Scoop20906 wrote: Tue Dec 05, 2023 5:15 pm Fun FACT. I didn't have a copy of the play that day. People have stole it from me. THREE TIMES. Therefore, when Hagrid has no reading material he goes out at night.

Nah.
That's simply not possible. I welcome you to try and weave a tale if you want to go through that effort, as I will admit - it's possible I missed a scenario early on and then ran down my own rabbit hole...

But that being said, here is my take on the events that have transpired...

note: Night 2 has some possible discrepancies. I've run through a couple of scenarios where Moliere was a thief who was killed on the night he stole the copy from Issy, but certain parts didn't survive some logical triangulation that I had in place. But I can't recall it now... Also, I have a couple of assumptions below, like Scoop would not murder a student he gave a copy of the play to, for instance, so if that assumption is off, a few other scenarios could be in play.

For this study, I will track copies of the play with numbers in parentheses.

Hildred/Scoop starts with Copy 1, or (1) as I will mark it.
Students will be numbered as they enter the story.
Some students will be marked as thieves.

NIGHT 0
(1)Scoop gives a copy of the play to Student #1 (Issy)
(2)Student #1 will get this copy in the morning...

DAY 1
5 Sane Students
2 Copies of the Play
- (1) Scoop
- (2) Student #1 (Issy)

NIGHT 1
(1)Scoop gives a copy of the play to Student #2 (Lassr?)
(3)Student #2 will get this copy in the morning...
(2)Student #1 READS the play and becomes Insane Student #1 (Issy)

DAY 2
4 Sane Students
1 Insane Student
3 Copies of the Play
- (1) Scoop
- (2) Insane Student #1
- (3) Student #2

NIGHT 2*
(1)Scoop KILLS Moliere (I assume Moliere is not Student #1 or Student #2, I look at him as Student #5)
(2)Insane Student #1 (Issy) is thwarted by Thief #1(2), who makes off with Insane Student #1's copy of the play.
(3)Student #2 (Lassr?) - destroys his copy of the play

* Note: There is some ambiguity around Moliere as Thief #1, and instead Student #2 having their play stolen.

DAY 3
3 Sane Students
1 Dead Student
1 Insane Student
2 Copies of the Play
- (1) Scoop
- (2) Thief #1 (I think this was maybe Newcastle)

NIGHT 3
(1)Scoop gives a copy of the play to Student #3 (Newcastle)
(4)Student #3 will get this copy in the morning...
(2)Thief #1 is thwarted by Theif #2(2), who makes off with Thief #1's copy of the play (Originally Student #1's copy)

DAY 4
3 Sane Students
1 Dead Student
1 Insane Student
3 Copies of the Play
- (1) Scoop
- (2) Thief #2 (I think this is Punisher)
- (4) Student #3 (Newcastle)

- 1 copy removed when we searched Punisher (as Sane)

NIGHT 4
(1)Scoop murders Lassr (perhaps Student#2 above)
(4)Student #3 READS their copy of the play and become Insane Student#2 (Newcastle)
I analyze Isgrumnur and have him committed.

I think that Punisher is Thief#2 and Newcastle is Student #3.

DAY 5
1 Sane Students (Punisher)
1 Insane Student (Newcastle)
1 committed Student (Isgrimnur)
2 Dead Students (Moliere and Lassr)
2 Copies of the Play
- (1) Scoop
- (4) Newcastle

Ok. I think we need to decide.
Do we go with everyone winning except the alienist or hargrid.
I think we can have a clear plan either way if we also know where the books are.

Most players take on the role as unknown Art Students, struggling artists trying to find some inspiration in a world of mundane ugliness. These Art Students do not start the game belonging to any particular faction. Instead, it will be up to them to choose how great risks they choose to take in their quest for greatness. Each Art Student wins or loses the game individually, and not as a group. Sacrificing yourself for the good of your faction is not an option - only your own survival is important.

You said you have no book. It will be days from now before you can get one and read it.

You will be murdered most likely, before that happens. You've seen the 2 other bodies, right? You realize that Scoop is exactly 1 Student Murder away from just winning.

Scoop does not need to kill me - just kill you, tonight.

Or - tomorrow morning, you can win this with your lover.

We basically need to hear how Holman would like to go.
If you are killed tonight, you also lose the game for Holman.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Government of Scoop regrets to inform its citizens that, due to unforeseen budget constraints stemming from the popular Taco Tuesday initiative held every Tuesday, we are unable to honor the request for Moon pie Mondays.

While we understand the importance of Moon pie Mondays to our community, the financial implications of sustaining this program alongside Taco Tuesday have proven to be challenging. The government remains committed to providing essential services and maintaining fiscal responsibility.

We appreciate the understanding and patience of our citizens as we navigate these budgetary challenges. Rest assured, we will continue to explore solutions to ensure the well-being and satisfaction of our residents.

A Turning of the Tide

The ghastly deaths of Rue Lassr and Rue Moliere has not gone unnoticed. A special task force of the Paris Police has investigated the scenes and concluded that there was foul play afoot.

