Anyone seen The Man from Earth? From the stuff Ive watched of it it seems a cheap to make movie with a interesting story. Its basically a campfire story movie set in one place...a house out by itself. The story revolves around a Professor who is retiring with quite a story to tell and perhaps a very long history.

I don't remember if I posted a review in Watcha Watchin or not. It's worth a watch if the synopses appeals to you, but it's pretty low budget and feels a bit like a glorified play. I recall some reader reviews that heralded it as a cerebral sci-fi classic but I wouldn't consider it that exactly.

The origin of the story and its writer are interesting aspects. There's a sequel (I haven't seen it) that got mediocre reviews, probably because the concept didn't really invite a sequel.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

I don't remember the movie well but I did like it. I like plays, too. A script that calls for very few actors and locations can work equally well on stage or screen.

We got Little B 13.0 a phone for her birthday last Friday. It’s something I’ve been dreading, but was becoming rather necessary as she gets more involved in multiple activities. We’ve had endless discussions about appropriate usage, privacy concerns, online safety, etc. We have all sorts of parental restrictions set up on it as well.

Still, today was her first day taking it to school and I was nervous about it. Would she get busted using it in class? Would it be a distraction? Would she lose it?

Got my first text message from her a few minutes ago, and have to admit that it melted my blackened heart a bit.
Hey dad! On my way to rehearsals in a minute or two. (It’s the end of 7th period and we got some free time). Love u! Hope that if you had a good day! I’ll see you at 6
Y’know…I think she’ll be ok. 😊

I will frequently use "Name three 'Under the radar' movies that you would recommend" as a conversation starter.
My three include The Man From Earth, Frailty, and Sushi Girl

Interestingly, Tony Todd (Candyman) is in two of those three.

It would be a conversation ender for me. If it's under the radar I haven't seen it and have little interest unless it's a perfect niche film. Bye. I might watch 6 movies a year. No time for experimentation.

Similar for me when people bring up poke bowls as an ice breaker. Like fuck off, mango doesn't belong in salad and edamame should only ever be an appetizer in Japanese restaurants. Relationship concluded.

My grandmother used to put butter on PB&J's. The first time I ate it, I spit it out, the butter was just too much.

Grilled PB&J, fine. Cold butter on cold bread w/PB&J? No way.

Cold butter sandwiches are great. I started with them as a kid and chiffon margarine. Chiffon had a unique flavor to it no other butter had. Loved them. Chiffon got discontinued sometime in the 90s as I recall and I couldn't find a good substitute so stopped bothering. I found Land O Lakes to have a sorta same taste just not as good and have ate a few over the years. Not like I did as a kid though.

The correct answer of what to have with a Monte Christo is fried sauerkraut balls. At Bailey’s. With craft beer. At Origins Game Fair.

Man wrenches seem more expensive by a lot more than they should be these days. I had a favorite wrench in the 90s. It was a double ended box wrench. It fit all our push mower blade bolts and nuts. Ive lost it over the years. Looking at them online they are $25 -$35 or so. Ouch...for 1 wrench.

Don't look at them online, unless its at a place with fixed prices. Do you have a Harbor Freight nearby? You can get a full set for less than that (just don't leave them out in the rain - or the air.)

When I was four or five, my sister was making me PB&J. I always preferred strawberry preserves for mine. That day, for whatever reason, the tiny child that I was decided that I wanted pickle relish on it. I loved pickle relish, so why not? My sister said no. I insisted! Finally she agreed, but told me that if she made it, I'd have to finish it. So, bread, peanut butter, strawberry preserves, and drained sweet pickle relish.

I loved it.

44 years later and I still eat it. I introduced it to my kids, and they both got hooked. It's completely counterintuitive, but it pulls off the sweet + tangy combo like a charm.
