Not judging, just curious how so? I've watched a number of his and he just seems British and inquisitive, so I'm curious what I might have missed.

i watched probably 20 + videos of him, thought he was interesting, found interesting things to talk about. Never seemed to be controversial, just talked about things and how they worked. Kind of suprised he'd rub anyone the wrong way :P

I can probably name 10 YouTube personalities if I really tried. Most of those would be board game related. Of course, I probably average less than two hours of YT content a week. Most of that is actually Last Week Tonight which probably shouldn't be counted as YT content.

Maybe more than 10 if I count stuff I know from my kids watching, but I've never watched (ex: DanTDM).

In high school I took the most physically undemanding PE class I could find, which was "Lifetime Sports" aka "Nerd Gym." It was stuff like badminton, bowling, etc. But about 3 weeks into the year the PE teacher knew teaching math nerds and popular girls who didn't want to get sweaty any form of physical education was a losing proposition. So they just let us hang out and do whatever.

There was a ping pong table in the foyer of the gym with no net, but we had paddles and balls. So we came up with this bastardized version of ping pong in which one bounce on the floor was allowed, and there were no boundaries. By that I mean, players could circle the entire table - as long as the ball only hit the table once and only hit the floor once, it was in play.

This game became cutthroat. And pretty soon we had the whole class involved with tournaments and rankings and everything. And somehow...I was good at it. DAMN good. I wiped the floor with anyone who stood against me. And as a nerdy, picked on kid, that was a very big deal. I might have been a complete loser outside of that class, but when it came to that ping pong table, I was king and everybody damn well knew it.

I've been driving almost 40 years, and I've never seen a speed bump that was shaped or marked like that. I'd probably hit them too fast, too, as I wouldn't even know they were speed bumps until after the fact.

Ive never seen one like that either. People will remember theres a speed bump there or go a different route. The truck with the trailer was the best on near the beginning.

Hah, and apparently it's located in Fresno. Fresno, coincidentally, is where I drove for the first time (on East Locust, west of N. 1st), and where I drove solo the first time (from Fresno to Reno, at 13, with only three or four minutes of driving experience and no knowledge of the rules.)

But Fresno - like much of California - likes to find better ways of doing things without bothering to consider that people don't know what they hell is going on. Speedbumps, everywhere I've driven, are painted yellow.

Yeah, I get it, having people destroy their cars is certainly a lesson for them, but sooner or later, someone's going to lose control and either end up parking in someone's living room, or wrapped around a tree and dead. Making them obvious is a much better speed deterrent.

Aha! It took a while, but I found it: Google Maps link.

It is marked on the street there, but from what I've read from residents, the bumps themselves are so subtle that they're impossible to actually see - especially at night, and doubly so when it's raining. And the sign is for a 10 MPH bump in a 30 MPH zone, and is located almost on top of the bumps. Yeah, stupid drivers - but also poor urban planning that's going to get people killed.

Great sleuthing. I was curious where it was and if they had any warnings whatsoever. It doesn’t look like any changes were made, I saw another video from last month and it looks the same. Even showed a police car catching air.

That Street View shot is apparently from October, so it's up-to-date. Apparently they only started putting in the bumps in Fresno after 2021, when a 15-year ban on new speed bumps was lifted.

Brought it up in Google Earth rather than Maps. That tells me that the distance from the sign to the bump is 75 feet. Stopping distance with an average reaction time from 35 miles an hour (realistic speed in a 30 MPH zone) is 186 feet. Now, you don't need to stop, only reduce to 10MPH, and even if you double the distance (some quick digging shows me that most people can read smaller street signs at about 80 feet), you're still pushing that limit. At 150' at 35 MPH, you have three seconds to see the sign, read the sign, react to the sign, and slow down enough to safely make it over the bump.

And given their configuration, you're going to spend a couple of seconds trying to see where the bumps actually are.

And that's all assuming perfect conditions with your eyes 100% locked on the road and perfect awareness. I don't advocate for distracted driving, but 100% awareness isn't possible for humans.

The signs need to be moved back, and the bumps need clear markings.

This is our bump. When they redid the road here they installed it. The road used to do a severe dip here as the land is low and come back up. Like a roller coaster dip. We all loved to ride it. But when they redid it they raised the road up and put this in. i guess in the old days the dip slowed people.

Anyways my first or second time through I didn't see it or realize what it was until i hit it. Damn thing. I know about it now and sometimes I still catch myself hitting the brakes hard and barely getting slowed.

Ya gotta like how they put the BUMP sign right AT the bump instead of more warning beforehand.

To be fair, the bump isn't the main part of that sign. You should be slowing down to make sure there are no pedestrians crossing. And you should be able to identify that sign from a ways off. So if you aren't already in the process of slowing down well before you can read the "bump", then the fault is with you.
