My initial reaction to the new Russian crew boarding the ISS in their yellow and blue jumpsuits was that they were saying "All your Ukraine belong to us!" however I felt that perhaps my cynicism was unwarranted. But maybe...

So how do Russian cosmonauts feel about Russia’s war on Ukraine?

The attire raised a lot of eyebrows, and it was not immediately clear why the cosmonauts wore the uncharacteristically yellow flight suits. Subsequently, there were news stories and opinions expressed on social media that the cosmonauts had worn the suits in protest of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

While this seems possible, it is improbable. There are two main reasons why. First of all, the flight suits for these missions are packed literally months in advance of a launch, so they would have had to have been made in 2021, long before an invasion seemed imminent. Secondly, many—if not most—cosmonauts appear to support the invasion of Ukraine.

Here are three possible explanations for the flight suits:

It's a coincidence: The official explanation from the Russian space corporation, Roscosmos, is that "sometimes yellow is just yellow." Roscosmos noted that the three cosmonauts had all attended Bauman Moscow State Technical University, which has school colors similar to the flight suits. This is the simplest explanation and therefore the most likely. Working against this theory is that the color of the flight suits is much closer to the yellow and blue of the Ukraine flag than the technical school.

It really was a protest: If the cosmonauts were truly trying to send a signal to the Russian people, wearing the colors of Ukraine would be a powerful way to show solidarity. During the post-docking news conference with Russian media, Oleg Artemyev was asked about the color of the suits. In response, he joked about surplus yellow fabric. He did not mention the Bauman connection. However, orchestrating the recent fabrication of these flight suits, and getting them surreptitiously packed on board Soyuz during a late-load process, would have required a lot of traceable activity in Baikonur.

Failed propaganda: Finally, there is a darker theory. It's possible that the yellow flight suits were a failed propaganda effort by the Russian government. As a Twitter user noted Friday, the launch date for this Soyuz mission was March 18, the day when Russia "celebrates" its annexation of the Crimean peninsula. It seems possible that a ceremony had been planned to celebrate the Russian "de-Nazification" of Ukraine or some other nonsense, but due to the failure of the Russian military to quickly install a puppet government, this "celebration" could not take place on March 18.

That last one feels about right.

I don't like Ted Cruz, but I'm so pissed at airlines right now so I understand his ire.

Southwest gave away my seats last weekend even though we were at the gate before it was fully boarded and after they had delayed it for an hour. A United flight attendant said they were all having difficulties moving their flight crews around and so are being very liberal with the 10 minute boarding rule. To be fair, I was not angry enough to need the police called.

At the same time, there were 4 others they gave seats away (though, by their demeanor, they might have volunteered), and canceled another couple's flight to the bahamas within 2 hours of boarding.

Yeah, Howley is smart but has absolutely no morals. I would say Geitz is relatively smart as well, but has even less morals. Boebert, Greene and Cawthorn are in the too stupid to know that they're stupid camp and their evilness comes from that and a lack of empathy. (Mix in some racism for good measure too).

I haven't been keeping an eye on the Lincoln Project for a long time, so I had sort of forgotten they are still a thing. The war is being botched because Biden is doing too much too little at any given point and he is forcing Ukranians to suffer at the hands of Putin whose war is not our concern, causing out of control inflation, the stock market to crash, the destruction of the American oil industry who, in a free market, should not have to drill more and cannot drill more because they can't frack and are being forced to exercise leases on public lands that they cannot drill on when they should be returning capital to share holders because ESG has forced them not to produce when they weren't making money in global production knowing full wall EVs won't disrupt energy demand. Thank Musk for stepping up to straighten this out. Free market and free speech!

All I hear from MAGAland is how all this war and annoying stuff is causing gas prices to rise for their pickup trucks and its all Biden's fault. Thats all it is to them. Some kids died?..Shame, but my truck needs gas and its too high.

As for that video I cant even listen to that. They are SO evil and dumb it just makes me want to strangle them.

My father-in-law is a MAGA guy and one of his daughters-in-law is Ukrainian. He met her family and attended their wedding in Ukraine. He sent money to her family to help them flee to Poland. I am curious if this changes his perspective at all. I don't expect it to.
