Just got back. It was a fun ride. Delivered on what I wanted. So I'm happy.

I'll be interested in your take. I was really blown away by some of the cinematography. But I'm not a big film buff, so I'm never quite sure if it's because it's really good, or because I'm a "hick from the country". :D

I also really enjoyed the acting. I thought it was solid all the way around.

If you haven’t seen the director’s earlier film, Rare Exports, then treat yourself.

I really love foreign action and horror films. They don’t have the budget we often have, so they tend to get imaginative.

Seen it. Multiple times. Have a copy now. So it'll become a Christmas tradition. :csmile:

I'm with you on the foreign action, but I'm not a fan of horror. So I tend to skip the "harder" ones. I did enjoy The Witch. And Train to Busan. Zombie movies tend to toe the line sometimes between horror and action. Depends on the movie.

To me it looks like something that is a real thing but made to look the way it does...like artistic license..sorta real sorta cgi animated. It could be a real thing being made and I wouldn't know the difference. Just here thats a lot of talent to have to pay for something that might not do well at the box office is the only thing I have to judge its a fake thing totally and not being made. I mean I know it isn't now but it could well have been.

This is the second or third Wes Anderson parody I've seen recently.

They're... interesting, but spoiled by the fact that I have no idea who Wes Anderson is (beyond 'guy who makes movies.')

I'm in the same boat. I don't enough about Wes Anderson as a filmmaker to get how the fake trailers are made "in the style of" in any way.

For example, both the Star Wars and LotR trailers that I saw have a segment listing things that will be needed. Is that a Wes Anderson thing, or just part of the template the AI followed in scripting the trailers? I have no idea.

The things needed strike me as part of whats actually needed from the book or script for the characters but also as RPG elements somehow.

As for the Wes 'style' :
Wesley Wales Anderson is an American filmmaker. His films are known for their eccentricity, unique visual and narrative styles, and frequent use of ensemble casts. They often contain themes of grief, loss of innocence, and dysfunctional families.

He's wildly popular in the indie film scene primarily, but he has had more than his share of acclaim and recognition in mainstream circles as well. I would say he's well known enough that more people understand what's going on than not with these videos.

I think the LotR one would be a better thing if made real in that style.

It's actually dead on visually and with the cast of Anderson regulars. Owen Wilson got an audible chuckle out of me. The narration was off to my ear, though.

I'm pretty sure the narration is synthetic rather than an actual voice actor. It's better than most robovoices, but still seems a bit in the uncanny valley to me.

The Creator

Amid a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, Joshua, a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife, is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war—and mankind itself.
