If Im going to go see Avatar 2 in Jan I need to watch Avatar 1 I guess. Ive only watched video clips. I get the movie but would be nice to fill in the missing story and such before going to the 2nd one. Im not super interested in them story wise but am the technology and 3d . I heard the first was amazing so thats why Ill go see 2.

I have surgery on Tuesday and they want me to bring in my CPAP machine. They were quite annoyed when I said no. Said I couldn't have surgery. I said okay.Then they hmmed and hawed around and went around with the rest of the interview.

They don’t want you to suffocate after. Positive airflow reduces your risk.

I can understand that, but I have serious concerns that they would want you to have to rely on some machine that they haven't certified, sanitized and calibrated. For all they know your machine might be held together with baling wire and chewing gum. And of course your machine might "walk off" while you're in the john or taking a walk.

Patients with CPAP at home are often asked to bring their machine in case they need to use it while waking up in recovery. Residuals anesthetic and the effects of opioids given during the surgery and recovery period can exaggerate the severity of obstructive sleep apnea, and the easiest way to deal with that is to have you use your CPAP from home. The number of patients coming to the operating room with a history of OSA has risen dramatically as the general population becomes more obese and we're more proactive about making the diagnosis. A smaller hospital (or sometimes even large ones) can't have enough machines on-hand to deal with all the patients who might benefit from its use in the recovery room. Combine that with the fact that it's much easier to just hook someone up to their own machine that has already been adjusted for them, with a mask or nosepiece that fits comfortably, and asking people to bring their own equipment is by far the easiest solution.

In the hospital where I work, any patient with a diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea is required to pass a 60-minute "room air trial" before leaving recovery. This means that they have to maintain an oxygen saturation >90% for the entirety of a 60 minute observation period while resting/sleeping in recovery. If they fail the room air trial, the next step is to wear CPAP for an hour, then repeat the room air trial. Patients who fail again spend the night in the hospital to sleep off their anesthesia, in a location where they can be monitored closely. Almost all are fit to go home the next day... usually just takes time.

Well, sure, now that you explain it I understand

. Is there some concern about internal cleanliness of the CPAP machine? And is there some certification test to verify flow rate?

And sorry to be so reactionary

. My wife has has some bad experiences in hospitals and I tend to be pessimistic anyway

When I woke up after my kidney surgery in 2019 I was surprised at how hard taking in a deep breath was at the start. They gave me one of those little breating test things to use. Ive seen people have to blow into them to keep that little ball up but me I had to suck..haha wee words sounding funny....anyways I could barely do much right away. I woke up the previous evening but fell back asleep all night. They gave me that test thing the next morn and told me I couldn't leave until I could do such and such amount of breath. It took me hours to go from barely anything to a full almost normal ability again. And I have no lung issues. I think I left about 2pm.

It just surprised me how crappy I was at the start. I expected nothing to change after a surgery like mine.

Especially when I'm old enough to remember that at one point the music industry actually changed/censored album covers over Wal-Mart refusing to sell specific artists.

Ya I remember how Walmart was in controlling stuff. Hated it even if I wasn't interested in the stuff it was a bad practice. I think i recall magazines being targeted once and of course music.

I loath short hair dry power cords. Hated one before and now this one. We'd used one my wife got for at least 10 years when a year ago the fan bearings started going out. So last month I bought a cheap conair almost like it at Walmart for $9. It is a great hair drying in that it blows hard and hot and works really fast. But the cord is MAAaaaaybe 4' if lucky. Im 6' tall and I have to either bend over which messes hair drying up, squat in the floor which my back hates, or sit in a chair and have no mirror.

I didn't discover the cord until now when I went to dry my hair and about ripped the outlet out when I ran out of cord. Why must they do this? How much would another 2' - 3' of cord really cost them? Id pay a bit more for more cord reach. I will check the box next time...I may see about returning this one and find a longer cord one.

Maybe Ill just find an extension cord.

I shudder to think what your bathroom looks like. In 50+ years, I have never lived somewhere that did not have a plug near the sink, at about waist height, or a bit higher. 4 feet of cord is more than enough for every bathroom I've ever been in.

However, since you apparently live in Frankenhouse, do you own a small hand mirror? Seems likely your wife had one, at least. Just use that in a different part of the house. Or just dry by touch. Are you trying to do some fancy styling?

That was my thought. Hair dryers (like practically every other electric grooming tool) are designed for plugs that are 3+ feet off of the ground. Even my 130-year-old house has outlets over the sink. Not enough outlets, but they're there.

Lol you're all jokers. I have no outlets in the bathroom. Never were any. And the sink has been gone for about 25 years. There is a mirror over where the sink was

But we always used the mirror in the kitchen. My wife did her makeup at the kitchen table due to the best lighting and we all dried out hair in there too because theres a medicine cabinet with mirror there by the back door.

I just measured the outlets I can get to in this house. They are all 1' off the floor. Well the very bottom of the outlet is at the 1' mark on my measuring tape.

Oh and I dont usually use one but its icy here and my hair is to my shoulder blades. So didn't want to be out with wet hair working on the heater under the porch

I own a super cheap (as in CAD $10, so maybe even cheaper than Daehawk's) Conair hair dryer solely because I had a problem with my freezer repeatedly icing up a couple of years ago and I needed to defrost it. A cheap travel hair dryer was a lot more affordable than a heat gun, and it worked great for the specific job at hand.

I never had any issues with the cord length, but then there is an outlet above the kitchen counter right beside the refrigerator, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There is a hair dryer in the restroom, but I don't think I've used it in a couple years. My hair dries very quickly and I try to keep it relatively short.

Whats this new YouTube video link you get with Google? Used to be after the search it popped up small thumbnail videos that linked straight to YT if you clicked them.

Now it looks all the same but when you click the little preview of the video it opens the video in a almost generic mostly white background . If you're playing the video there and leave the tab it stops playing. So you have to click the little text link in top of the video and then it takes you to Yt like always.

Its a YT player of some sort as the url is still YT but to get to what seems ACTUAL YT you have extra work. I like to play music vids and then go web surfing. But now its double work.
