Today I learned that when your three pounds of honey turns to crystal you can soak the container warm water for a few hours and it will liquefy again. Kinda cool, and cool I didn't have to throw away most of an $8 container of honey that turned to crystal waaaaay fast.

Rained good today and humid. Like a jungle out there. Theres dragonflies on my front porch. I love those bugs. One sat on my finger for a moment before flying up to sit on my window frame. Cool little creatures. I wouldn't harm anything for any reason.

Never gave any thought to a dish drainer. Until now that I need one. My old one is breaking apart and I need a new one. Walmart or Amazon would seem to work. But there are many factors to these things.

Which way do they drain? How many dishes will it hold? Is the silverware caddy in the right spot? IS it big enough?

I dont want to pay $50 for a piece of plastic to let my hand washed dishes dry in. I also dont want to pay $15 for a floppy unsturdy piece of crap. It needs to be big and strong and cheap. The unreachable trifecta. I already looked in Walmart. Either too small or drained the wrong direction to the plates for me. OCD engaged captain!

Decades ago, when I lived alone and was very tight on money, I just had a towel folded in half on the side of the sink and kept my few things cleaned and drying on that, after casually drying by hand first.

Lots of people still do that. They even make special towels for just that.

We don't have Grubhub in Canada, but my understanding is that they're just like Door Dash and Uber Eats in terms of delivering restaurant food.

We subscribe to the Uber Eats membership thing month-to-month sometimes. I'd say it saves us $2.5-$5 per order (for two people, though some delivery fees are flat), but we have to order 4-5 times for it be worthwhile. Though you also get small discounts on their car rides and grocery deliveries. Now, I have no idea what the Grubhub deal is, but I imagine it's similar. Do you use them frequently enough to warrant it? Every month? Or I guess, do you use it at least half of its value each month considering you're getting half the months for "free"? And you really want to be saving more than the membership costs or there's just no point.

As I understand it, the Grubhub+ membership is completely free for the duration of the offer, so there isn't any real reason not to sign up for it if you are already subscribed to Prime. If you don't use it, it costs you nothing. If you try it and decide it's too expensive, you don't have to keep using it. Just be sure you cancel it before the free subscription expires, or they'll probably automatically renew it when it runs out.

I'd also check the fine print to make sure that it will be cancelled if you cancel your Prime subscription, and that it won't be converted to a paid subscription for the balance of the period.

We have a dishwasher, but still wash a number of things by hand. We have a double sink - wash on one side, rinse on the other - they lay the items on a towel. After the towel is full, we hand dry them with a second towel. Continue until dishes are finished.

When the kids were little and people gave them particularly noisy gifts, we'd store them somewhere inconvenient. We wouldn't take them away or hide them, but we'd put it where they'd have to ask, "Daddy, can I play with the [whatever]?" And we'd always say yes. But out of sight is out of mind, and quite often they'd forget they had it after a couple of sessions.

Big milestone today. I'm turning 70 in three months and so today we went to the local Social Security Office to activate my retirement benefits. My wife decided back when I was turned 65 to postpone it so we would got a higher monthly income when I finally had to activate it at 70. Due to a quirk in the SSA laws I've been able to get an amount equal to 50% of hers for the past five years but that would go away on my 70th birthday anyway.

We could have done this online or over the phone but my wife is the business manager of the family and she wanted to get some details. But at least that milestone is out of the way. Our next milestone is her rotator cuff surgery just after Independence Day

007 Director Calls Henry Cavill’s James Bond Audition ‘Tremendous’

Henry Cavill’s 007 audition was tremendous” according to Casino Royale director, Martin Campbell.

During an interview with The Express, the filmmaker revealed new details about Cavill’s 007 screen test.

“He looked great in the audition,” he said. “His acting was tremendous. And look, if Daniel didn’t exist Henry would have made an excellent Bond. He looked terrific, he was in great physical shape… very handsome, very chiseled. He just looked a little young at that time back then.”
Famously, Cavill just missed out on the role of 007 back when casting for the 2006 hit, Casino Royale, took place. The role, of course, went to Daniel Craig. However, Campbell thinks Cavill simply missed his time to play the iconic British superspy. At the time, Cavill was only 23, so his casting would have made him the youngest Bond yet.

From the comments he made when he announced his Warhammer 40K project, I think Cavill is at a stage in his career where he's more interested in controlling a production rather than just being an actor; he wants to be the boss, not an employee. If that is the case, he's probably a bad fit for the Bond franchise even if he's aged into the role itself.
