iPhone data transfer question

I have a friend with an iPhone SE 2nd generation. She just bought an iPhone 11 (yeah, I know - it's outdated - not my call.) She asked me to help her transfer everything from her old phone. I'm not too worried about the process itself (I'm tech-friendly, as long as it isn't a spreadsheet.) The last time I worked with a product from that particular company, however, the word 'Macintosh' was prominent, while 'i' at the start of a name was just a capitalization error.

I found this. Is this adequate? And what is and is not transferred in this process? She's very worried about losing data.

And, other than the process above, is there anything I should be doing with it?

There’s no problem with this at all. It is totally seamless and automatic, works great. Done this at least a couple of times without a problem. It transfers everything. My only question is if it would work on a SE - but if it has the latest OS, should be fine.

Edit - just looked, it appears you have should have no problem.

Yeah, the OS is v 17.something.

Thank you. I didn't want to have her drive all the way down here, do the transfer, and find out that it had only transferred settings and contacts, but left all of her media/pictures/etc behind.

an SE is a 'real' iPhone - i have the 2nd Gen [2020] one myself.

i'm betting this friend doesn't realize that internally, the iPhone 11 is _exactly_ the same as the iPhone SE 2nd gen:

the second-generation model shares the form factor of the iPhone 8, with internal components from the iPhone 11 lineup.

they're getting a bigger screen and better camera (and almost certainly better battery life - the SE 2020 sucks in this way), but the CPU/GPU is unchanged....


(it's why i got that model - my very old iPhone 5s was on the verge of no longer being supported in the US due to the 3G network being sunset'ed, and i needed a new phone somewhat quickly. i got a secondhand SE 2020 off swappa.com for a very good price as it was a 'budget' iPhone to begin with, and with the iPhone 11 internals, it will be supported for a long while yet.)

I have no idea - I use the term 'friend' to mean casual acquaintance I see once or twice a year who is engaged to a good friend. I wasn't part of the shopping process - just asked after the fact if I could manage the transfer/setup. I actually asked the same thing when I saw that the new phone was an iPhone 11. I don't know the first thing about Apple, but I do remember seeing numbers significantly larger than that on news sites. I figured out the dates of the two phones (it took me forever to figure out that it was a 2nd generation SE) and asked, but my (first-tier) friend had no idea what was behind the decision.

My fist smart phone was 7... and still is a 7. It's about at the end of its life after I replaced battery just last year. Aps are just and always updating OS are just asking too much of what they 7 can handle. I only assume it's at its sunset now. I also will move to an SE. I was hoping for a used 10 somewhere but they're still too expensive. I like the size of the 7 better anyway, so the SE will should be fine for me. I'll need a new OtterBox after all these years and I like the cases better for the SE than for other models as well.