As a former inmate of the City Asylum, authorities soon follow the clues to the home of one Hildred Castaigne. He is brought out and interviewed, and his home is searched as a matter of course. As Mr Castaigne is about to be released, one of the officers make a startling discovery – a copy of the play is carelessly hidden under a table cloth! When asked to explain this, Hildred throws a fit. He starts screaming about tuesdays and some Iberian variation of the common sandwich – enough to conclude that he is dangerously unstable and probably released too early from state care.

Scoop20906 had 1 Copy of the Play destroyed!

Scoop20906 is Insane!

Scoop20906, Hildred Castaigne, has been Committed!

It is Night.

Players:
1. Punisher
2. Unagi
3. Moliere (Murdered Art Student)
4. Newcastle
5. Holman
6. Scoop20906 (Committed Hildred Castaigne)
7. Isgrimnur (Committed Art Student)
8. Lassr (Murdered Art Student)

Art Student without the Play: Will you Steal, Seduce or do nothing?
Sane Art Student with the Play: Will you Read or Destroy the Play?
Insane Art Student with the Play: Who will receive a new Copy of the Play?

Muse: Will you Write someone or not?
Muse with at least two Lovers: Will you drive a Lover insane or not?

Alienist: Will you Analyze someone or not?

Hildred Castaigne: Will you Copy the Play to someone, Murder someone or do nothing?
But you've seen who's in heaven
Is there anyone in hell?

Holy cow!

(Sorry I'm late to the party. I would have voted SCOOP if votes were still ongoing.)

But I missed that Hildred could be Committed at all! Looking back, I see now that he is only Sane for the Alienist's scan. I casually assumed that he was Sane for all purposes (including Lynch).

I suspect he went all in on methond acting his part because this seems insane.

Hildred Castaigne is utterly Insane, but shows as Sane for the Alienist’s scan. He’s been given a clean bill of health, after all.
Is that the same for majority vote, show as Sane?
No. Hildred's immunity only applies to the Alienist's scan. Hildred is lynchable.

Game Over!

The final Copy of the Play has been destroyed!

The winners are:

Punisher
An Impressionist portrait painter, the artist using the pseudonym “Punisher” becomes famous for his brush technique and ability to capture light on canvas. While he dies quite young due to his unhealthy opium habits, his most famous painting “Holman at the window” ends up a central part of the Louvre’s "Fin de Siecle" collection.

Unagi
Able to advance his studies of the subjects committed during the Yellow Crisis, Dr Unagi recieves international acclaim and reverence as a pioneer of divinity-based social therapy. The basis of the method is to accept Jesus as your saviour and to learn how to repress destructive urges by exposing yourself to them repeatedly in group sessions.

Holman
Happily married to the artist Punisher, they have five children and live a life of bourgeois comfort. When Punisher passes away, Holman inherits a vast estate and lives out her days in luxury, surrounded by family and friends.

I think i passed on night 1.
Mostly trying to avoid getting killed by bein insane until i understood the game at least a little better.
I was especially worried when scoop went on a killing spree for what seems no reason.

Thanks everyone for playing! I hope you had fun trying this little Beta brain-teaser of a ruleset.

The rules themselves are what I would call a "successful failure", in the sense that I learned a lot about thes kind of games and what makes them tick. I had a few hopes for this:

- That players would choose a team rather than having one assigned and finding this fun and engaging, and:
- That the experience would be more personal and less about sacrificing yourself "for the team".

Balance aside (that stuff can always be modified) I think this ruleset had a few glaring flaws:
- No common cause for the table to discuss during Day. There needs to be a central group effort that drives conversation, this I feel was lacking.
- There should be some diminishing returns to choosing a faction - eg when many players choose a certain faction, that faction should become more and more dangerous or otherwise prohibitive.
- Doing writeups for a game like this with pretentions to personal horror - while fun to author - was a LOT of work. I can only be thankful that signups were few...

Now, I have all the Night Actions for all players on file but I won't share them here unless the player in question asks me to. I don't want to "out" anyone's decision making.

That said, on a general level, I think people were way too scared of the Muse, and not at all sufficiently scared of Hildred. The absolute chaos during Nights with the Play being copied, stolen, returned with Murder (which happened twice) and actually even burned by the very Art Student who just managed to steal a copy for himself was very entertaining.
But you've seen who's in heaven

I think people were scarec of the muse because there could be only one lover. I didn't want to chance getting driven insane because everyone else piled up on the muse.
It wasntbuntil there was a clear game plan with holmon and i that i went for ot.
I know i wasn't wortied about hagrid at all at first. I still dont understand the random murders. Tgat was just shooting himself in the foot because there were less students to go insane for him.
I think he took the role way too seriously and really thought he was insane. But even then it didn't sound like hagrid was so insane as to not want to win. Very odd.
I just wanted to avoid beingva day 1 casualties.
I'm still not completely clear on everything but had fun.

Also correction.
I passed on might 0, stole from scoop on night 1, destroyed play on night 2. That whole day/night 0 thing confuses me.
It was a pretty random theft.

Finally. I dont mind yiu posting any backend stuff on my moves. They really wont matter as a reference for how i play.
