It feels like it's a right of passage - going from absolutely loathing the horde to actually enjoying it. Glad you pushed through.

Well, I've done it. I beat the main story. What an epic ride!
Spoiler:
Almost didn't make it via the boss fight. I was getting frustrated that they would easily swarm me, even on easy. That was as long as I stayed in place, then on one of my tries I decided to start moving around to different cover, which worked, and I eventually was able to get them all.

I know some complain about the difficulty spikes, but in this game, I really didn't mind them so much. It's kind of like life in general. You never expect life's challenges to be of the same difficulty, neither would you expect to just coast. Overall, I'm really glad I played it. It was a great experience from start to finish. Surprisingly, I think I like it better than Horizon Zero Dawn in terms of Sony open-world games. Surprises me even more now having played it that the studio didn't consider it a success. It was a very ambitious game, and It was a bold risk.

And now I'll be cleaning up the loose ends.

Oh yeah, I absolutely plan to. I'm invested in it at this point. I plan on at least also complete all of the nero checkpoints and maybe infestation zones too and the rest of the camps. Would it be worth doing the other hordes? How bad are they in relation to the story-related hordes?

Is there any point to continue to play after getting to the end(s)?
Or is it just to complete horde killing and any other missed things, such as historical markers and such?

Outside of the post credits missions and Platinum Trophy it's just more of the same. I ended up getting the Platinum and I don't think it took me too long to get it after the credits rolled. Maybe 5 hours.

Is it just me or do the sniper rifles have descriptions that make them sound like automatic rifles? They sound hilariously off.

The BFG for instance:

A real "one shot, one kill" weapon. Its large clip, rapid fire rate, no reloads and minimal recoil give this real "stopping power".

But the gun itself is not at all true to its description, aside from one shot one kill. Doesn't really have rapid fire rate, nor does it have 'no reloads' When I first bought it, I didn't realize it was a sniper rifle until later when I tried to use it. Feels very misleading.

Same with the SSR:

Rapid fire with no reload between shots makes this a great choice for frenetic combat encounters. Has a large clip size.

What the hell, man? They're very good sniper rifles, but not rapid fire no reload guns.

Ditto, i wrote the game off at first because of the mediocre reviews. But this is a game that the reviewers got wrong.

Yeah, agreed. I'm really glad I gave it a chance. Zombies aren't usually my cup of tea, so I wasn't sure if I'd like it, but I'm glad I stuck with it. My basis is that if a game manages to surprise me, it's done its job. The narrative was good enough to make me want to see it through, and the characters were compelling and quite realistic. When there are so many games that are derivative and following formula, it's nice to see something take a risk.

I would hope Sony takes another look at it in the future for a potential sequel, even if not with this particular dev.

I like the story beats for Deek and Boozer so far. There’s a decent integration of story into the gameplay, even if I would have rather skipped some parts.

In the end is this a game best controlled with a controller or keyboard & mouse? I just installed it and Id like to stick with whatever is best from the start rather than mess with switching later on and giving up.

I have only played on PS4, but the game seems well suited to a controller, especially motorcycle riding.

ok started playing. Got boozer back to base bad arm and all. I have a pistol and a crossbow.

I kinda wish the special senses thing lasted a tad longer and that the loot area was larger...have to stand right up on stuff to loot.

Im using mouse and keyboard for now. Seems ok.

I saved and when I exited it crashed. Not sure whats up with that.

Also I rebound those R and E keys for the wheel crafting but it didn't stick. Need to look closer at the key binds.

Cause like I said I hate starting a game only to find it controls bad with what I started with and then switch to the other . Then it never takes hold with me. Rather get the best from the start. So hearing opinions makes that choice easier.

So is this the type of game I should be scanning every 5 feet and looting each and every item or more a casual grab things as I go kinda game? Ive already noticed some things are redded out to me because I must have the max I can carry of them. I hate that the stuff I cant pick up still shows up as a mark when I scan.

Initially yes, but over time it will get easier and things will become more abundant. There's an upgrade that will give you twice the amount while scavenging.

Yeah, I'd forgotten that one. And I'll say this. The game does a good job making it feel like you're out in an apocalypse where resources are not in abundance. I like the fact that you have to carefully scavenge.

Ok Im back in and having a big fun time. Its my 3rd game now. I like the Far Cry like gathering so I can make bolts for my Xbow. Im finding bullets for the pistol and shotgun. Riding around I find fuel . Its all good so far.

I haven't figured out if I can take a gun back to the tower and store it in the gun cabinet yet. Also not sure which guns are best. I seems to be using a mishmash of weapons other than my Xbox. A pistol and a rifle usually..sometimes a AK sometimes a .22 and the pistol may be silenced or not.

Ok played more hours and having fun. But got some questions.

1. I see NPCs fishing. Can I ever do that .Would be a nice relaxing change.
2. Can I ever cook or is all the animals meat I collect just to raise relations with the camp?
3. Does the camp ever upgrade and get more merchants? I see places they could use.
4. Do I stick with my bike and upgrade it all game? I killed a marauder and could ride his bike and take it as mine. Should I ? Can I sell them?
5. I have looted new guns like an assault rifle and a sniper rifle and such. But even though Im wearing it I see no way to store or save it . Whats up?
6. Do story mission places slowly refill after doing them or just get some random enemies? I saw an old place i cleared with renegades fighting ghouls in it.

Those nero places went from the first one super easy to the next one KILLING ME repeatedly and running all my ammo out each try. Its orange but the rest of my missions are red so kinda all I have besides random encounters.

I kind of wandered away, but I'll try.

1. No
2. No
3. No
4. Stick with your bike. You can take other bikes, but I'd only do it if you need a ride and you aren't near your bike. I believe you can only upgrade your bike. Also, your bike is the only one that can be retrieved for you at towns. No, you can't sell them.
5. My memory is fuzzy on the guns, but I believe that the only ones you can swap in/out at shops are the ones that you've purchased. So while it might be worth it temporarily to pick up a weapon (like if you are out of ammo for your weapons), it isn't something you'd likely want to use for very long.
6. Not sure, but I don't think they would ever go back to their "story" state.

Assuming you are talking about the Nero camps that give you the syringes, the only advice I can give you is to make sure that you have cut the wires to all of the loud speakers. Seriously, go over it with a fine tooth comb. Follow all the power lines. If those start blaring, you are going to be in a world of hurt. But if you cut them, then you won't attract any attention when you fire the generators up. So all you'll have to deal with are the few/handful of zombies that are already in the area.
