Good thread on today’s hearing:

Trump’s counsel to file claims of immunity from prosecution and selective prosecution.

Is this the most important trial in American history?

It should be noted that while neither Trump nor the government got the trial date they were originally requesting, the judgment is, ehh, much closer to the government's ask.

Another good thread from this morning.

This was necessary but it may or not get crazy. We shall see. As expected he won't hesitate to whip up another insurrection to protect himself. We'll just see if people show up to do it.

March 4th. March 24th is the financial records falsification trial. Which will more than likely be affected by the federal trial.

It seems like the punishments being meted out have had a chilling effect on further violence.

Also keep in mind they are being LOUD about security at these events. They are discouraging violence by highlighting their preparation. Does anyone think 1/6 happens the same way if they had prepared properly?

I don't get this very typical, and pretty consistent behavior from the higher up MAGAts...these guys are NOT stupid. They are obviously corrupt, and don't bat an eye at doing "whatever it takes" whether that breaks norms, boundaries or laws, probably because like Trump, they can't even conceive of getting caught. Or the "payout" is too big compared to the risk of being caught. They KNOW they are doing wrong.

So WTF is up with this absurdity:

"Meadows said, “There is a role for the chief of staff to make sure those campaign goals and objectives are implemented at the federal level.” :?:
As the author says:
"That’s balderdash; the Hatch Act prohibits such activity."

WTF was he thinking here? Is this 4D chess where he doubles down on pretending not to know what he did was wrong, by directly stating a lie that's easily debunked by the law?

I'm flummoxed, and maybe that's also one of his goals if whatever other legal spaghetti he throws at the wall doesn't stick.

The MAGA view is that the ends justify the means. Deny you’re doing wrong, and accuse the other side of doing it when you get caught. They don’t care about bold lies, or consistency, so long as it works enough to get a paycheck.

On a related note, a default judgement in favor of the plaintiffs was entered in the Gulisni defamation case of two Atlanta election film workers, for both actual and punitive damages. What was done to them because of Gulisni’s and Trump’s lies was unconscionable. They both had to quit their jobs, move for safety reasons, and one lady lost her side business. He deserves every bit of this pain.

It's also grammatically incorrect. It should be them's, or preferably, they's.

I'm a little confused, because my takeaway is that he (and a lot of other higher up MAGA types) *are* stupid. Or maybe more accurately, are way less smart than they think they are.
