I thought Ukraine already had nukes... but a quick google search turns up that they used to have nukes.
... until they gave them up in exchange for assurances that their borders and sovereignty would be respected that were signed by countries that included (checks notes) Russia.
So here's a stupid question. Do Russia and the other beligerants in this stupid stupid war realize that North Korea and Iran and every other non nuclear power are taking notes? Don;t they think that the NN powers realize that the only way you get to be left alone is to "join the club"? Good luck on getting any country give up their nukes ever. Treaties mean shit paper.
You can't think that way. Thats what the people who want to keep the second amendment think.
You have one of the first countries to give up nukes and here they are being invaded. Not sure how you spin it any other way. They're invaded because they don't have nukes and no one is stopping Russia because they do have nukes.

Side note to Drazzil: North Korea already has nukes.
Maybe... I read something a while back that analyzed some north korean nuke tests and came to the conclusion that NK blew up a shit ton of radioactive material with conventional TNT.

Ukraine: Spam website set up to reach millions of Russians

A Norwegian computer expert has created a website enabling anyone to send an email about the war in Ukraine to up to 150 Russian email addresses at a time, so that Russian people have a chance to hear the truth their government is hiding.

Lovely spam, wonderful spam!

If ya got 2 hours, and want to learn more (via Julia Ioffe) regarding the history of Putin and Russia.

Her insights, storytelling, and knowledge are just amazing. It's like I knew all of these things at a surface level, but most of the story is the iceberg under the water.

Totally different. It's from 5 years ago, so it's fascinating to hear in today's context. (plus, I learned a lot)

It's just as eye-opening as the previous video.

Honestly, if Ukraine falls do you think Putin will be placated for the rest of his life? Maybe we buy a few years peace but then it starts all over again, and next time we really will have to see if NATO abides by Article 5.

According to pretty lady, it probably would (placate him). She said Ukraine is the last piece of his plan (that SHE thinks, obviously). He got all the other stuff he wanted so far, INCLUDING, and especially, the US bowing to him via Trump's telling him he trusts him more than his own intelligence agencies. Not sure if you saw that part, but talking about that moment, she said "and you can just roll the credits right there".

That more than anything (the perception that Russia is strong and the US is weak, that Russia is trustworthy, and the US is tricksy, etc.) has apparently been his goal since the fall of the USSR. Self own by the US and Trump just hands it to him on a platter, for the whole world to witness. Seminal moment for Putin thinking he has 'won'. Apparently it's always been about denigrating us and showing how crappy we are, and actively meddling to diminish (see: Trump), because he still can't get over (or doesn't want to) the Cold War.

I'm not convinced he will stop, especially when you consider her closing remarks. "Every time we think he won't go that far, he does." I mean, if I were in Putin's shoes, and I pulled out a win in Ukraine? I'd think I was the most badass leader ever, and roll the dice once again. Maybe go for Moldova next time, since it's not part of NATO.

Yes.
Neville Chamberlain holding the paper containing the resolution to commit to peaceful methods signed by both Hitler and himself on his return from Munich. He is showing the piece of paper to a crowd at Heston Aerodrome on 30 September 1938. He said:

"...the settlement of the Czechoslovakian problem, which has now been achieved is, in my view, only the prelude to a larger settlement in which all Europe may find peace. This morning I had another talk with the German Chancellor, Herr Hitler, and here is the paper which bears his name upon it as well as mine (waves paper to the crowd - receiving loud cheers and "Hear Hears"). Some of you, perhaps, have already heard what it contains but I would just like to read it to you ...".

Later that day he stood outside Number 10 Downing Street and again read from the document and concluded:

'"My good friends, for the second time in our history, a British Prime Minister has returned from Germany bringing peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time."

And a reminder: Czechoslovakia was not party to the talks that led to "the settlement of the Czechoslovakian problem".
Without consulting the Czechs, the four powers agreed that the Sudetenland should be given to Germany immediately. The governments of Britain and France made it clear to Czechoslovakia that if the Czechs rejected this solution, they would have to fight Germany by themselves.

I believe, IIRC, that that was in response to the question about him using nukes.

And to be fair, I'm not sure she would agree with the words I kind of put in her mouth. She made reference to Ukraine being the last piece of the laundry list of things he wanted, but didn't indicate (or not) that she thought he would go beyond Ukraine (maybe she mentioned this in the other video posted, I only watched the first one).

But yeah, when is "enough" good enough for the Putins of the world?

Russia is asking China for military and economic support in face of sanctions and war impacts. It isn't that surprising an ask and we'll see if China will move beyond rhetorical support.

The political risks to China for supporting a Russian war of aggression would be huge. What corresponding advantage would China gain? I don't think Putin's undying love is enough.

Also: It says a lot about Russia's war machine if Putin needs outside military aid to beat Ukraine.

They already have.

Russia tried at one point to trick local Ukrainian radio operators by leaking a fake list of their radio frequency. Anonymous immediately sent the amateur radio operators the list of real ones.

Pretty sure I read that here.

Anonymous hacks Russian media censorship agency and leaks 340,000 files amid claims Moscow could try to cut the country off from the internet
https://fortune.com/2022/03/07/anonymou ... -invasion/
Anonymous claims it hacked into Russian TVs and showed the true devastation of Putin’s Ukraine invasion
I remember they hit the entire country's broadcasting network right after the war started. I also note we're not seeing a strong cyberwarefare predicted by everyone yet. I can only assume that is due to, at least in part, Anonymous either actively fighting Russian ops or having been part of the Russian machine and refusing to participate in their cyber warfare. That is an assumption on my part, though.

Definitely plausible. There are more than a few factors that hint against that though. First a caveat - I've never seen or investigated a cyber attack at any client I've been involved with. That said generally speaking there isn't much threat intel about their methods and tools. Their targets tend to be repressive regimes who don't share intelligence. If they were going after major US corporations typically distilled intelligence from any activity typically makes its way somewhere - either into private intel feeds/ISACs or out via targeted law enforcement bulletins and other public/private info sharing forums.

That said, if it is a advanced actor group like a NATO or other offensive cyber military unit they usually over time develop a fingerprint of some sort. Advanced actor groups tend to re-use tools, techniques, etc. to gain and exploit access. So you'd expect if it was something advanced we'd see them pick up on that fingerprint and respond with a step up in cyber attacks on western targets or open accusations. We aren't seeing much evidence of that. It doesn't mean it isn't happening but the theory these are a loose collection of randos holds up for the moment as the most likely but still not the only explanation.
