CNN will host the first debate between President Biden and former president Trump on June 27 at 9 p.m. ET, per CNN’s press room. The event will take place in CNN’s Atlanta studios, as Georgia is a critical battleground state.

(The second presidential debate will be hosted by ABC and is scheduled to take place on September 10.)
It's almost as if people are the problem.

If the debate happens, I think we know the Biden strategy. Provoke Trump at every opportunity to get him to act as deranged and rude as possible. They really want people to remember who Trump really is, and a repeat of the 2020 (second?) debate would be golden. That's the one where Trump essentially shouted and interrupted the entire time, to the point Biden couldn't get a word in edgewise. It did not play well at all for Trump with audiences.

I watched a comedian skit video about buying from Amazon a gaming chair. 10 seconds after finishing, youtube fed me a gaming chair ad. I am not in the market for one, nor have I searched for one, nor have I seen any ads about them recently.

Just waiting for Google to tell me I'm pregnant.

Back to your R&P.

Do we know if the moderators will be able to cut the candidates' mics? I know the idea was being kicked around but not how it turned out. Hard to imagine trump cooperating unless he has free rein to rant.

I wouldn't be so sure. Maybe not demented, but there's a lot to worry about Biden in an uncontrolled setting.

I certainly hope so. Trump is easy to manipulate. His sore spots are well known, and he can't control himself when they're targeted. Just spend the first third of the debate pushing him, then, when he starts to foam at the mouth, bring up real issues that Trump has avoided. Bring up issues that Trump doesn't understand. Bring up issues that are controversial among his base, or that they consider important, but people paying attention know that Trump isn't actually with them on. Get him to babble, get him to blunder. Let his ego and his dementia do the rest.

He has a lifelong speech impediment that makes him occasionally slur words, and he's always been famous for verbal gaffes. He occasionally mixes up names of people and places (as do I). People looking for senior moments will find them. But that's peanuts compared to his opponent. Biden is coherent and in command of the facts and issues. Trump only has lies and grievances, and he rambles and rants. I think the contrast will be clear.

tRump will talk about himself and how great he is and all the things he says he has done that he hasn't for the entire debate.

And probably sharks and electric boats. Seems to be his new thing.

Absolutely. He is obviously, visibly MUCH slower and befuddled , compared to not even a much younger Biden. We could pass off a lot of his overtly aged behavior to his speech impediment a few years ago, but now it's obvious that it's simply that he is REALLY old at least moderately senile. There's just no way around it, people, sorry.

If your concern about a candidate is their age, then in my mind you should be basing your vote on who their cabinet/advisors are going to be while they're declining into dementia, and who will be running the country should they ultimately kick the bucket (VP).

We know both of these things for both candidates, and in Trump's case the answer to both questions is MAGA loyalists who will continue his authoritarian rule, his corruption, his policies designed to hurt the disenfranchised, election deniers, etc. They are people who will not go against Trump even if he's completely off his rocker.

By contrast, I could definitely see Biden as the type of person who - if faced with a diagnosis of dementia or otherwise felt he could not effectively do his job - would step down for the good of the country.

Clearly Biden is the only choice of three very aged candidates. There is no choice for a responsible person. The other two are only viable if you think the election is a reality tv show

Yeah, sorry, that was my point. I also wanted to mention that the video was a comedy sketch with the words gaming chair in it, repeatedly. There is no text in the description mentioning chairs. I also have google assistant off. Google is listening anyway. I think that was really my overall point.

I think that type of person would have chosen not to run this time. I've read a few things about how he really wanted this, was pissed at Obama because he was very cold on endorsing him, etc. And I don't fault him for that at all, I just don't get that ANY of these guys are "I will step down for the good of the country" - see SO many recent examples. I suspect all pols at this level have pretty big egos, even the ones that come across as not having them, Uncle Joe included. Again, not faulting for that, it's probably a necessary component of even winning an election at the higher levels...but let's not kid ourselves. Notorious RBG for one, and of course maybe the worst recent example, Feinstein.

I can watch him speak, and compare it to how he spoke previously, forgetting names, massive, awkward pauses, complete confusion in some cases, using the wrong names, or names of dead people, etc etc. So many examples. And again, this is RELATIVE to a not much younger Joe, so it's not the stutter. These are very typical symptoms of old age. It's not some mystery that only a geriatrician can solve...unless you've never been around, watched, seen or heard any old people I guess.

Be that as it may, it would just mean that we're voting for 'starting to slip' over 'slid all the way down the mountain.' I'd certainly be much happier with someone younger, but it's not on list of options.

You said he was "at least moderately senile". That's simply a diagnosis you cannot make. Especially based solely on TV appearances you've watched.

I have no problem with saying he seems slower to you than he was when he was younger (which your reply seemed to pivot to...and which is natural), but "moderately senile" is a pretty serious charge.

I'd be curious to know if you listened to the hour long interview Howard Stern did with Biden last month? I know it was a softball interview, but Biden certainly did not come across as slipping at all. In fact he moved from subject to subject and story to story without much hesitation. It's easy to watch 30 second clips of politicians that are taken out of context to draw a conclusion. But it's kind of hard to mask it in an hour long interview.
