Two years older than me too. I remember hearing Nothing Compares 2 You coming back through Chattanooga from Nashville. That and Billy Idols Cradle of Love. We were driving around moccasin bend.

I thought she had an amazing voice for that song..like an angel. I saw a video of her singing it live on some talk show recently....not sure how long ago it was for her..not long ago...and she sounded horrible to me. I thought she'd lost her singing voice. And she looked kinda bad. Sad she is gone though. Too young so you may be right on the suicide. She did have many problems.

I still remember getting a laugh when she tore up the pope's pic on that late night show. Not sure who it was now. RIP.

This story about Kris Kristofferson and Sinead made me smile. Have a bit of newfound respect for the man. Also, sounds like he was a better song writer than I thought.

Days later, she appeared at an all-star tribute for Bob Dylan at Madison Square Garden and was immediately booed. She was supposed to sing Dylan’s “I Believe in You,” but switched to an a cappella version of Bob Marley’s “War,” which she had sung on “Saturday Night Live.”

Although consoled and encouraged on stage by her friend Kris Kristofferson, she left and broke down, and her performance was kept off the concert CD. (Years later, Kristofferson recorded “Sister Sinead,” for which he wrote, “And maybe she’s crazy and maybe she ain’t/But so was Picasso and so were the saints.”)

read her memoir last year - she is an excellent story teller, going from heartbreaking to hilarious and back

finally got to see her in concert in February 2020 on one of her rare US tours - very glad i made that (tho i was somewhat underwhelmed by the setlist)

Wow, right before all Hell broke loose. I had no idea she had 10 albums. One hates to see a greatest hits from the first three albums with that much material but they are all I'd know.

I think Sinbad is a reference to some SNL skits back in the day that had Frank Sinatra poking fun at Sinead, calling her cue ball, Mr. Clean, etc.

Yeah it made me look. He had a stroke a couple years ago that prevented him from doing a cameo in Shazzam. A Mandela Effect callback denied.

I noticed, but I never really liked SNL and rarely watched it, so I didn't get what relevance it had.

I've watched my share of SNL over the years, and I'm old enough that I possibly even watched that skit when it aired, but I just didn't remember it. It didn't help that Sinead and Sinbad are just one character off, but that's probably why the writers came up with that specific zinger in the first place.

I probably saw it too and dont remember. I do remember Phil playing Sinatra a few times. But I also didn't like SNL. So unfunny to me. I only saw it a hand full of times since the early or mid 80s. I always thought that after Dan, John, and Eddie and the gang left it was no longer fun to me.

I didn't see it mentioned here (possibly another thread I just didn't read), but Rocky Wirtz, Blackhawks owner, died at 70. While his father Bill was a vindictive asshole who would cut off his nose to spite his face and was widely considered the worst owner in professional sports, his son was everything you could ask for in a team owner. He was a pillar of the community, he immediately reversed the fortunes of a fading franchise, bringing 3 Stanley Cups to the city. Not sure who is going to take over the team now, but hopefully they expand on everything Rocky has done.

Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee Herman) Dead at 70

This one sucks. Pee Wee's Big Adventure is one of my favorite comedies of all time. I can still recite almost every line word for word.

I first encountered Pee-Wee from his adult HBO comedy special. As a kid the sexual jokes went over my head but the whole character fascinated me. And even though I was a little too old for the target audience of Pee Wee's Playhouse, I still watched every episode.

He was absolutely a comedic genius.

I just saw the news too. This one hits hard because Pee Wee was a huge part of my childhood, waking up every Saturday morning and making sure I was in front of the tv in time for Pee Wee's Playhouse. I loved him as a kid, and he was absolutely hilarious when I saw the Pee Wee Hernandez Show live on Broadway in 2010. Regardless of some bad press along the way, I've never seen him as anything other than a uniquely funny, kind, accepting person who wanted nothing more than to make people laugh.

I also grew up on the HBO special. Phil Hartman as Captain Carl, and several other famous people were in that troop.

Just a few years ago I was fortunate enough to work at the same school as "Ricardo the soccer player", Vic Trevino. He was our theater teacher, and he was awesome. He told me many stories about you had to be on your toes around Paul, because you literally never knew what he was going to do or say, no matter what the script or rehearsals said.

This sucks. I hope they're able to spread his ashes in the basement of the Alamo.

I have an acquaintance who met Paul Reubens through the convention circuit. Even though they really only saw each other at the cons once or twice a year, he would get a happy birthday text from Paul every year on his birthday. I've seen a couple of other posts from various people who knew him saying the same thing.

(tho i did move on to Mystery Science Theater 3000 at the end of 1988, when it first started - that was my Sunday evening ritual until it went off the air/moved to Comedy Central - didn't have cable)

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure is still one of the funniest-ever movies, in my book. Paul Reubens x Tim Burton really worked as comedy gold somehow... one of the few i still have on VHS
