The guy who lambasted "Hot Coffee" claims Sims 2 is a pedophile's dream come true

That's about as stupid as it can be. Since when is a company responsible for WRONGFUL USE of their product? What's next? Adobe and Sony getting sued for porn because their programs/equipment were used?

Heh, this Thompson guy knows that he has to strike when the iron is hot...

The media is falling all over themselves to pile-on GTA, could the Sims be next...or how about your favorite game? The ESRB is a joke. It never should have been created. When it was created, I said it would lead to censorship, publishers would force developers to get that "T" rating by removing content. That has happened all the time and now we have this whole BS situation.

Rockstar was stupid for leaving something like that in the game. Now they have brought the weight of the world down on our hobby. It's going to be a rough couple of years...

I don't see how the Sim 2, or, really, any other game could be used as an arguement the way San Andreas was. Simply because there is no substence to any arguement you make with them. And while the media is big on vapid arguements, something like game cencorship doesn't polarize people enough to result in months long content for news outlets.

It helps that the initial statement he made about the Sim 2 was completely ignorant and, obviously, wrong. The only way you could argue in agreement with this person is if you advocate elimitating the ability to mod games altogether. This just can't be done. If you tried something like encrypting the data files... Well, the key and code used to decrypt them has to be somewhere on the users system.

It doesn't hurt that, I believe, EA would have a very secure libel suit if this character tried to take his current line too far, as hes simply talking out of his ass. It's quite clear his intention is to harm gaming for personal gain.

He must be playing the European version.

Unfortunately, all you have to be is loud to make people listen to you - You don't actually have to have anything worthwhile to say. There are serious issues surrounding videogames, and yet we continue to ignore them, instead giving press to people who obviously don't know what they're talking about. I really wish the big news sites would have seen this story (the Sims 2 thing), realized it had no merit, and simply not reported it.
