I think that is the first Stevie Wonder song Id call downright horrible.

Clearly you've never listened to the Secret Life of Plants. A couple of the tracks were decent. Most were awful. I think we had it on 8 track.

Wow, Ok, I had no idea. I still think Coolio managed to make a better song out of it. And I still stand by with what I said about 90's Rap being generally better.

Disagree. Coolio ended up with a much more interesting song out of it

Re: R.I.P. The thread of death....celebrity or otherwise
She was almost another member of my parent's household when I was a kid. They listened to nothing but Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and all the other classic country singers when I was growing up (even if Wanda Jackson's incomparable voice caused me to have wicked thoughts as a kid). I will always appreciate that style of music, even if I grew away from it as I got older. There's so much heart in most of it.

I didn't come to appreciate Loretta Lynn until Van Lear Rose, but boy do I love that album. R.I.P.

Hard to miss her as much because I haven't really heard anything from her in decades. Last I saw was her and Jack White doing that music really. A legend though. Coal Miners Daughter was one of my wife's favorite movies. I can still hear my wife cracking up at the part where Loretta tells the on air radio shes horny. RIP girl. She always seemed so humble and sweet. And she really never changed from all the stardom. Thats rare.

Yeah, a true legend of country music lost. Bummer, even though I knew she was getting on up there in years. My first exposure to her was through the Coal Miner's Daughter movie. As a big fan of classic country, I grew up listening to her stuff. I was really excited when Van Lear Rose came out and she had that comeback. Awesome album.

This is weird. Ive never heard of Wanda Jackson. You'd think being born in 69 and loving rock and roll Id have heard of her at least. Fine looking and sounding woman. Wow. Found me some new music. Well new old music.
Dad shoulda been all over that. I dont remember him mentioning her.

Okay...NOW I get it.
Her voice is the template that most women in rock should at the very least listen to for inspiration. That growling voice. Oh baby.

Did not see the Loretta Lynn news till seeing it here. She was 90 I read but even though that is a good long lived life, this is very sad to me. A real talent that I did not appreciate when the songs were new, being a hippie punk rocker kid. I did however come to love her talent. As for Wanda, she is the bomb.

AP News
Judy Tenuta, a brash standup who cheekily styled herself as the “Goddess of Love” and toured with George Carlin as she built her career in the 1980s golden age of comedy, died Thursday. She was 72.
Tenuta died Thursday afternoon at home in Los Angeles, with her family around her, publicist Roger Neal told The Associated Press. The cause of death was ovarian cancer.

I love that there are at least three different birth years listed for her on various sites. She would never tell anyone her real age.

Tenuta had claimed her birthdate as Nov. 7, 1965, but she was born in 1949, Neal said. “She was old school so she would never tell her real age, but now that she’s gone we can tell her real age,” he added.

Re: R.I.P. The thread of death....celebrity or otherwise
Was watching some Youtube videos of her from the 80s and it uh...has not aged well. I didn't really remember her stuff as being racist and homophobic, but I guess that was par for the course during a long stretch of time back then. She was still funny and in seeing her act, I was reminded of how much Rosanne Barr seemed to "borrow" from her. Anyway, I hadn't thought of Judy in a long time and she probably deserved more credit. RIP.

Yeah, I often find that comedy I remember as being hilarious 30 or so years ago isn't really all that funny when I watch it now. Still, Tenuta, Emo Phillips (her husband for a while), Sam Kinison and Bobcat Goldthwait were some of my favorites back in the day.
I remember almost laughing until I puked watching Goldthwait debuting on Letterman all those years ago.
