Saitek x52 Joystick - Anyone have it?

Post by jpinard »

Now that Falcon 4 Allied Force is coming (and I have yet to play all my other flight sims), I need to think about a decent joystick/throttle.

Once that's caught my eye is Saitek's x52 http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/prod/x52.htm

Anyone here have experience with it? If so, how would medium sized hands fare with it?

Jakub at Firing Squad had a comparative review recently which included the X-52 and a CH HOTAS.

I have an X45, and it takes a little while to get used to, but now I love it. For the price, it's the best thing going. IT's just tough to remember all of the commands, but get it.. you won't regret it. Especially for Falcon 4... SO MANY
COMMANDS.

I've got it, and I like it a lot. I use it mainly for X2 and MS Flight Simulator. It's a good stick, I just wish they had a good calibration program for it.

What about the comments of it being "not too accurate"? Ad why do you need a calibration program? Does it have bad issues with centering?

I have it and use it a lot for games like Jumpgate, Freespace 2, and Terminus. At first I thought:

1. I'd miss the rudder rocker in the throttle
2. It was too loose.

Then as I got used to the stick, I found that its looseness offered a greater degree of control. I also am totally fine with the stick twist. I have smallish hands for a guy, and it feels fine. Overall, a great stick for the price, I think.

You can't adjust the throttle with a screw underneath? My X35 has a screw that you can turn to loosen or tighten the throttle. I love my stick btw had it for over 2 years without a problem. I wouldn't mind picking up some pedals at some point but that's probably pushing my luck right now.

I might try my steering wheel pedals though I heard that works pretty well in a pinch. With the new FM in Pacific Fighters I think I just might need it.

You can adjust the throttle tension.

And you can input rudder with the stick twist, which i've always thought worked very well on Saitek sticks, eliminating the need for pedals... I find the stick twist very precise and easy to use.

I just picked one up over the weekend. This is simply the best there is, the best there was, and there best there will ever be.

I recently picked up a refurbed X52 for ~$70 here, and I'm quite satisfied with it. They also have a refurbed X45 for ~$40, if you want to save some dough.

I love the x52.
I'm a longtime x45 user, and i prefer the 52 for the programming and button layout..

And honestly, I like the twist rudder (even after loathing them for years)
