MMO Question

This is kind of to all of the 4X Space guys out there. I believe the closest that I ever got to a 4X MMO game was Planetarion. It was a browser based game, where you basically owned a planet within a solarsystem with 14 other people. You build up your planet found resources and built up your fleet. It was a semi turn based game the entire game was based on ticks, where a turn ended every hour. So you built up your fleet and with research and who you were attacking depended on how long it took your fleet to get there. IE 4 hours to go to someone within your system, up to 12 hours to get to someone outside your system. It was a very good game even with the restrictions of it being browser based.

Some day hopefully someone will try to do it in a 3d eviroment. Would be a fabulous day.

I guess my question would be would it be possible to get something similar to that in an MMO form?

Like ok, let me try to make this a little clearer. Every MMO out there you control 1 person. The general premise of an MMO is that you are 1 person in an entire world. Well when every single MMO out there with the semi exception of Shattered galaxy, is just you are 1 man in an entire world with the ability to control the outcome.

Well what if I don't want to be 1 guy? What if I want to control an entire continent or an entire planet, or an entire galaxy? I mean yes you are still 1 guy but you control all the other little guys. You have people that you CAN'T control. You throw fleets or armies at some other person in the game, and you can't directly control the outcome.

See what I mean? I want a 4X MMO. Is there one out there, or is there one in the making?

Whatever happened to Stars! anyhow? Last I saw was Stars! 2, but that was back in the day.

a sequel to Stars! was in development forever but it was put on permanent hold due to lack of publisher interest.
