Press reported. None of the crew members were hurt.

As of Thursday, the fire is still active on the ship, the Portuguese navy reported.

Would you guys buy a knock-off Dyson stick-vac for $71?

Or pay double the price for something more name-brand like Eureka?

-----

I need to order another box of those Shin spicy noodles. Though somehow that spiciness doesn't go into the noodle. It's all in the soup. I add some meatballs or sliced turkey and a boiled egg to upgrade it.

I also like a lot the instant "freeze dried" miso. Some kombu, some scallions and whatnot, just add hot water. Tasty, minimal calories. Kinda expensive though.

BOSSS BAH Pizza just opened half a mile from us. Had the house special for lunch today (peppers, onion, mushrooms, salami). I'm pleased to report that they do make a wicked good South Shore bar pizza, which is by definition a 10" personal pizza. I stopped halfway through mine because I was satisfied, but I could've put down the whole pie.

I saw a swatting live on Twitch just now. Apparently a half dozen vehicles full of fully armed cops showed up at the streamer's home, but luckily they didn't kick in the door and come in guns blazing, so nobody was physically injured. Her husband came on camera briefly to explain what was going on and was remarkably calm considering what was going down.

Im drinking a Michelob Ultra and it just doesn't have the flavor of Mich Lite. They dont make Mich Lite though now since making the switch to Ultra. I miss beer days when they all didn't taste the same. Some beers had unique flavors to them that other beers did not. Mich Lite had its own special taste like Coors has its own and Bud its own. I prefer Pilsner Lagers it seems. Ultra is well kinda bland and samey to other beers. Lite's taste I cant describe other than not being Ultra's taste. I used to drink the non standard brews..Red Dog, Killian Red, Icehouse(yeech), and stuff. I dont like IPAs and dark beers. I dont want beer that tastes like burned coffee or super bitter hops. I like my normal American beers mostly.

I miss when they had their owns styles. Gimmi back my Michelob Lite.

Coors, Michelob, Miller, Budweiser, Hamms, Pabst - the whole line were high school 'get wasted on sale' beers. The beers you have to serve ice cold just to kill the taste. I have avoided them like the plague ever since. Blech.

But I agree about IPAs. Ick. Keeps your nasty hopses.

This!!! I remember when Sierra Nevada first came out, and all my friends loved it, and I just thought it was massively skunky/awful beer. Took me a long time to realize that was the hops/IPA styles.

I'll drink the US mass producer Lite beer lines tho.

Narry is still around, and still cheap.

Before there were any craft beers, I used to drink PBR and Strohs. Haven't had any mass-produced beers in a lot of years, but that might change when we start going to restaurants again because one of my favorite pubs has a burger-and-beer for $8 special, which effectively means the beer is free. But the only choices are Bud, Bud Light, Miller Lite, and Coors Light. One of these nights I'm going to see if I can enjoy a Bud enough to wash down a burger with it.

got a 9% rent increase notice from the property manager, effective April 1. rent hasn't been increased here since 2016, so i guess it had to happen sometime. however, Seattle laws changed last November so that landlords now have to give a 180 day notice of any rent increase. do i call this out? we have a pretty amiable rental relationship, and while getting four and a half months more until the rent increase would be nice, i am also wary of sparking any passive-aggressive retaliation (like getting the 180 day buffer, but the new rent being charged would be even higher...)

Even as a teenager I couldn't drink the super cheap nasty beers.. PBR, Miller Lite, Old Milwaukee and a few others.

This person did a good job describing cheap beers and ranking them.
