I'm going to come right out and say it - I'm predicting this movie's going to be awesome. The teaser feels like they captured the tone of the cartoon which was awesome, Ryan Gosling has great comedic chops, and Greta Gerwig is a brilliant director.

The director has never done fluff, and she has been nominated for three Oscars. (Her best known movies are Lady Bird and Little Women).

I think the surreal 2001/Kubrick reference here is an attempt to declare high satire. This probably won't be a typical Rom-Com.
Haven't seen Lady Bird, but we have seen Little Women and it was good. That said, this kind of thing would probably only work if it wasn't taking itself seriously. And judging from the trailer, it looks like it's off to a great start. But at the same time, I have to wonder about the target audience. If Moms are taking their daughters to see this, they'll likely be disappointed.

I mean, Greta Gerwig's co-screenwriter here is Noah Baumbach, whose output is always intellectually engaged and weird and whose latest product is a Netflix adaptation of Don DeLillo's hugely iconic postmodern novel White Noise.

Yeah, I'm not too familiar with his work, or that novel.

FWIW, the font is the same from the books on which Fletch is based (at least the paperback versions I've seen).
Wife and I watched Confess, Fletch on New Year's Eve (we know how to party), and I was surprised how much I liked it. I've read the book, but it was probably 30+ years ago so I can't say how it compares to the movie. My trailer concerns about Hamm doing a Chevy Chase impersonation were thankfully misplaced. There were some fun nods to the Chase version, but overall it was very much its own thing and I thought it worked.

My son and I were considering seeing this one, but a 9% score on rotten squashed that. Will watch on the small screen for comic relief.

Trailer seems very spoiler-y. Would suggest you not watch if interested in the movie. Interested in someone's feedback if they take the plunge.
Sims 3 and signature unclear.
