I watched Band of Brothers just before watching the Pacific. I really enjoyed both but BoB was better.

Canned coke prices are getting really weird on Amazon. Delivery price for 24 can pack of Diet coke is hitting 14 dollar mark, while 24 pack diet Pepsi is remaining at about 10 dollar mark.

Band of Brothers was more closely tied to the real events than The Pacific. BoB was built from a single book tied to a single group's experiences. The Pacific was based on four separate books about four separate people that they combined and then 'filled in the gaps.' Some parts are more original fiction than others. That's not a criticism, as the result is still way more true to the real events than most 'based on a true story' historical films are.

I loved Band of Brothers and liked The Pacific. BoB had more impact for me because it has a cohesive story arc, while The Pacific felt more episodic.

I watched The Liberator earlier this week. It's also based on real events, although I don't know to what extent the story was embellished.

Weird... Does canned Diet coke lose flavor after a while?

I had a can that slipped under a desk and was left there for months (maybe a year?) I fridged it and just popped it now... Bland as ****. Even less taste than my Diet Pepsi, and I have no idea why. I wasn't aware that Nutrasweet can lose potency inside a metal can?!

Hmmm... Turns out that can was around a lot longer than I thought. The code under the can was APR0819..... which seems to say it's from... 3 years ago.

They bought me a 50" 4K UHD TV to see me off. Crazy kind of them, though part of not working is so I'll get up off my ass and get healthier. It is exposing a serious flaw in my never buy things philosophy of life. It has on traditional AV 1/8 inch connectors for my DVD player. My old fashioned TV broadcast does not scale well to 4K and the 4K doesn't scale back to the dark ages of things like 480i broadcasts but 50" a damned big image and the Switch and my laptop for streaming love it.

So now I'll have to find me second TV spot for the rare DVD viewing, because nothing says ostentatious like having two TVs in a one person household so you can continue to watch DVDs on a occasion.

Are these DVDs you own? Rip them and use Plex to stream them to your 4k TV.

After today, yes, but I'll be contracted for TBD plus I promised to write about 20 work instructions in the last month. I failed to complete them because I've done shit for work. I intend to honor that promise, even without being on payroll. Those instructions will also be at the core of my contracted work, attempting to train other people on some very narrow specialist stuff related to ERP/MRP. enough to keep the company hobbling along until they can make long term commitments on life without me.

When I was in the service my buddies used to tell my you could bring back an AK-47 if you poured lead down the barrel. The army said it was okay if you made the gun "inoperable".
Then my buddies said you could heat up the barrel and pour the lead out.
I was just now thinking about that and the melting point of lead is 621 degree F. How in the hell, for practicable purposes, is one going to heat the barrel up that high?

It depends on the lead. I have cast lead musket balls around a camp fire, and a standard propane torch will do it even quicker.

Google tells me the average campfire can get to 900f, and I am pretty sure history class told me that civil war soldiers melted lead at campfires to make musketballs.

I wouldn't think it would be that bad. We smelt lead from tire balances in old frying pans to make figures we'd cast from molds. I can only imagine a gun would act like frying pan when you heat it up. The lead beads up nice too, so it's not like it would mess up the barrel and cause problems with firing. That said, I wouldn't trust and try it.

Would you trust a gun barrel that you'd held at that heat for long enough to get all the lead out?

Incidentally, my grandfather came home from WW2 with a gorgeous curved knife and scabbard that he'd picked up in Tunisia. The Army made him cut the blade down to three inches before they allowed it on the ship home. I have no idea how he cut the blade, but he did it.

I have melted a lot of lead. There's a lot of difference from melts a few ounces of lead in a little pan than heating up a large gun barrel to get the lead out. How can you be sure to get all the lead out? How do you know whether the process damage the gun or not?
I would never trust that gun to shoot ever again.
Of course with the assembling of ghost guns now there's no need now or then.

I'd guess that most just fill the muzzle and breach ends of the barrel with 1/8th inch or so of lead (put in a plug, pour in enough lead to make it look good.) A good gunsmith could probably clear it out without too much hassle.

It really twists my tendrils when people say things like, "I ate at RESTAURANT X once many years ago and had food poisoning for three days. Never again!"

As if they have any idea if the restaurant caused their illness if it wasn't tested for contaminants. Plus, that's a silly reason not to try the restaurant again if you're so inclined, especially if it's a chain with other locations.

The one valid reason I can think of is if you'll always remember the taste of specific menu items negatively due to their violent expulsion from your body. But even then, what kind of bizarre crusade are you on, posting one-shot comments on their Facebook ad years later? I'm pretty sure I got norovirus at my mother-in-law's house. I don't talk trash every time she posts a cat video.

That's only ever been the case for booze for me. Tequila and SoCo (on separate occasions) are of technicolor yawn flavoring for me. They have that smell too.

I shunned the local House of Pizza for years after I got sick eating pizza and a side salad from there. I mean, violently expulsively sick. I was sure the salad had poisoned me, since Wife didn't have one and didn't get sick. I spent most of that night in the bathroom and felt punk for days afterward. Much later I realized that I'd been coming down with the flu that night, and the salad just triggered me. Now the restaurant's back in our takeout rotation, but it took years for me to overcome that association.

Not only that, having worked in security (the department also in charge of investigation and compensation of complaints) in a casino with eight restaurants, I can tell you that the public doesn't know food poisoning from any of the other issues that have similar symptoms. Anything makes them feel bad or expel anything from either end, and it's obviously food poisoning, regardless of how long it's been.

Also, be very careful with the pull-and-peel shrimp.

It's odd how actors back in the 30s acted like they were acting. Where as now a days actors try to act realistic. Not that they succeed all the time.
But I really like watching the 30s movies and their phony acting.

Actors in the 30s were stage actors, and the only style of acting was stage acting. They generally exaggerated their movements and expressions because an audience in front of a stage doesn't get close-ups. Subtlety is invisible when you're 50 feet away.

As film became popular, new styles of acting were developed.

Apparently the whiff a really quitting means something to WOW. They have service my Internet to no effect how many time over the years. Today a tech came on site to replace the cabling end to end to my house. My Internet speed is 5x what it was before he came and this morning it was behaving exceptionally well. For the first time ever I have something nice to say about WOW since it started going up in price from $40 to eventually $175. Now I'm back down to $100 and the service, at least for the moment, isn't utter shite.
